EN Instructions for use
INTRODUCTION
This owners manual is for the N145/N150 U .… 2E Norcold absorption. It explains how to use your refrigerator correctly and safely. Read the manual carefully before using the refrigerator for the fi rst time to obtain a quick overview of how to operate and use the refrigerator. Norcold absorption refrigerators are specially designed to store fresh and frozen food in caravans and motor homes. The control panel allows you to select the preferred energy source and cooling level. Different energy sources allow you to use your refrigerator under different conditions. There are numbers in the text that refer to illustrations. These illustrations are printed at the beginning of this manual. To fi nd out more about how your absorption refrigerator works, visit our website at www.norcold.com.
2 PRECAUTIONS AND SAFETY
INSTRUCTIONS
2.1 Alerts
The following alerts are used in this user’s manual: Warning! “Warning” alerts the user to the danger of damage to the product or to the user if the user fails to carry out the described procedures carefully. Non-observance of the procedures may result in serious injury to the user or damage to the product. Caution! “Caution” alerts the user to the possibility of damage to the product if the user fails to carry out the described procedures carefully. Important! “Important” denotes supplementary information for the user and alerts the user to potential problems.
2.2 Warnings
- This refrigerator must be installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions and in compliance with local and national regulations.
- Read this manual carefully before you start to use your refrigerator.
- Always consult the warnings before you perform any maintenance or gas checks.
2.2.1 Repairs / maintenance
- Never open or damage the cooling system. The cooling system is pressurized and contains substances harmful to health.
- Never attempt to repair gas, fl ue or electrical parts yourself. They must be repaired by a qualifi ed service engineer. Contact the Customer Service department of Norcold for a list of qualifi ed parties or look on the website.
- Always switch off the refrigerator before you perform any kind of maintenance or cleaning.
2.2.2 Use
- Never cover the ventilation grills in the walls of a caravan. Good ventilation is essential for the correct working of the absorber system.
- Water in the ventilation grating can result in damage
to the refrigerator. Therefore, we advise that you put
the winter cover over the ventilation gratings prior to washing your vehicle.
- Never expose the refrigerator to rain.
- Never operate the refrigerator by gas while driving. If a road accident results in fi re, there is a risk of explosion.
- The storage of fl ammable materials behind or around the refrigerator creates a fi re hazard. Do not use the area behind the refrigerator to store anything, especially fl ammable materials (gasoline, cleaning supplies, etc.)
- Make sure there are no obstructions in the vents, the ventilation air pathway, the burner, the orifi ce, or the fl ue area.
- At regular intervals, make sure that the refrigerator fl ue, the burner, the vent areas, and the ventilation air pathway between the vents are completely free from any fl ammable material or blockage. After a period of storage, it is especially important to check these areas for any fl ammable material or blockage caused by animals.
2.2.3 What to do if…
You smell gas:
- close the valve of the gas bottle;
- extinguish any open fl ames;
- do not switch on any electrical devices or lighting;
- open the windows and leave the room;
- contact the Customer Service department of Norcold.
You suspect a leak in the cooling system:
- switch off the refrigerator;
- extinguish any open fl ames;
- provide suffi cient ventilation;
- contact the Customer Service department of Norcold.
3 ABOUT YOUR REFRIGERATOR
Your refrigerator has a cold space and a freezer compartment. After starting up the refrigerator, allow it to cool for at least eight hours before placing any food in it.
3.1 Cold space
The cooling fi ns are located on the inside of your refrigerator. The absorption system uses the cooling fi ns to withdraw heat from the refrigerator.
Important! Do not cover the cooling fi ns at the back of the refrigerator with plastic or paper. The refrigerator cools optimally when air is allowed to move freely through the refrigerator. To limit frost forming on the cooling fi ns:
- always cover liquid foods before placing them in the refrigerator;
- always let hot food cool before placing it in the refrigerator;
- never keep the refrigerator open longer than necessary.

