Annex Manager R3.0 Release Notes
nnex Manager is an SNMP- based management application that uses
A
the X Windows/Motif graphical user interface. Annex Manager is
specifically designed to mana ge Bay Networks Remote Access Serv ers,
and is not intended as a general purpos e network manager . While Annex
Manager can detect SNMP de vices that are not Annexes, you can not use
it to configure a non-Annex device. Annex Manager R3.0 runs on a
workstation platform running BSD Unix (SUN Sparc, HP , RS/6000). The
user interface is b uilt to the X Windo ws/Motif standard. Annex Manager
is designed to run stand-alone and contains all the necessary SNMP
protocol routines and X W indows/Motif binary l ibraries. The installation
process copies the appropriate binar y e x ecutable and al l associat ed help
and data files from the distribution media onto the workstation's disk
store. Annex Manager can be loosely coupled with several standard
network management products such as SunNet Manager , HP/Open vie w ,
or Netview for IBM AIX. Anne x Manager does not use the API interface s
provided by those products.
Why Use Annex Manager?
Annex Manager allo ws a system a dministrator to monit or and conf igure
Annexes in a network. Anne x Manager is a host based, window oriented,
configuration and management application. The displays and user
interface conform to the X Windows/Motif standard. Annex Manager
works best with a color monitor directly attached to a workstation or a
color X Windows terminal connected to a networked UNIX host. In
addition, it supports a grey-scale X Windows terminal attached to a
workstation.
Annex Manager's conf iguration t ool is easy to learn and use . It supports
the functionality of the older host-based NA configuration tool in an easier
to use format. Annex Manager is specifically designed to conf igur e and
manage Annex products. Its features depend on the proprietary MIB
defined for the Annex and on th e various standard MIBs supported b y the
Annex. Therefore, Annex Manager cannot manage other SNMP
