to the point where an operator can easily tend more than one machine.
straight-face cams at high rate. The standard arrangement of the
machine equips you to grind straight faces on your cams —
in one direction. Beyond this, you may have the machine arranged
!
to grind two-way tapers, at extra cost. With both the standard
and optional arrangements you grind straight-face cams by simply
locking-out the taper arrangement.
Better Finish ...
More Production
You improve cam contour — get better finish — and you increase
camshafts in this machine.
In addition, the No. 3 also equips you to grind tapered as well as
or tapers
You get notable improvement in cam contour and finish through
aid of an all-timing-belt work drive which produces a positive, smooth
work rotation by eliminating slippage. This feature provides the
extra benefit of delivering more power than previous designs. Auto

WHEEL SPINDLE UNIT
N-6944
Over 50% of spindle body enclosed in two super-duty size, hard bronze bearings
to give you maximum service.
The Norton spindle stays on its fixed center-line — no shifting is possible.
Ruggedly proportioned spindle is specially toughened for wear resistance and
is rigidly supported over practically
action.
Bearing length more than twice the diameter — to give extreme resistance to
wheel pressures.
Bearings automatically
Heavy-duty, flood-lubricated end thrust bearing at center of spindle gives
extreme lateral stability.
Self-contained lubricating unit within wheel spindle housing automatically delivers
film of filtered lubricant between spindle and bearings.
Automatic lubricant flow clearly visible through bull’s eyes — an important
safety feature.
Extremely low unit pressure due to long and continuous bearing surfaces gives
you long service under heavy production loads.
Wheel speed changes possible without readjustment of bearings.
An unmatched service record.

STRAIGHT

or
TAPERED
CAMS
as You Desire
The standard No. 3 CAM-O-MATIC Cam Grinder equips you to
grind straight-faces or tapers on cams in one direction. The taper
range is zero to thirty minutes.
When one-way tapers are to be ground, the wheel slide is set at
the required angle by adjustments on the rear of the machine. The
slide is trued in its angular grinding position by the automatic truing
device. No special positioning of the slide is required.
TWO-WAY TAPER ARRANGEMENT
This arrangement is available at extra cost. It automatically
swivels the wheel slide to the required setting right and left of the
straight position to grind each cam taper in the direction desired. The
taper range in both directions is zero to thirty minutes.
The swiveling action is initiated by
the machine. Angular settings of the wheel slide are controlled by
adjustable stops on the redr base.

CHANGE TO STRAIGHT FACE CAMS
Whether the machine is set up to grind taper-face cams in one or
both directions, the changeover to grind straight-face cams is accom
plished by adjusting the swivel stop dogs and locking the slide in the
conventional position.
