The AUTOMATIC GRINDING CYCLE includes rapid
forward movement of the grinding wheel, a momentary
deceleration, an adjustable grinding feed, dwell for size
and finish, and rapid retraction of the wheel — all with

out effort on the part of the operator.
The automatic cycle is governed by an electric timer pre
set for the particular time period necessary to produce the
accuracy of size and the finish desired.
RAPID FORWARD MOVEMENT AND WITHDRAWAL
of the grinding wheel occurs automatically through action
of a large piston moving in a hydraulic cylinder. The
amount of this rapid movement is adjustable both as to
length and rate.

In rapid movement, the feed screw, half-nut, and the
wheel slide are moved as an integral unit with no relative
motion between these elements — and no wear.
AUTOMATIC GRINDING FEED occurs after the instan
taneous cushioning of the rapid advance of the grinding
wheel. The grinding feed is accomplished through auto
matic rotation of the large diameter feed screw in its half
nut by hydraulic means.
This rotating feed screw type of automatic grinding
feed results in extremely fine repetitive accuracy because
of metal-to-metal contact of screw and half-nut which are
lapped together and mated in process of manufacture. The
automatic grinding feed is also adjustable both as to length
and rate.
