INFORMATION ABOUT THE OPERATION
While reading this manual, you will note that the everyday use of Mediamaster is based on a series of user friendly menus. These menus will help the user to optimise the Mediamaster use. They will also represent a valuable guide for the installation and selection of channels, the view of programmes and many other functions.
All functions can be performed by pressing the keys on the remote control. For some functions you may also use the keys on the front panel.
It shall be remembered that any new operator software and/or application may change the Mediamaster operation.
If you should have any difficulty in using Mediamaster, please refer to the corresponding section of this manual and consult the section Solution of the problems. Y ou may also apply to your own retailer or contact the Call Centre Nokia Home Communications at no. 199.11.55.22.
This Terminal Equipment is intended for connection to the analogue Public Switched T elephone Networks (PSTNs), in which network addressing , if provided, is by means of Dual Tone Multiple-Frequency (DTMF) signalling.

• The space around Mediamaster shall be always large enough to provide for adequate ventilation.
• Never cover Mediamaster and never arrange it on a heat-producing unit.
• Use a soft cloth and a non-aggressive detergent solution to clean the external structure.
• Never use or drop liquids, sprays or any other substance inside Mediamaster .
• Never connect or move the cables when Mediamaster is connected to the supply mains.
INFORMATION ABOUT SAFETY
• Never remove the cover.
• Never expose the receiver to hot or cold weather or to humidity.
• Any technical assistance operation may be only carried out in a technical assistance centre authorised by Nokia.
• It shall be noted the only way of detaching Mediamaster completely from the supply mains is to disconnect the supply cable!

This section is intended to describe the Mediamaster use by means of the remote control keys. Some of these functions can be also performed from the keys on the front panel.
REMOTE CONTROL
To power Mediamaster on and off (standby mode).
TV SA T To go from the traditional TV view to the satellite TV view of
Mediamaster and vice versa. To enable / disable the audio (muting).
Function key. The specific function is shown by the video menu from time to time.
Set-up for the e-mail message service.
0 - 9 T o change the channel and select ever y single menu option. A Function key. The specific function is shown by the video

Pay-TV services with a Common Interface CA-module (Conditional Access)*
Refer to the instructions about the Smart Card and/or the CA­module.
Press the grey key behind the door of the front panel of Mediamaster to remove the plastic protection intended to cover the slot for the CA-module.
Insert the conditional access module completely into the slot.
Insert a smart card into the slot of the CA-module and leave it
inside to enable the Operator to transfer any information onto the smart card.
Press the grey key to remove the module.
PIN Code
The PIN code (Personal Identification Number), a 4-digit code, is recorded on the Smart Card. This code is required to have access to the services offered by one’s own Service Provider.

This function can be implemented with future software update.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE SMART CARD AND CONDITIONAL ACCESS
General Information
The Nokia Mediamaster 9701S receiver is complete with a conditional access system of a Mediaguard type (SECA). It is compatible for using the smart cards of the TELE+DIGITALE operator and of other operators who use the same cryptography system (SECA). T o have access to other operators who use different conditional access systems, this receiver is equipped with a Common Interface slot for the Multicrypt. Note: For the normal operation and use of the Mediamaster 9701S Goldbox for the reception of encrypted channels, it is necessary to insert the supplied smart cart into the Smart Card 2 slot. (Light Card). If you should subscribe to the TELE
+DIGITALE Operator, the
Light Card shall be removed and replaced by the new Smart Card, which will enable the user to have access to the TELE+DIGITALE services.
Pay-TV services with a Mediaguard Smart Card (SECA)
Insert the Smart Card completely into the slot behind the front
door of Mediamaster. The slot is identified by Smart Card 2. The golden clip shall be turned downwards and inwards. Note: It is recommended to leave the Smart Card inside Mediamaster to receive enable commands constantly .

