INTRODUCTION
Take time to attentively read all continuous information in this instruction manual and keep it for consultation it contains
DIMENSION OF WOOD STOVE
WARNING
all the necessary information to an installation and an efficient use of the Diamond wood Insert.
Before installing the wood Insert consult the local authorities to obtain a construction permit. Take note of all the lawful requirements into force. In most cases a construction permit is required.
The installation of equipment will be made in accordance with the regulation authorities having jurisdiction on ' Code of installation wood heating equipment. (CAN/CSA B365)
DO NOT INSTALL THIS INSERT IN A MOBILE HOME.
It is prohibited to use gasoline, oil or other flammable liquids to light a fire.
Never use your wood stove as an incinerator to burn great quantities of light fuels such as oil waste, naphtha, and gasoline or engine oil. The fire might get out of control and may cause a chimney fire.
All insert surfaces becomes very hot during operation, do not touch them.
Keep the door closed when the stove is in use because if you heat with the door open smoke can be released (carbon monoxide) from your stove and can involve the loss of control of the flame.
If the stove is installed in the basement on a cement floor, with unfinished walls and ceiling joints, the efficiency will be affected (up to 75%) due to an ambient coolness too high.

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS
A. Keep the children away from the stove when it is in use.
EXPANSION NOISES
COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS
OVERHEATING
B. This stove was designed to burn wood in reasonable quantity. Avoid large fires, which could damage the stove.
Do not burn wet or green wood, or wood that contains salt, plywood or melamine.
C. It is prohibited to use flammable liquid to begin or activate a fire. Preserve these products far from the heat
sources.
D. When the stove is used for the first time make small fires in order to allow the refractory stones to solidify
themselves.
E. During these first fires, the stove paint can release odour or smoke. Open a window to decrease these nuisances.
It can also prove to be necessary to open a window in the case of a house built too hermetically or when an apparatus of ventilation is in function.
F. When fire is extinguished and the stove has cooled off, close the damper key and the fresh air control until the
next use of your stove.
G. If you must leave the stove lit without monitoring, ensured yourself that the door is well closed by doing it
delicately. Leave the register open.
H. Do not elevate the fire by means of grates, irons or other means.
Contraction and expansion noises during the heating/cooling cycle are normal phenomenon. It is not necessary thus to worry.
The additional logs, curtain and furnishing must be kept at a minimum distance of 48’’ (1220 mm) from the stove. It is recommended to heat the chimney in order to avoid the risk of smoke. With this in mind, use an ignited newspaper and keep it in the direction of the chimney.
Do not burn household wastes, treated wood or wood found on a beach that may contain salt or other chemical products. Salt and other chemical products will cause corrosion to the fireplace and chimney. Do not abuse your fireplace by burning remaining of construction wood, Christmas tree and a large quantity of newspaper or cardboard. Intense fire caused by those products may damage the fireplace and provoke a fire due to the overheating and even a chimney fire if there is a creosote accumulation.
4
Page 5
CREOSOTE
When wood burns slowly, it produces tar and other organic vapours when, associated with moisture, forms creosote. The
WOOD
MANUFACTURED LOGS
creosote vapour condenses in a chimney flue relatively cooled by a slow fire. Its results in an accumulation from creosote inside the pipe. When burning, the creosote forms an extremely blazing hot fire.
It is preferable to make small brisk fires rather than large smouldering fires. This will enable you to keep the chimney and panes clean.
It is important to inspect the chimney or clean it periodically.
Avoid using green wood to slow down combustion. This causes the formation of excessive soot and creosote deposit in the chimney. It may cause a chimney fire. An accumulation of more than 3mm of creosote is sufficient to proceed to the cleaning of the chimney in order to reduce the risks of a chimney fire.
It is important to burn seasoned wood to obtain a better quantity of heat per cord wood. Burn reasonable loads, do not overload the stove and ensure that the logs are placed in order not to fall against the glass, or to burn too close to the glass.
Use seasoned wood only. Note that 6-12 months are needed for drying to have seasoned wood of 15 to 20 % of moisture.
Important: Do not store the wood near the stove.
The manufactured logs or eco logs can be use can be used in air-tight wood heating appliances only if they are made of 100% compressed wood residues. The manufactured logs who use chemical additives should under no circumstances be used as fuel, because they produce a much more intense heat that can damage your device and avoid warranty. The manufactured logs who are made with 100% compressed wood residues should be used with caution. In general, this type of log produces a high heat for a short period of time. The appliance could overheat if too much log is use simultaneously. It is recommended to start the ignition with a single log.
5
Page 6
LIGHTING A FIRE
Lighting, a good sharp fire is necessary. Introduce into the outer firebox a small quantity of old ruffled papers and cover
GLASS
them with seasoned kindling. Open the damper keys (located at the center, behind the higher shutter) and light fire. As soon as fire is well taken, add pieces of wood a little larger and close the door. When the stove is hot, do not touch the handle with bare hands.
At the beginning of lighting open the air register input (Lever located at the bottom of the ash drawer) so that the air is not driven back in the stove, it is very important to foresee a good airflow in the area.
The combustion controls were especially designed to allow an air intake of 10% when they are completely closed.
Never bang the door and never strike the glass. When you close the doors, make sure that the logs are placed in order not to bang against the glass, or to burn to close to the glass.
Never clean the glass with abrasive products. The scratches could be transformed into cracks and the glass could break. Never try to clean the hot glass when the stove is in use. You will find cleaning products at your retailer.
Never use flammable products, which could cause an explosion.
Inspect the glass regularly in order to detect cracks. If you see a crack, extinguish the fire immediately return the door to your retailer to replace the glass before re-using your stove. Never use your stove if a glass is broken.
Never replace the glass by another material. If needed, you must replace it by another glass of the same size that you can get from your retailer.

