including those sections wherein curvature, a radius or radii
are involved. This unique capacity, plus the extreme rigidity
of the machine, its spindle reciprocating feature and manner
of tool support, result in a superior low cost long-life tool
and increased production.

In grinding profile and relief, an original or master

Wheel Spindle
Design Details
The cartride type wheel spindle unit is arranged to
give a fixed oscillation of l/2
,r to the wheel in a lateral plane.
This greatly simplifies operating effort because the operator
merely has to hold the work holder in contact with the wheel.
He is spared the laborious task of moving the tool holder back
and forth across the wheel face.
oscillation
makes for better wheel life and gives better finish
This feature of wheel
to the tool.
Universal Tool Holder
The Universal Tool Holder can be tilted and rolled for
clearance and rake angles.
Because of this, it is possible to
attain the cylindrical type of grind rather than the conventional
conical grind, when the table is flat.
A Master Tool Protractor Attachment (an optional extra)
can be supplied which adapts the tool holder for grinding cutting
edge angle on model tools.
Grinding Model Tools
The NORTON No. 2 BURA-WAY Grinder makes possible the
grinding of a model tool.
With the Master Tool Protractor
Attachment and gage attachments which may be supplied as extras,
it is possible to make a model tool from a bar of plastic material
or soft steel.
the "Model Tool Process Chart
The various steps in this process are outlined in
” on the following page.
Templates
Once the model tool is made, a template is ground from
the model tool.
Thereafter, regular production tools can be
ground from the template and the shape or location of the tool is
always assured from one grind to another with absolute duplication
through an accurate mechanical means.
This is an exceedingly important feature, especially for
automatic machines using multiple tool set-ups.
to have such tools sharpened in the NORTON No. 2 BURA-WAY Grinder
It is possible
and then set back in the automatic machine quickly from a reference
point without going through the process of indicating each and
every tool.

Templates
(continued)
The template material is of a plastic substance and is
very easy to grind in making shapes to suit a model tool*
Templates are easily marked for the tilt
and roll settings of the
universal tool holder as well as the tool number, so that set-ups
can be duplicated quickly each and every time that particular type
of tool is to be ground©
Table Tilting Mechanism
While most tools ground in this machine will not require
the table to be tilted, this mechanism is available at extra cost,
if desired© It will be found useful for tools such as parting
tools which require relief
table for this job gives the proper relief
on
each side, 180° apart. Tilting the-;
angles on both sides.
This mechanism provides a Vernier Scale at the front of the
machine which indicates the angle of table setting within
one
minute of arc©