SCART plugs
Two SCART plugs are arranged at the rear of Mediamaster (see the figure). While connecting other devices to these plugs, always use type approved SCART cables (just as those supplied). The market can also offer cheaper SCART cables, but their use might compromise the quality of the image.
Preparation of the remote control
Remove the cover of the remote control battery compartment.
Insert 2 AAA batteries (1.5 V) as it is shown by the figure.
Observe the polarities shown by the + and – symbols inside the compartment.
Reassemble the cover .
Installation of the satellite antenna
To install the antenna, refer to the Instructions for the assembly of the satellite antenna”.
Connect the coaxial cable complete with F connectors from the LNB on the satellite antenna to the ANTENNA plug on the rear panel of Mediamaster (or on the DiSEqC switch for dualfeed antennas).

Prepare each end of the cable as it is shown by the figure.
It will be necessary to fold back the outer braid (as it is shown).
Insert the F connector on the cable. Rotate it clockwise to
fasten it onto the braid.
Make sure 3 mm. wire will protrude from the connector.

General information
There are several types of TV sets or videorecorders and other devices which may be connected to Mediamaster. This manual is intended to show some of the commonest ways of connecting one’s own equipment. If RF cables are in use, it will be necessary to tune the TV set and the videorecorder to the Mediamaster output channel (see page 11). If you should have difficulty in connecting, apply to your own
retailer for support.

Connect a SCART cable between the videorecorder and the AUX SCART socket on Mediamaster.
Connect an RF cable between the RF output on the videorecorder and the TV antenna input on the TV set.
Connect an RF cable between the RF output on the analogue receiver and the RF input socket on the videorecorder .
Connect the TV antenna to the RF input on the analogue receiver .
A priority switch of a Smart Switch type (A B in the figure) or a universal “Twin” LNB is required to switch the antenna signal between analogue and digital receivers.

Connect a coaxial cable between the A output on the Smart Switch priority switch (accessory) and the LNB socket g on the analogue receiver.
Connect a coaxial cable between the B output on the Smart Switch priority switch (accessory) and the ANTENNA socket on Mediamaster.
When you wish to watch digital satellite channels through Mediamaster , the analogue receiver shall be off (standby).

Connection of the integrated modem
The modem integrated in Mediamaster is meant for the use of interactive services (see page 37).
Connect a phone cable between the PHONE LINE connector on the back panel of Mediamaster and the home phone jack.
Connection of an HiFi installation
Connect an RCA/Cinch stereo cable between the LEFT / RIGHT AUDIO plugs on Mediamaster and the LINE, AUX, SP ARE or EXTRA input sockets on the HiFi installation.
If available, connect a single RCA/Cinch cable between the DIGITAL AUDIO plug on Mediamaster and the HiFi or Dolby Pro Logic installation.
Note: To avoid any interference, use a shielded video cable.

This procedure is only required if Mediamaster is connected to the TV by means of an RF cable.
To tune your own TV to the RF signal, you may have to refer not only to this manual, but also to the manual of the TV set. The steps here below explain what to do if you have not been able to use SCART cables for connections.
Connect Mediamaster .
Insert the SMART CARD into the SMART CARD 2 slot. The
golden clip shall be turned downwards and inwards. It is recommended to leave the SMART CARD inside Mediamaster to receive enable commands constantly.
Tuning the TV to use Mediamaster
Select a channel number which has not been used for other TV channels on the TV set.
Follow the instructions given by the TV set manual to tune the UHF 39 channel (it is the UHF channel which is pre-assigned to Mediamaster by default).
The TV screen will show the PERSONALIZZAZIONE menu.
Follow the instructions given by the TV set manual to store the UHF channel you have selected as Mediamaster channel. This is the channel which shall be selected to watch digital TV / Radio channels.
After having displayed the PERSONALIZZAZIONE menu, you may start setting up as described by the following pages.
Note:
the Mediamaster RF Modulator works only on channel UHF39.