REFRACTORY BRICKS REPLACEMENT
Do not use the stove when there is a missing or broken brick.
DOOR MAINTENANCE
If a refractory brick is broken replace it by a similar one.
You can purchase replacement refractory bricks at your retailer or at Soca Industries INC.
REFRACTORY BRICK
Before heating the stove for the first time, it is necessary to remove all the labels and wash the door with soapy water
(soft soap). Because, the least traces on the door will remain forever when heating your stove.
Clean your stove regularly by removing the ashes. Then, deposit ashes in a steel container provided with a tight lid. This container should not have any other type of waste in it.
The door and the gasket must always be clean and in good condition. Perhaps for an intensive use, it will be necessary to replace the door’s joint if it lost its elasticity. Check the door’s sealing periodically; a damaged or used joint must be replaced immediately. Contact the nearest store for spare parts.
Note that solid fuel stoves must be frequently cleaned because an accumulation of soot, creosote and ashes can be formed. Directions must be given concerning the measures to be taken if there is a chimney fire due to an accumulation of soot or creosote.
8
Page 9
MAINTENANCE OF PLATED SURFACES
Never clean plated surfaces with abrasive cleanser. Plated surfaces of your stove can easily be scratched. To retain their
CHIMNEY MAINTENANCE
ASHES
TYPE OF LINER
original finish only use a soft damp during maintenance.
It is important to inspect the chimney or clean it periodically.
It is necessary to clean the chimney after an accumulation of 3 mm creosote.
After two months of continuous service, it would be preferable to clean the chimney and dismount the pipe of the stove to remove soot and creosote.
Before beginning each heating season, check the interior and exterior of the stove and the chimney in order to detect any
defect or deterioration.
To reduce the risks of chimney fires, check your chimney by regularly inspecting it in order to check the accumulation of creosote. To reach it, unscrew the hat. A wood or plastic brush is recommended to avoid scratches on the internal wall.
Remove ashes only when the stove and ashes are cold. Deposit ashes in a metal container with a tightly fitting lid. Do not keep ashes in the house because they release carbon monoxide and other harmful products. Do not place
other waste materials in the metal ash container.
Place the ashes well away from all combustible materials, pending final disposal. Ashes remain hot during days
and could cause a fire, they should be retained in the container until all cinders have thoroughly cooled.
Do not deposit ashes in cardboard box.
The Diamond Insert must be installed with a continuous chimney liner of 6’’ diameter extending from the fireplace insert
to the top of the chimney. The chimney liner must conform to the Class 3 requirements of CAN/ULC-S635, Standard for Lining Systems for Existing Masonry or Factory-Built Chimneys, or CAN/ULC-S640, Standard for Lining Systems for New
Masonry Chimneys.
The lining brings back the flue section to the stove nozzle and isolates the flue gas from the masonry structure which allows it to retain its heat and ensure a better circulation.
9
Page 10
CHIMNEY
The stove must not be connected to any other distribution system: such as an incinerator, heating system or ventilation
MINIMUM HEIGHT OF THE CHIMNEY
VENTILATION
system.
The Diamond requires a stainless liner that must be placed from the nozzle of the stove to the top of the chimney.
The liner facilitates the sweeping and maintenance, since the sweeping can be done from the top of the chimney and that the deposits can be removed from inside the insert.
Before connecting the unit, the chimney must be swept thoroughly to make sure there are no deposits. All materials used for connecting the stove must be resistant to corrosion.
The chimney must extend at least 3' (915 mm) past its point of contact with the roof and must be at least 2' (610 mm) any walls, roof or building in a radius of 10' (3050 mm). If the chimney exceeds the roof by 5' (1525 mm) or more, it must have a chimney brace.
Venting Requirements:
The flue is a critical component to a satisfactory installation. Your Diamond Insert will attain its best performance if installed with a chimney that generates its own draft. The minimum requirement of a flue will be the installation of a flue connector (the liner must conform to UL1777 chimney liners) from the insert into the first flue tile of the chimney (USA), or a continuous stainless steel liner (the liner must conform to the Class 3 requirements of CAN/ULC-S635) directly connected to the flue outlet (Canada). A continuous 6’’ (152mm) stainless steel liner from the top of the chimney is the optimum system and will provide the best performance, as well as compensate for poor draft situations.
10
Page 11
FRESH AIR INPUT & RETURN OF SMOKE
A Diamond stove well installed should not produce any smoke in the house. If the stove produces smoke, it will probably
be for one of the following reasons :
1. The external installation of the chimney is defective or incorrect, engaging in an air return problem and,
consequently difficult lightings.
2. The heating of the chimney is insufficient. Not to forget that the hotter the stove is, the more the chimney will
intake smoke.
3. The door or the air register input were closed again too quickly. The contribution of air is essential with the
maintenance of combustion.
4. If the area is too airtight or the house presents a negative pressure and it does not have an external air intake, the
contribution of air to the stove will be more difficult than normal. Temporarily open a window near the stove to increase it.
5. Any ventilator (cook top exhaust fan, bathroom ventilator, central vacuum cleaner or drier) intakes the air towards
outside may create a negative pressure in the house. Close them or open a window near the stove to regulate this problem.
6. Wet wood releases more smoke while burning than seasoned wood. The wetter the wood is the less heat it
releases, the more it produces creosote. If the wood burnt is very wet, have the chimney inspected every month that the stove is in use.
7. Make sure that the chimney is reasonably clean and free of any obstruction.
8. Check if the chimney is sufficiently high: a minimum of 3’ (914mm) above its junction with the roof (see page 10).
If not, add additional lengths of duct, which will increase the chimney’s draft and reduce the smoke return tendency.
9. A chimney joined to an external wall without coating may often cause problems. Open a window near the stove,
heat the chimney while presenting paper in the shape of a torch in the opening or by crumpling several newspapers in the stove, put the fire at 3 or 4 different places, hold the door half open to have a more active fire in the stove, then, during this time, the chimney will be heated more quickly.
10. Always remove the surplus of ashes before lighting a fire. Maintain a thickness of ashes to 254mm (1 inch) to
optimize combustion and maximize the duration of fire.
11

