2 To contour the hairline around the ears,
comb the hair ends over the ears.
3 Press the ON/OFF Button to turn on the
appliance.
4 Tilt the Clipper in such a way that only one
edge of the cuttiing element touches the hair
ends. Be careful not to trim too much. The
hairline should be close to the ear (Fig. 13).
5 To contour the neckline and the sideburns,
turn the Clipper and make downward
strokes (Fig. 14).
NOTE: Move the Clipper slowly and smoothly.
Simply follow the natural hairline.
6 Adjust the position of the rotating head to
make contouring easier.
Shaving
TIP: Shaving is easier when the hairs are shorter
than 1mm. If the hairs are longer than 1mm, use
the cutting element without the comb to pre-cut
hairs to the shortest setting.
1 Turn off Clipper.
2 Pull the comb off the rotating head (Fig. 12).
3 Press the release buttons (1) and remove
the cutting unit from the handle (2) (Fig. 15).
4 Attach the shaving head by pressing it onto
the appliance. You will hear a ‘click’ (Fig. 16).
Make sure that the shaving head locks into
position properly.
5 Remove the protection cap from the shaving
head (Fig. 17).
If the shaving head foil shows signs of wear or
damage, do not use as injury may occur. Do not
use the shaving head until foil has been replaced.
6 Adjust the position of the rotating head to
make shaving easier. You can do this before
and/or during use (Fig. 18).
7 Place the shaving head on your scalp and
start shaving (Fig. 19).
NOTE: Make sure that the shaving foil is always in
full contact with your scalp.
Cleaning
w Clean the Clipper after each use.
w Always switch Clipper OFF, unplug and remove
power supply cord from Clipper before
cleaning.
w Do not use compressed air, abrasive cleaning
agents, scourers or aggressive liquids such as
gasoline, acetone or ethereal oils to clean
the Clipper and attachments.
w Never clean, replace or remove Clipper
attachments with motor ON.
w Do not apply pressure to shaving head. Do not
touch foil with hard objects as this may dent
or damage foil or cutters. If damage occurs,
replace damaged parts.
w Do not use Clipper if foil, cutter or cutting
element are damaged or broken as injury may
occur.
w Use a soft, dry cloth to clean Clipper handle.
During Use:
w If cut hairs have accumulated in the comb
area, remove hairs by shaking, blowing or using
cleaning brush provided.
Cleaning the Cutting Element and
Combs After Each Use:
1 Make sure the Clipper is switched OFF
and disconnected from the electrical outlet.
2 Remove any comb attachment (Fig. 12).
3 Blow and/or shake out any hair that may
have accumulated in the comb.
4 Rinse the comb under the tap or clean it
with the cleaning brush supplied.
5 Apply pressure to the center of the cutting
element with your thumb (1) until it releases
from the rotating head (2) (Fig. 20) .
Be careful that the cutting element does not fall to
the floor.
6 Clean the cutting element under the tap
or with the brush supplied (Fig. 21).
Make sure the cutting element is thoroughly dry
before reattaching to Clipper.
7 Clean the inside of the rotating head under the
tap or with the brush supplied (Fig. 22).
8 Clean the handle and the adapter with the
cleaning brush supplied or with a dry cloth.
9 Insert the notch of the cutting element into
the slot on the rotating head and push until
the cutting element ‘clicks’ into place (Fig. 23).