General information
After having connected Mediamaster correctly, provide for the preliminary set-up as per item 4, 5 and 7 of the PERSONALIZ­ZAZIONE menu.
Note: press OK to confirm a selection which has been made in these menus. However , it is important to know that more than a value shall often be specified in a menu. First of all, provide for the set-up as required by the various lines. Then press OK to confirm all of them at the same time.
Press the A key to go back to the previous menu. Press the keys to move from a line to the other, up or
down. Press OK to have access to the menu of the selected item. Moreover , you may use the numeric keys on the remote control
to directly access to the relating menu.

System settings (PERS - 4)
From this menu provide for the basic set-up for the receiver, couple the TV and videorecorder correctly and connect the phone line for the use of interactive services.
Note: the following settings may be changed afterwards at any time.
Receiver settings (PERS - 4 - 1)
Select the various items of this menu to provide for the set-up. In the end press A to go back.
Favourite language (1)
Select the priority language for the audio. The set-up language will be automatically selected if the events should be broadcast by the Operator in more than a language.

TV audio (3)
Select the volume level at the start-up. The volume may be adjusted afterwards by pressing the keys. Attention: the maximum volume level of Mediamaster will vary according to the volume set-up on the TV set.
Subtitles (2)
Select the priority language for the subtitles. The set-up language will be automatically selected if the events should be broadcast by the Operator in more than a language.

Banner time-out (4)
It will define the time the information bar will be displayed on the screen: normal = 3 seconds, long = 6 seconds, off = no information bar will be displayed.
Notice (5)
Set VIDEO if you only wish to display a message on the receiver at the occurrence of an event which has been set up in the Records Programming menu. Set “VIDEO+SOUND” if you wish not only to display a message but also to produce a sound alarm (BEEP).
Clock set-up (6)
Press the B key to have access to the CLOCK SETUP menu. Enter the current date and time. Select WINTER for the solar time or SUMMER for the daylight saving time. Press OK to confirm or A to cancel.
Note: After having provided for tuning as it is described later on, the Operator will directly synchronise date and time.
TV/VIDEO screen format (PERS - 4 - 2)
Select the various items of this menu to provide for the set-up. In the end press A to go back.
TV screen format (1)
Select the TV screen format. The 4/3 format is the standard format of most TV sets. Select 16/9 for wide screen TV sets.

4/3 (STANDARD)
If your TV set has a 4/3 standard format and broadcasting should occur in the 16/9 format, it will be necessary to adjust the images on the screen. Select SCHERMO PIENO to cover the whole TV screen and lose the left and right part of the image. Select 1/3 SCREEN to see the complete image but with two black edges above and below the image..
TV audio (2)
Select the STEREO or MONO audio for the TV.
Modem configuration (PERS - 4 - 3)
This menu is intended to connect the modem inside the receiver to the phone line. Connect the modem to the phone line to use Mediamaster with the interactive services offered by the Operator and described on page 37. Select the various items of this menu to provide for the set-up. In the end press A to go back.
Modem
Set it to INTERNO. Set it to ESTERNO to connect the modem outside the receiver .
Selection
The TONI selection (recommended) is usually compatible with the signal used by the phone installation. If the call should fail, select IMPULSI.
TV signal (3)
Select RGB for a better image quality only if the receiver is connected to a 21-pole SCART cable. Select COMPOSITO if the RGB selection should be incompatible with any other connected equipment (example: analogue receivers, teletext, etc.).
VCR audio (4)
Set to STEREO by default.
VCR standard (5)
Selection not available. VCR standard already set to PAL.

