MEASURING
SPEEDS SHOULDER GRINDING
This instant measuring device in connection with shoulder grinding has proved very
successful, and is extremely popular with operators. It visibly shows them, without
fail, exactly how far the wheel is moved when grinding a shoulder.
Essentially the mechanism consists of a bell crank, one end of which bears against
a shoulder on the wheel spindle, and the other against the indicator point. Thus the
amount the wheel is moved against the shoulder of the piece registers on the indi
cator. The small lever at the right of the indicator disengages the bell crank
spindle when not in use.
It is readily seen that this method is a guide for accuracy and a great reducer of
spoiled work. Large motor plants in particular have been attracted by this device as
it has speeded shoulder grinding operations.