To Charge/Recharge
w Fully charge Clipper before using for the first
time or after non-use for a long period of time.
w Charging, recharging, or using Clipper at
temperatures below 40˚F or higher than 95˚F
adversely affects lifespan of the battery.
w If the appliance is subjected to a major change
in temperature, pressure or humidity, let the
clipper acclimatize for 30 minutes before using.
w Do not charge/recharge or use Clipper corded
until fully dried.
1 Be certain Clipper is OFF.
2 Insert the appliance plug directly into
the Clipper and plug the adapter into any
120V AC outlet (Fig. 1). Use only the cord
provided.
3 The Battery Light on the appliance will
blink white to indicate the Clipper is
charging (Fig. 2).
w It will take approximately 1 hour to fully
charge the Clipper for a cordless clipping
time of up to 60 minutes.
4 After the Clipper is fully charged, the
battery light will light up continuously.
NOTE: After 30 minutes the battery light goes
out.
5 Disconnect the cord and unplug from
electrical outlet.
Corded Hair Clipping
w Only use the Clipper corded when the battery
is empty.
w Clipper does not recharge during corded
clipping.
1 Connect cord provided to Clipper (Fig. 1)
and plug Clipper into electrical outlet.
2 If battery is completely empty, wait a few
minutes before turning Clipper ON.
3 Press ON/OFF button ON to begin clipping.
4 Turn Clipper OFF and unplug.
Cordless Hair Clipping
1 Charge according to directions. Unplug
Clipper from outlet and remove cord.
2 Press ON/OFF button ON to begin clipping.
3 If the charge runs low while clipping, the
Battery Light will blink orange.
4 If the charge runs out while clipping, simply
connect cord provided to Clipper and outlet
to continue clipping.
Hair Clipping
w Use this Clipper for its intended household
use as described in this manual.
w If you are clipping someone else's hair, make
sure that the head of the person is at the same
level as your chest so that all parts of his/her
head are clearly visible and within easy reach.
w Only use the appliance on clean, dry hair.
w Do not use on freshly washed hair.
w Before you begin, comb the hair in the direction
of growth (Fig. 3).
w To achieve optimal clipping results, always move
the appliance slowly through the hair against
the direction of hair growth.
Clipping with comb attachment
1 Be certain the Clipper is in the OFF position.
2 Select the comb attachment depending on
the desired hair length. The table shows
the remaining hair length after clipping at the
different settings of the precision or regular
comb.
The remaining hair length is also indicated on each
comb (Fig. 4):
– Precision comb: 1-3mm (3/64 – 1/8 in.)
– Regular comb: 3-15mm (1/8 – 5/8 in.)
Cleaning the Shaving Head
1 Turn off the Clipper and disconnect from the
electrical outlet.
2 Press the release buttons on the shaving head
and remove the shaving foil from the shaving
head (Fig. 24).
3 Rinse the shaving head and shaving foil under
the tap (Fig. 25).
NOTE: To clean the shaving head with the cleaning
brush, brush the inside and outside of the shaving
head and the outside of the shaving foil. To remove
cut hairs from the inside of the shaving foil, tap the
bottom of the shaving foil gently on a flat surface.
4 Press the shaving foil back into the shaving
head (Fig. 26).
Replacing the Shaving Foil Head
w If the shaving foil and cutters are worn or
damaged, do not continue using the Clipper.
Replace the shaving foil and cutters immediately.
w It is recommended that you replace your
shaving foil and cutters once a year.
w A worn or damaged shaving foil or cutters
should only be replaced with an original Philips
Norelco shaving foil, model QC5500, which is
available on the Philips Norelco website,
www.philips.com/support or call
1-800-243-3050 for assistance.
w The foil is a precision part. Handle with care.
1 Turn off the Clipper and disconnect it
from the electrical outlet.
2 Press the release buttons on the shaving head
and remove the shaving foil from the shaving
head (Fig. 24).
3 Remove the retaining frame from the old
shaving foil (Fig. 27).
4 Place the retaining frame on the new shaving
foil (Fig. 28).
5 Remove the old shaving cutters (Fig. 29).
6 Place the new cutters on the shaving head.
You will hear a ‘click’ (Fig. 30).
7 Press the shaving foil back into the shaving
head (Fig. 26).

Battery Removal
w This Philips Norelco Clipper contains a
rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery which must
be disposed of properly (Fig. 31).
w Battery may only be removed when Clipper is
to be discarded.