Code number
Enter the phone code number of your operator. ALBACOM = 10770 INFOSTRADA = 10550 TELECOM = 0 WIND = 10880 Ecc...
Attention: Make sure the code number has been entered starting from the first space available on the left. T o do this, press the key several times to move towards right, the press to delete all the numbers or blank spaces of this field. Go back to the CODICE OPERATORE item before pressing the
A key to go back to the previous menus.
Note: This equipment has been approved pursuant to Council
Decision 98/482/EC [CTR 21] for pan-European single terminal connection to the Public Switched telephone Network (PSTN). However, due to differences between the individual PSTNs provided in different countries, the approval does not, of itself, give an unconditional assurance of successful operation on every PSTN termination point.
Connection
Select DIRETTA if the phone cable is directly connected to the phone line. Select PABX if the phone line is connected to a telephone exchange. Only in this case move to the PREFISSO item to enter the code number and have access to the external line. Move to the A TTESA DEL SEGNALE item to define whether to wait (SI) or not to wait (NO) for the central tone before dialling the call.

Technical parameters (PERS-7)
This menu is intended to provide for the set-up required to match Mediamaster with the satellite antenna and to supply the information about the system. Select the various items of this menu to provide for the set-up. In the end press A to go back.
LNB Supply
Select YES (SI) (recommended) to supply the LNB by connecting to the ANTENNA connector . Select NO only if the LNB is required by the antenna installation not to be directly supplied by the receiver.
Antenna signal
Refer to the indicator of the signal level to check the quality of the signal received from the antenna and to optimise the alignment. If the bar is green, the signal is good. If the bar is orange, the signal is average, but acceptable. If the bar is red, the signal is poor . In the latter case it is r ecommended to check the antenna installation and the antenna pointing before starting the following phases.

Note: Mediamaster can manage either single antenna with one
LNB antennas oriented to Eutelsat or single antenna equipped with two LNBs antennas oriented to Eutelsat and Astra. In the latter case, it is necessary to install a DiSEqC switch 1.0. The cable coming from the LNB oriented to Eutelsat shall be connected to input 1 (or A) of the switch. The cable coming from the LNB oriented to Astra shall be connected to input 2 (or B) of the switch. Now you can provide for the following set-up. After the set-up press the B key again to go back to the ANTENNA SETTING menu.
Select the various items of this menu to provide for the set-up. In the end press A to go back.

Satellite
Select Eutelsat for a monofeed installation. The other parameters of the same menu, described here below, will not be accessible because they have been preset by default. Select Others for a dualfeed installation. Set the parameters here below for the Astra satellite.
N. Antenna
Select 2 to activate the second input of the DiSEqC switch.
Band
Select Ku for Astra. Select C for the other satellites broadcasting within the C band.
Frequency
Enter the reference frequency value to control the quality of the Astra signal. For example 12363.
LNB OL frequency
Enter the value of the LNB local oscillator . The value is 10600 for universal LNBs.
Polarisation
Select the type of polarisation associated to the frequency value which has been set up in this menu. For example, select VERTICAL if frequency has been set to 12363.
22KHZ
Select SI if the 22KHz tone is required by the LNB to search for the reference frequency. For example, select SI if you have a universal LNB and you wish to search for the 12363 frequency .

The software may only be updated after the Mediamaster has been installed and tuned. See Mediamaster Update on page 34.

Software release (PERS-7-3)
To check the software release which has been installed in the Mediamaster. A green window will appear on the screen and show the software release and the manufacturer name. The Aggiornamento produttore and Aggiornamento Software items are not active for this model. Press A to go back or press EXIT to quit.
Tuning the channels (PERS - 5)
After having set up as described on the previous pages, you may start tuning and storing the channels. Press OK to have access to the NUMBERING SELECTION menu.

Numbering selection
This menu will show two different search conditions, according to the type of smart card which has been inserted.
Condition 1: Mediamaster with the Light Card.
Press the B key to have access to the customised search for channels. A green window will appear to select the search from 1 antenna or from 2 antennaes (for the installation of a dualfeed type).
Press OK to confirm the choice and start the search.
Attention: it will take about 30 minutes to search for the channels. While searching, you may see the percentage of the search which has been performed and the number of the channels which have been found from time to time.
Never stop executing this operation before the list of the channels found is displayed. Otherwise, no channel will be stored.
At the end of the search, max. 999 channels will be stored and listed in the channels list according to the progressive search order. The complete channels list will appear on the screen. Press to select a channel. Press to go to the following page of the channels list. Press OK to watch a channel.