CHIMNEY FIRE
Communicate with the municipal or provincial fire prevention services to obtain information on how to control chimney

FLOOR PROTECTION
fires. If a chimney fire is declared, they know exactly the measures to take. If you suspect the existence of a chimney fire, it is recommended to:
Close the door and the air intake key on the stove. Alert all the family members. Call the fire department if you need assistance. Try to extinguish or control the fire with a dry extinguisher, baking soda, sand or ashes. Never use salt because it
is corrosive or water because this may cause a vapour explosion.
Make sure that the sparks leaving the chimney do not ignite the roof. Have your stove and chimney inspected by the fire protection organization before using it again.
You should not install your smoke detector too close to your stove because it will go off when opening the door for loading.
It is prohibited to modify the air intake in any way.
When you choose an insert model, it is almost always necessary to protect the floor by extending the hearth at least 18’’ (45cm) in front of the appliance and a minimum of 8’’ (203mm) on each side of the unit as measured from the load door. The floor protection must be built out of non-combustible materials (tile, marble, stone, etc…)

CHIMNEY LINING SYSTEM INSTALLATION DIAGRAM
WARNING: do not remove bricks and mortar from the existing fireplace. The space between the Diamond Insert and the masonry fireplace must be closed. The masonry fireplace must meet the minimum code requirement for a safe installation. Contact your local Building Inspector for requirement in your area.
ATTENTION INSTALLER: When positioning the unit in a fireplace opening prior to the flue installation, install the insert into the opening until the top lip of air jacket is flush with fireplace facing. If lag-bolts and anchors are to be used to secure the insert, the hole locations should be marked with the unit in place. Remove the insert and locate the anchors.
14
Page 15
FULL FLUE LINER METHOD
The Insert must be installed as per the requirements of your local inspection authority. In Canada a full flue liner is
REMOVAL OF THE FIREPLACE INSERT
required. A full flue liner is where a stainless steel rigid or flexible liner pipe is routed from the insert outlet collar to the top of the chimney. The Soca Industries recommends the use of a full liner as the safest installation and provides the most optimum performance.
1. Measure the chimney height from the top of the existing flue to the floor of the hearth. This will allow extra length
of liner for flashing and rain cap.
2. Feed the stainless steel liner from the top of the chimney, through the damper area and into the fireplace cavity.
3. Attach a stove connector to the bottom of the liner.
4. Push the Insert into position inside the fireplace and attach the connector to the stove collar.
NOTE: If it is necessary to get access to the connector pipe through the flue outlet of the insert, the baffle can be
removed.
5. Measure, trim and shape a top flashing to fit the existing chimney flue. Plan for a 1” to 1-1/2” overlap on each side.
Place flashing over top of the liner and seat firmly against the tile.
6. Screw flashing collar to liner. Caulk gap around flashing with silicone.
7. Attach a rain cap to the end of the liner. A storm collar may be used if desired.
Consult your local Dealer about relining your fireplace chimney.
For the purpose of inspecting the fireplace insert and the fireplace, it is possible to remove the insert. WARNING: To avoid possible burns, make sure the fireplace insert is cold before its removal.
1. Remove the ashes from the firebox.
2. Unplug the blowers’ power cord.
3. Remove the door.
4. Unscrew the three nuts fixing the flue collar to the firebox top.
5. Push up the flue collar until it goes out of the firebox top.
6. Slide the firebox out of the fireplace.