3.1.1 Fitting racks
Inside your refrigerator there are three storage racks. You can adjust the racks to a convenient height by means of a simple click system:
1. click the plastic bracket to the right short side of the rack;
2. turn the bracket into the horizontal position and insert the
rack tipped in a sloping position into the refrigerator;
3. place the short side without bracket into one of the
grooves on the left wall of the refrigerator;
4. place the short side with bracket in the corresponding
groove on the right wall of the refrigerator;
5. turn the bracket downwards to fi x it into the groove.
6. fi xate rack with screw
To move a rack, remove screw and turn the bracket upwards and remove the rack. Place the rack at the required height in the way described above.
3.1.2 Securing products for driving
The fi tting racks in your refrigerator have a system for you to secure products while driving. The system consists of a simple click-and-slide plastic strip. To secure products on the rack while driving, push the plastic strip as tightly as you can against the products on the rack. In the storage space on the inside of the refrigerator door, there is a unique bottle slide.
EN
The slide prevents bottles from sliding around during driving. Place the products between the bottle slide (picture 1).
3.1.3 Remove and clean the burner orifi ce: Note: Your dealer or an authorized Norcold Service Center
must do this procedure. To remove and clean the burner orifi ce:
1. Close the valve at the propane gas tank(s).
2. Close the manual shut off valve of the refrigerator.
3. Shut down the refrigerator.
4. Open the lower intake vent. Caution! The burner box cover can be hot.
Wear gloves to avoid burns.
5. Remove the burner box cover by removing one screw. Warning! To avoid possible propane gas leaks, always
use two wrenches to loosen and tighten the gas supply line at the refrigerator’s manual shut off valve.
6. Remove the fl are nut from the orifi ce assembly.
7. Remove the orifi ce assembly from the burner.
Warning! Do not try to remove the orifi ce from the orifi ce
adapter when cleaning. Removal will damage the orifi ce and seal of the orifi ce and can cause a propane gas leak. Leaking propane gas can ignite or explode which can result in dangerous personal injury or death. Do not clean the orifi ce with a pin or other objects.
8. Clean the orifi ce assembly with air pressure and alcohol
only.
9. Using a wrench, assemble the orifi ce assembly to the
burner.
10. Assemble the fl are nut to the orifi ce assembly.
11. Tighten the fl are nut by hand.
12. Hold the orifi ce assembly securely and, using a wrench,
tighten the fl are nut 1/4 revolution only.
13. Examine all of the connections for gas leaks.
3.2 Freezer compartment
Important!
- The freezer compartment is unsuitable as a means of freezing food, the freezer will maintain the temperature of already frozen food.
- Use only drinking water to make ice cubes.
3.3 Door locking mechanism
The refrigerator door has an automatic locking mechanism. The door locks automatically when you press it shut fi rmly. This automatic locking mechanism also keeps the refrigerator door shut during driving. An additional security device is fi tted below the refrigerator. By pushing the locking bar over the pin when the door is closed, you can be sure that the door does not open during your journey. If you are not going to use the refrigerator for a prolonged period of time, you can use the special storage latch of the door locking mechanism (see illustration 2) to prevent odors. Rotate the hook through 90 degrees and lock it in place using the strike plate.
4 DELUXE REFRIGERATORS
OPERATION
- It is recommended to clean the inside of the refrigerator before you switch it on.
- Let the refrigerator cool for at least eight hours before you place food in it for the fi rst time.
4.1 Igniting and starting your refrigerator
Electric ignition (see illustration 3 and 4):
To operate the refrigerator, a powersupply of 12V DC is always needed. A. The refrigerator can be powered by the mains (120V),
direct current (12V) or liquid gas. Select the energy source that you want by means of the energy source selector switch (A). The switch has four settings:
- direct current (DC) (12V)
- mains supply (120V)
- gas
- switched off
B. The thermostat controls the refrigerator temperature on
all powersources. The refrigeration level is indicated by the dots (the bigger the dot, the colder the setting).
C. The fl ame meter shows whether the fl ame is lit. The
fl ame is alight when the red needle of the meter moves into the green area.
D. The fridges have a divider heater. By heating the metal
plate between the freezer and the fridge cabinet, the divider heater prevents ice-forming when the freezer door is opened and also prevents the freezer door from freezing stuck to the metal breaker of the fridge. To save energy, the divider heater can be switched off. The switch can be found on the side of the control panel near the latch.