Condition 2: Mediamaster with the Tele+Digitale smart card.
The smart card will enable the user to search for the channels not only according to a customised list but also according to the
TELE+DIGIT ALE list. Select TELE+DIGITALE and pr ess OK..
A green window will appear to select the search from 1 antenna or from 2 antennas (for the installation of a dualfeed type).
Press OK to confirm the choice and start the search.
Attention: it will take about 30 minutes to search for the channels. While searching, you may see the percentage of the search which has been performed and the number of the channels which have been found from time to time.
Never stop executing this operation before the list of the channels found is displayed. Otherwise, no channel will be stored.
At the end of the search, 500 channels will be stored according to the list of Tele+Digitale channels and another 499 according to the progressive search order . The complete channels list will appear on the screen. Press to select a channel. Press to go to the following page of the channels list. Press OK to watch a channel.
Never stop executing this operation before the list of the channels found is displayed. Otherwise, no channel will be stored.
Storing the settings
At the end of the search it is necessary to store all the settings. Select any channel of the channels list and press OK to watch. Power off the Mediamaster from the remote control by pressing the red key . Power on the Mediamaster from the remote control by pressing the red key .

Y ou will find a description of Mediamaster basic functions which may be performed while watching or listening to TV and Radio programmes via satellite. The availability and the features of the
following functions will depend upon the TELE+DIGITALE
Operator . These functions may vary according to the Operator’s needs.

Whenever you change the channel, the number and name of the selected channel will be displayed for some seconds. Press the
+ key to select your favourite language for audio, subtitles and
teletext. Note: these preferences are temporary for the current event. T o
change them permanently , select the PERS – 4 – 1 menu.
PILOT A key
Press the PILOTA key to display a bar with the following information:
- Channel name
- Channel number in the list
- Current time
- Start and End time of the event
- T itle of the event
- A bar showing the time which has elapsed
from the start of the current event
- Category of the event

Note: The information you may gather by pressing the PILOTA key is broadcast by the Operators of the various bouquets of channels. Some Operators might decide not to broadcast this information. The availability of the information will therefore depend upon every single Operator .

GUIDA key
Note: The GUIDA key will only act from the channels of the
TELE+DIGIT ALE bouquet. If you come from another channel and
you wish to select a channel of the TELE+DIGITALE offer, you
will have to wait some seconds for the loading of the information before the menu of the GUIDA function is displayed on the screen. The GUIDA key will display a shortcut menu for a rapid access
to the TELE+DIGIT ALE services.
Attention: The following information shall be referred to the services which are currently broadcast by TELE+DIGITALE. TELE+DIGITALE is entitled to change at any time the structures and features of the functions which may be used through the GUIDA key .
Press the GUIDA key to have access to the TELE+DIGITALE
EPG (Electronic Program Guide). Here you may find a series of information which can be selected from the main menu.

Tuned Channels
Press OK to display on the TV screen the list of the channels which have been tuned and stored on the Mediamaster . This will enable you to rapidly identify the channels in the list. Use the arrow keys to scroll the channels in the list. Use the arrow keys to rapidly move to the following / previous block of channels. Press OK to confirm the view of the selected channel. Press the E key to directly access to the same function (see page 23).
Palco
It will directly select the demonstration channel of the Pay-Per­View channels. See also the Purchase of Pay Per View events on page 37.
Mosaico
It will directly select the mosaic channel with the frames of all the
channels of the TELE+DIGIT ALE bouquet.
From this channel you have a rapid overview of the channels and select your favourite channel by pressing OK.
Vetrina
It will directly select the demonstration channel of the
TELE+DIGIT ALE TV bouquet.