1 Unplug electrical cord from outlet and
Clipper before dismantling Clipper.
2 Allow Clipper to run until the battery is
empty/depleted.
3 Turn Clipper OFF.
4 Remove any comb attachment.
5 Remove the upper housing part of the
Clipper (Fig. 32).
6 Use a screwdriver to open the inner body
of the Clipper.
7 Use a screwdriver to remove the battery
from the Clipper (Fig. 33).
3 Slide the selected comb into the guiding
grooves on both sides of the Clipper rotating
head and push until you hear it ‘click’ into
place (Fig. 5).
Make sure the comb attachment locks properly
into position.
4 Turn the Hair Length Setting Adjustment Ring
to set the comb to the desired setting (Fig.
6). See Table 1 for settings.
Do not turn the length setting adjustment ring
beyond the highest hair length setting.
5 The arrowhead on the Clipper indicates
which setting has been selected.
When you are clipping for the first time, start
at the maximum clipping length setting (#5) of
the regular comb to familiarize yourself with
the appliance and prevent accidentally trimming
hairs too short. As you become familiar with the
settings, adjust the Hair Length Selector to desired
trimming length.
TIP: Use different settings to create a natural and
smooth transition between various hair lengths from
your neckline to the top of your head (Fig. 7).
Using the rotating head
w At the starting clipping position of 0˚ (pointing
forward), turn the rotating head 45˚ or 90˚ to
the left or right to adjust the position of the
cutting element to the part of your head you
are clipping (Fig. 8).
1 Turn the rotating head left or right to the
desired clipping position. At each position you
will hear a ‘click’ (Fig. 9).
Always adjust the position of the cutting element
by turning the rotating head. Do not turn the
cutting element or the comb attachment.
2 The rotating head allows you to hold and use
the Clipper like a styling comb (Fig. 10).
Do not turn the rotating head more than 90° to
the left or right.
3 Press the ON/OFF button to turn on the
appliance.
4 Make sure that the flat part of the comb is
always in full contact with the scalp to obtain
an even result.
5 Since all hairs do not grow in the same
direction, move the Clipper slowly over the
crown from different directions (i.e. upwards,
downwards and across) to achieve an even
result (Fig. 11).
6 Always move the Clipper slowly against the
direction of hair growth.
7 Make overlapping passes over the head to
ensure that all hair that should be cut has
been cut.
8 As you clip different areas of your head,
adjust the position of the swivel head so
that the rotating head position is most
comfortable for you.
9 For best results with curly, sparse or long
hair, use a styling comb to guide the hair
towards the Clipper.
10 Turn the Clipper off regularly during clipping
and remove the hair comb to blow and/or
shake out hair that has accumulated.
When you remove the comb, the selected setting
does not change.
TIP: Write down the settings you have used to create
a certain hairstyle as a reminder for future clipping
sessions.
Contouring without a comb
attachment
w Use the Clipper without a comb attachment to
clip very close to the skin (1/32 in/0.5mm).
w Be careful when you are clipping without a
comb as when the Clipper is turned on it will
remove every hair it touches.
1 Remove the comb by pulling it off the swivel
head (Fig. 12).
Never pull at the flexible top of the comb. Always
pull at the bottom part.

Modelado sin peine accesorio
w Utilice la cortadora sin el peine accesorio para
realizar cortes bien al ras (0.5mm - 1/32 pulg).
w Tenga cuidado cuando utilice la unidad sin un
peine porque la cortadora cortará todo el

