Simplified operation, plus rapid, enduringly accurate
action give you benefits of more
when you grind with these machines. You profit in your
production from efficient controls located accessibly in
the operating position because they
operator fatigue. All adjustments for feeds and speeds
are made on the front of the machine - it is unnecessary
for your operator to leave his normal position to make
changes
You grind rapidly and economically with these machines
because they have particularly durable and precisely
functioning " micrometric-type" wheel feed mechanism.
They also give you a heavy wheel spindle unit which has
long, full-round bearings and is exceptionally resistant
to grinding pressures,
not only accuracy with fast 11 spark-out
to perform roughing cuts or the finest finishing operations
at will.

FAST GRINDING ACTION
5
You get economical, fast action from these machines because they give
you a heavy base and wheelslide which absorb grinding stresses - plus
large way areas which assure low unit pressure and prolonged precision
in movement of sliding components. An enduringly accurate wheel feed
mechanism and wheel spindle unit contribute importantly to giving you
highest speed and quality of grind, along with the advantages that follow.
Micrometric-type rotating-screw wheel feed mechanism sustains
sizing accuracy - a large diameter feed screw revolves in a long
half-nut, affording precise metal-to-metal contact
. Heavy-duty wheel spindle unit permits you to perform fast roughing
cuts - or finest finishing operations - without readjustment of bearings
Large
way areas are hand scraped, for sustained accuracy of sliding
components
Ways provide precise bearing and have superior lubricant retention
properties due to the creation of minute oil pockets in the scraping
operation
. Sliding and swivel tables are proportioned to assure straight work -
and heavy tables dampen vibration and give you rigidity for fast
cutting
. " Across-the-table" clamping of the heavy headstock and footstock
promotes enduring accuracy in work support by maintaining alignment
of these units
, A rack and pinion arrangement easily moves the headstock and foot-
stock to any desired position along the table
. Slanted swivel table provides an ideal clamping surface for table
equipment - a stronger cross-section of table - and the best drainage
for coolant
All controls for feeds and speeds are set
from the operating position

WHEEL FEED MECHANISM
6
The wheel feed mechanism is designed to give you rapid precision
enduringly. In this mechanism the most efficient hydraulic and
mechanical features are combined to produce fast, accurate sizing.
. Automatic feed at table reversals with plain machines - or
automatic in-feed with semiautomatics - is accomplished by
revolving the feed screw hydraulically. You obtain a
micrometer-fine accuracy from the metal-to-metal contact
afforded by this method
. Automatic feed is quickly adjustable over a wide range - and you
have automatic reset of the wheel
. Settings for the amount of automatic feed are quickly made through
movement of the hand wheel - your operator does this from his
normal position - he does not leave the front of the machine,
is an important time-saver
Graduations on the wheel feed hand wheel make wheel feed settings
easier - and give your operator continual indication of the amount
of infeed as the wheel rotates past a fixed pointer
This
A "click-count" indexing mechanism on the wheel feed hand wheel
permits settings to increments as fine as . 00005" (. 0001" on work
diameter) to be made instantly, without visual attention
. The feed wheel is at your operator's hand - no reaching is required

WHEEL SPINDLE UNIT
7
You get finest finish - closest accuracy - and you make the heaviest
roughing cuts at will - because of these features:
Over 50% of the spindle body is enclosed in two super-duty size,
hard bronze bearings to provide extreme service capacity
Spindle is ruggedly proportioned and is specially toughened to give
you superior wearing qualities
Spindle is rigidly supported over practically its entire circumference
for maximum resistance to wheel pressures
Bearing length is over twice the diameter to give you long, trouble-
free service
Extremely low unit pressure due to long and continuous bearing
surfaces enables you to do fast cutting with enduring accuracy
The bearings are automatically flooded by filtered lubricant - and
lubricant flow control valves are conveniently mounted over the
spindle housing
Automatic lubricant flow is continually visible through bull's eyes -
an important safety feature
Heavy duty flood lubricated end thrust bearing at the center of spindle
assures
fine lateral stability

EASIEST MAINTENANCE
8
You have easiest maintenence
- and lowest maintenance costs - with the
—
14" Type C-2 and 18" Type LC-2 Grinders because of the accessible position
ing of equipment requiring occasional attention. For example, these featur
save you time and money:
. All pumps and motors are mounted on the outside of the machine
in areas
that are easily reached and are convenient for maintenance
activities
. Electrical controls are grouped in an elevated enclosure for protection -
and for ease of inspection
. F ilters for hydraulic system and for ways lubricating system are
mounted outside to permit quick servicing
. Pressure relief valves are placed in easily reached outside positions
. Ways lubricant flow control valves are
mounted outside of base for
instant accesses
. Hinged wheel guard cover appreciably quickens wheel change by
eliminating cover lifting
Large sight-glasses on oil reservoirs give continual indication of
oil level - and outside-mounted reservoirs for ways and wheel spindle
lubricants ease and speed filling or clean-out
Ramped coolant tank outlet speeds tank clean-out
Steel
tape-type base way guards provide fine protection for table
ways and require no additional floor space
