The Norton 10" Type CTU Semiautomatic, made in 18",
36" and 48" work length capacities, assists achievement
of high output in production grinding. It performs certain
of
the feeding and control functions automatically, thereby
relieving the operator of these tasks and permits him to
devote much of his attention to loading and unloading.
Under some conditions it may permit him to tend two
machines.

AUTOMATIC GRINDING CYCLE
includes rapid advance of the grinding wheel, cushioning, the
actual grinding feed, dwell for size and finish, and rapid with
drawal of the wheel to the original
This is governed by an electric timer set for the particular time period necessary to obtain accuracy of size and desired finish.
AUTOMATIC RAPID ADVANCE AND WITHDRAWAL
of grinding wheel is accomplished by a large piston moving in a
hydraulic cylinder. The feed screw, the half-nut, and the wheel
slide are moved as an integral unit with no relative motion be
tween these elements.

features
AUTOMATIC GRINDING PEED
At the approach of the end of the rapid advance, the forward
motion is cushioned. It is at this point that the actual grinding
feed is accomplished, by rotating the large diameter feed screw
in its long half-nut (virtually a large micrometer). This gives a
highly precise metal-to-metal contact type of feed. The feed screw
is mounted in anti-friction bearings. The half-nut in which it revolves
is bolted to the under side of the wheel slide body. Feed screw and
half-nut are lapped together and mated.

In addition
NORTONIZER Automatic Work Sizing Device, standard Grinding Gages, and
Electric Sizing Gages available as extras. Also available as extras are a Wheel
Feed Accelerator for speeding production under conditions of work size variance,
and a Shoulder Feed