1 Tire del peine del cabezal giratorio para

se necesita tiempo para acostumbrarse a esta
cortadora Philips Norelco. Si es la primera vez
que utiliza una cortadora eléctrica o si ha utilizado
una cortadora de otra marca, tómese el tiempo
necesario para acostumbrarse con el producto.
Su cortadora de cabello ofrece un cabezal de
afeitado giratorio de 180° que le permite recortar
fácilmente hasta las zonas más difíciles de alcanzar.
Olvídese de las tijeras y pruebe la nueva cortadora
de cabello. Le aseguramos resultados precisos y
profesionales. De lo contrario, le devolveremos
su dinero dentro de los 45 días posteriores a la
compra.
Carga y recarga
w Cargue totalmente la cortadora si va a usarla
por primera vez o si no la ha utilizado durante
un período prolongado.
w La carga, la recarga o el uso de la cortadora a
temperaturas inferiores a 4,5 °C o superiores a
35 ˚C disminuye la vida útil de la batería.
w Si la unidad queda expuesta a un cambio
drástico de temperatura, presión o humedad,
espere 30 minutos antes de utilizarla.
w Solo cargue, recargue o utilice la cortadora con
el cable si está completamente seca.
1 Verifique que la cortadora esté apagada.
2 Introduzca el conector de la unidad
directamente en la cortadora y conecte el
adaptador en cualquier toma de 120 V de CA
(Fig. 1). Utilice solo el cable suministrado.
3 La luz de batería de la unidad parpadeará en
blanco para indicar que la cortadora se está
cargando (Fig. 2).
w La cortadora tarda aproximadamente 1 hora en
cargarse por completo y ofrece un tiempo de
uso sin cable de 60 minutos.
4 Una vez que la unidad esté completamente
cargada, la luz quedará encendida de forma
continua.
NOTA: Después de 30 minutos, la luz de baterÍa
se apagará.
5 Desconecte el cable y desenchúfelo del
tomacorriente.
Cortadora con cable
w Solo utilice la cortadora con el cable cuando la
batería esté descargada.
w La cortadora no se recarga cuando se usa
enchufada.
1 Conecte el cable suministrado en la
cortadora (Fig. 1) y enchufe la unidad en el
tomacorriente.
2 Si la batería está completamente descargada,
espere unos minutos antes de encender la
cortadora.
3 Presione el botón de encendido/apagado para
colocarlo en la posición de encendido (ON)
y comenzar a recortar.
4 Coloque la cortadora en la posición de
apagado (OFF) y desenchúfela.
Cortadora inalámbrica
1 Cargue la unidad según las instrucciones.
Desenchufe la cortadora del tomacorriente y
extraiga el cable.
2 Presione el botón de encendido/apagado para
colocarlo en ON y comenzar a recortar.
3 Si la unidad comienza a descargarse durante
el uso, la la luz de batería parpadeará en
color naranja.
4 Si la batería se agota mientras está
utilizando el aparato, simplemente conecte
el cable suministrado a la cortadora y al
tomacorriente para seguir utilizándola.
Corte del cabello
w Utilice esta cortadora para el uso doméstico
que se describe en este manual.
w Si recorta el cabello de otra persona, asegúrese
de que la cabeza de esta se encuentre a la
altura de su pecho, para que todas las zonas se
vean con total claridad y se encuentren dentro
de su alcance.
w Utilice el artefacto solo sobre el cabello limpio
y seco.
w No utilice la unidad sobre el cabello húmedo
recién lavado.
w Antes de comenzar, peine el cabello según el
sentido de crecimiento de este (Fig. 3).
w Para obtener resultados óptimos en el corte,
siempre mueva el artefacto lentamente por la
cabeza, en sentido contrario al crecimiento del
cabello.
3 Sople o sacuda los cabellos que puedan
haberse acumulado en el peine.
4 Enjuague el peine con agua corriente
o límpielo con el cepillo de limpieza
suministrado.
5 Ejerza presión en el centro del elemento de
corte con el pulgar (1) hasta que se libere del
cabezal giratorio (2) (Fig. 20).
No deje caer el elemento de corte al suelo.
6 Limpie el elemento de corte bajo agua
corriente o con el cepillo suministrado
(Fig. 21).
Asegúrese de que el elemento de corte esté
completamente seco antes de volver a colocar la
cortadora.
7 Limpie el interior del cabezal giratorio bajo el
agua corriente o con el cepillo suministrado
(Fig. 22).
8 Limpie el mango y el adaptador con el
cepillo de limpieza o con un paño seco.
9 Inserte la orejeta del elemento de corte en
la ranura en el cabezal giratorio y presione
hasta ír un clic (Fig. 23).
Limpieza del cabezal de afeitado
1 Apague la cortadora y desconéctela del
tomacorriente.
2 Presione el botón de liberación en el cabezal
de afeitado y quite la lámina de afeitado del
cabezal de corte (Fig. 24).
3 Enjuague el cabezal de afeitado y la lámina de
afeitado bajo agua corriente (Fig. 25).
NOTA: para limpiar el cabezal de afeitado con
el cepillo de limpieza, cepille la parte interna y
externa del cabezal y la parte externa de la hoja
de afeitado. Para extraer los cabellos atrapados
en el interior de la hoja de afeitado, golpee
suavemente la parte inferior de la hoja sobre una
superficie plana.
4 Vuelva a presionar la hoja de afeitado dentro
del cabezal (Fig. 26).
Cambio del cabezal de la lámina de
afeitado
w Si la lámina y las cuchillas de afeitado están
desgastadas o dañadas, no continúe utilizando la
cortadora. Reemplace la hoja de afeitado y las
cuchillas de inmediato.
w Se recomienda reemplazar la
lámina y las cuchillas una vez al año.
w Cambie las hojas o cuchillas de afeitado
desgastadas o dañadas solo por hojas
originales de Philips Norelco modelo QC5500,
disponibles en el sitio web de Philips Norelco,
www.philips.com/support, o comuníquese al
1-800-243-3050 para solicitar asistencia.
w La hoja de afeitado es una pieza de precisión.
Manéjela con cuidado.
1 Apague la cortadora y desconéctela del

5 Quite las cuchillas usadas (Fig. 29).
6 Coloque las nuevas cuchillas en el cabezal de
afeitado. Escuchará un "clic" (Fig. 30).
7 Vuelva a presionar la hoja de afeitado dentro
del cabezal (Fig. 26).