PREF Key
This function is active after having assigned to your favourite channels the symbol as described by paragraph Selection of the favourite channels on page 27.
Press PREF to enable the favourite channels function. The white symbol will appear on the screen for some seconds (PREF function on). Now, if you press the arrow keys, you will only scroll your favourite channels on the screen.
Press PREF again to disable the favourite channels function. The red symbol will appear on the screen for some seconds (PREF function off). Now, if you press the arrow keys , you may scroll all the channels again.
Note: The favourite channels in view mode may be recognised by the symbol arranged beneath the name of the channel in the information bar .

Records Programming (PERS - 1)
The Mediamaster is complete with a function which will enable it to power on automatically and to move to the channel you have selected at a pre-established date and time, only if the Mediamaster is in standby mode, i.e. if you have powered it off by pressing the red key on the remote control.
Up to 8 different events can be predefined. T o record the programmed event, it is absolutely necessary to set
the same programmed start time for the videorecorder too. For this operation refer to the instructions for use of your videorecorder. Moreover, the videorecorder shall be set to record the Audio/ Video channel (scart) which is generally characterised by the abbreviations AU, AV, EURO AV, EXT, AUX, INPUT, INPUT SELECT, 0 etc. or by other graphic symbols according to the videorecorder model. For further details about the connection between the Mediamaster and the Videorecorder refer to the paragraph MEDIAMASTER INSTALLATION of this manual.
Attention: The videorecording of programmes is allowed by the law within the limits of copyrights and patents. The use of videorecords is only allowed for private projections at home.
If you have access to the Records Programming menu for the first time, all 8 events will be available for the automatic start-up.
Use the arrow keys to select the programming number you wish. Press OK to confirm. Y ou may also use the number ed keys on the remote control to type the programming number directly .
Now, you may have access to the screen to set the data of the programming you wish. Use the arrow keys to scroll the following items for the set-up.
Data
Type the day and month in which you wish to power on the Mediamaster.
General information
The Personalizzazione menu is the Mediamasters main menu. Many Mediamaster functions are made available by this menu. Press PERS to access it.

Number of channels
Enter the number of the channel you wish to record. Otherwise press the E key to consult the channels list. Use the arrow keys to select the channel in the list. Press OK to include it into this setting. If the channel you have selected is one of those view-locked (see paragraph Family control code and view lock), you will be required to type the secret code.
Attention: if a channel which is not view-locked is locked when programming is set up, you will be required to type the code at the time of the programmed start-up. If you are not present, the channel may be neither watched nor recorded.
Start time
Enter the time (hour + minutes) at which you wish to power on the Mediamaster (start time of the event to be recorded).
End time
Enter the time (hour + minutes) at which you wish to power off the Mediamaster (end time of the event to be recorded).
Recording frequency
Select whether the programming you are setting up shall occur once, be repeated every day (QUOTIDIANO) or every week (SETTIMANALE). Press OK to confirm the set-up and to go back automatically to the menu with the list of the events which have been set up.
The the events which have been performed are automatically deleted from the list. If you wish to delete a programming before it starts, press the E key. A green window will appear with the message SIETE SICURI DI VOLERLO ELIMINARE? Press 1 to confirm the removal. Press
2 to quit.
Note: The Mediamaster is set up to power on 5 minutes before
the start time and to power off 5 minutes after the end time. If Mediamaster is in standby mode when you start a programming, it will automatically power on. The display will show the REC message. It is impossible to watch another programme while you are recording the programmed channel. Never act on the remote control. Otherwise, all the commands you will execute will influence the recording process.

