You grind concentric cylindrical parts at exceptionally low cost with this ma chine because you grind with unvarying output — and you grind at the highest rate at which the job can be done.
The consistently fast automatic operation of the Type CTU Full Automatic completely eliminates the requirement of experience and skill on the operator. The quality and quantity of work produced that ordinarily depend on operator skill and dexterity are obtained in and automatically, and may mean you require fewer machines.
You set the automatic grinding cycle to function in the shortest time feasible for the stock removal and finish requirements involved and this cycle rate is
repeated for each piece.

You can set the automatic wheel truing device for the desired diamond feed which is repeated at each truing. By means of a special arrangement, at extra
cost, the truing device is made to function automatically at regular selected intervals. Automatic compensation for the amount of wheel reduction is also available as an extra. With these arrangements, the machine becomes com

strength engineered into machine components gives you continued precision under heavy loads, minimizes maintenance requirements, and prolongs the exceptional investment value you receive from the machine.

Automatic Loaders aid output • •
The type of work loading device supplied with the Type CTU Full Automatic depends on the physical character of the work to be ground.
For wrist pins, bushings, valve guides and similar parts where both ends of the work are alike, a Chute Type loader is furnished.
With the Chute Type, hydraulically operated fingers at the base
of the chute pick off each piece the work centers. Simultaneously the previously ground piece is removed and dropped down the return chute and into the finished work receptacle.
Irregular non-symetrical parts however, might tend to wedge and pile up in a Chute Type loader
available for this type of work. Here the piece is

the grinding is performed on one piece the centers are withdrawn
and the chain brings are carried along in the chain to an automatic unloading device which removes the pieces from the spring clips and they drop into the finished work receptacle.

Both types of loaders promote maximum output by the automatic regularity with which they load and unload, the timing being interlocked with the automatic grinding cycle so that the whole operation works smoothly and efficiently.

Selected Headstocks
The type of headstock supplied is determined by the nature of the work to be ground. The head- stock furnished may be of the dead center type
(with corresponding footstock with automatic closing feature); it may be a live center type with without footstock, or two synchronized headstocks with live centers may be supplied.

Sturdy Tables
Sturdy sliding and swivel tables assist the grinding action. The swivel table provides for grinding taper work and permits correction of taper in grinding work straight. The sliding table may be positioned by the hand table drive mechanism for setup or adjustment.
Easy-Fast Wheel Feed Setting
Settings for both the rate and amount of the auto
matic feed are easily made from the front of the machine. A "click-count” permits instant correction of the amount of feed by rotating a knob. The rate of wheel feed also is changed instantly by the mere rotation of a knob.

The wheel spindle unit is of major'importance to the enduring precision and fast action you get from
the machine. It is rugged for heavy stock removal — yet precise for close tolerances and fine finishes. Over 50% of the spindle body is enclosed in two long, hard bronze bearings of super-duty size.
This construction gives extreme resistance to de
flection by wheel pressure and to o^her conditions
that reduce efficiency. The spindle, specially
toughened to improve wear qualities, remains on
its fixed center line; no shifting is possible.
The performance of the spindle unit is further in
creased by three important factors: flood Jubrica-
tion which is automatic, filtered and seif-contained
within the wheelslide, minute oil clearances, and
modern precision boring of the spindle bearings.

Speedy-Precise
Automatic Grinding Cycle
In the automatic grinding cycle, the grinding wheel is rapidly brought toward the work — and is rapidly withdrawn from the work on completion
of
the grind — by hydraulic cylinder. In this rapid movement, the large diameter feed screw, the feed screw nut, and the wheel slide are moved as an integral unit with no relative motion between these elements — and no wear.
Automatic grinding feed occurs upon .cushioned completion of the rapid advance of the grinding
wheel. The grinding feed is accomplished by automatic rotation of the large diameter feed screw in its nut by hydraulic means. This rotating feed screw type of automatic grinding feed., produces
an extremely fine and enduring repetitive accuracy
because of metal-io-mctal contact of feed screw and
nut which are mated and lapped together in manu facture.

Truing Device
Aids Production — reduces wheel cost
This device aids production by eliminating the requirement of skill and time normally required in truing. It is also widely flexible in
that it is
adjustable for coarse or fine truing and provides a minimum increment ofdiamond feed of. By providing the means for a close, uniform control of the amount of
abrasive removed from the wheel face, it reduces

wheel cost per piece ground.
The diamond in the device automatically makes a round trip at a predetermined speed and feed across the face of the grinding wheel. The diamond cuts both passes, is auto matically fed for each pass, and comes to rest ready for the

Actual capacity is largely dependent on the work to be ground. Detail prints of the work must be studied by
our Engineers. On this study is based the decision of the suitability of the machine for the job.