Almacenamiento
w La cortadora debe estar apagada. Desenchufe
el cable del tomacorriente y de la cortadora
antes de guardarla en un lugar seguro y seco,
donde no se aplaste, golpee ni pueda sufrir
daños.
w No enrolle el cable alrededor de la cortadora
cuando la guarde.
Corte de pelo con peine accesorio
1 La cortadora debe estar en la posición de
apagado (OFF).
2 Seleccione el peine según el largo deseado.
La tabla muestra la longitud del cabello
después del recorte con los diferentes
ajustes del peine de precisión y del peine
común.
La longitud del cabello después del corte también
se indica en cada uno de los peines (Fig. 4)
– Peine de precisión: 1 - 3 mm
(3/64 – 1/8 pulg.)
– Peine regulare: 3 - 15 mm
3 Deslice el peine seleccionado dentro de
las ranuras de guía en ambos lados del
cabezal giratorio de la cortadora y empújelo
hasta oír un «clic» (Fig. 5).
Trabe el peine accesorio adecuadamente en la
posición correcta.
4 Gire el anillo de ajuste para el largo del
cabello para regular el peine tal como lo desea
(Fig. 6). Consulte los ajustes en la Tabla 1.
No gire el anillo de ajuste para el largo del cabello
más allá de la longitud máxima disponible.
5 La punta en forma de flecha de la cortadora
indica el ajuste seleccionado.
Para utilizar la unidad por primera vez, configure la
cortadora en la máxima longitud de cor te (5) del
peine común para familiarizarse con el artefacto y
evitar cortar el cabello demasiado corto de forma
accidental. Cuando se familiarice con los ajustes,
configure el selector de longitud de la cortadora
según el largo deseado.
SUGERENCIA: utilice diferentes ajustes de corte
para crear una transición natural y suave entre los
distintos largos de cabello, desde la nuca hasta la
punta de la cabeza (Fig.7).
Uso del cabezal giratorio
w En la posición de corte inicial 0˚ (hacia
adelante), gire el cabezal giratorio 45˚ o 90˚
hacia la izquierda o la derecha para ajustar la
posición del elemento de corte a la zona de
corte durante el uso (Fig. 8).
1 Gire el cabezal giratorio hacia la izquierda o
la derecha hasta la posición de corte deseada.
En todas las posiciones escuchará un «clic»
(Fig. 9).
Siempre gire el cabezal giratorio para ajustar
la posición del elemento de corte. No gire el
elemento de corte ni el peine accesorio.
2 El cabezal giratorio le permite sostener y
utilizar la cortadora como un peine de
modelado (Fig. 10).
No gire el cabezal giratorio más de 90° hacia la
izquierda o la derecha.
3 Pulse el botón de encendido/apagado para
encender el artefacto.
4 Asegúrese de que la parte plana del peine
siempre esté en pleno contacto con el
cuero cabelludo para obtener un resultado
uniforme.
5 Como no todos los cabellos crecen en la misma
dirección, mueva la cortadora lentamente desde
la coronilla en diferentes direcciones (es decir,
hacia arriba, abajo y a lo ancho) para obtener un
resultado parejo (Fig. 11).
6 Siempre mueva la cortadora en sentido
contrario al crecimiento del cabello.
7 Vuelva a pasar la cortadora por las zonas ya
recortadas para asegurarse de cortar todo el
pelo que desea.
8 A medida que recorta diferentes zonas de la
cabeza, ajuste la posición del cabezal giratorio
para tener mayor comodidad.
9 Para obtener mejores resultados en cabellos
rizados, dispares o largos, utilice un peine
de modelado para guiar el cabello hacia la
cortadora.
10 Apague la cortadora regularmente durante el
uso y extraiga el peine para soplar o sacudir
el cabello acumulado.
Cuando extraiga el peine, la configuración
seleccionada no se modificará.

1 Desenchufe el cable eléctrico del