If the Mediamaster is already on when you start a programming, it will inform you by displaying the PIU message which will flash on and off. Besides displaying the PIU message, it may also produce a BEEP (see paragraph Notice (5) on page 13). Press the + key to gather more information on the screen and to confirm whether to move to the programmed channel or to remain on the channel you are watching.. If the Mediamaster is in standby mode, it will automatically power on. The display will show the REC message.
Attention: The automatic start-up of the Mediamaster might involve the automatic start-up of some TV models if they have been connected by means of a Scart cable and powered off in standby mode (from the remote control). For further information refer to the TV set manual.
Selection of the favourite channels (PERS - 2)
Starting from the list of the channels which have been tuned and stored, you may create the list of your own favourite channels, i.e. of those which are watched the most. Press PERS and 2 to have access to the SCELTA DEI CANALI PREFERITI menu. Use the arrow keys to scroll the channels of the list. Press OK on your favourite channels to assign them the symbol of preference .
Select the channel with the symbol to remove the preference symbol from a channel of the list. Press OK to remove the symbol. Press A to go back to the Customisation menu. Press EXIT to quit. Refer to paragraph PREF key on page 24 to use the PREF function.
Switch-off (stand-by) and switch-on the Mediamaster to save the settings.

Family control code and view lock (PERS - 3)
Use the (secret) family control code to prevent the user from carrying out some operations with the Mediamaster and to acquire its complete and safe control. Those who do not know your secret code can not:
- Purchase and watch P ALCO programmes (Pay Per V iew)
- Extend the subscription profile via modem
- Watch the channels you have locked
Parental code (1)
Press PERS, 3 and 1 to display a green window where to type your family code. Enter the code you wish and press OK. Type it again and press OK to confirm the same code. Press OK again to quit.
Attention: The family code is stored in the smart card. Never enter code 0000. This is the initial code which has been entered into the Smart Card. It can not be used to lock the functions. Remember to write down the secret code. If the secret code is forgotten, only the holder of the subscription can call the Service for TELE+DIGITALE Subscribers and request for its cancellation.
Now , you may automatically enable the lock to:
- Purchase and watch PALCO programmes (Pay Per View)
- Extend the subscription profile via modem
T ype the secret family code to have access to these functions.
Lock or Unlock (2)
Press PERS, 3 and 2 to have access to the BLOCCARE or SBLOCCARE menu. Use the arrow keys to scroll the channels of the list. Move to the channels which shall be locked and press OK.
Now press the B key to close the padlocks, i.e. to activate the lock function. Now, the channels which have been padlocked can only be watched by those who know the secret family code.
Press the B key again to disable the lock function. The padlocks will open, thus enabling the user to watch all the channels without requiring it to enter the secret family code.

To unlock a channel of the list, select the channel with the padlock symbol you wish to remove. Press OK to remove the symbol . Press A to go back to the Customisation menu. Press EXIT to quit. Switch-off (stand-by) and switch-on the Mediamaster to save the settings.
Tuning the channels (PERS 5)
Only after having tuned as described by the pages FIRST INST ALLA TION / TUNING, you may carry out a series of optional operations to further customise the Mediamaster.
Scrolling the list (1)
Now you may use the arrow keys on the remote control to scroll the list (channels list) and check which channels have been tuned, with which sequence and to which position number they correspond.
Moreover, you may immediately find out which channels are included in the list of favourite channels and which channels are padlocked for the view lock. Press OK to start watching the selected channel from here.
Changing the numbering (2)
The channels at the position numbering from 1 to 500 are preset and they can not be changed. The channels at the position numbering from 501 to 999 can be moved inside the list.

ress OK to confirm. The name of the selected channel will turn YELLOW. Use the arrow keys to scroll the list and search for a new position which shall be assigned to the channel selected before. Press OK to display a yellow window. Press 1 or 2 or 3 to define the required position. Y ou may repeat the operation for all the channels from 501 to 999. Switch-off (stand-by) and switch-on the Mediamaster to save the settings.
Adding the channels (3)
Before adding the channels, it is recommended to remove from the list the channels you are not interested in. To do this, refer to the following paragraph To delete the channels (4)”. Now, it is of fundamental importance to set Mediamaster to search for new channels from another satellite. To do this, refer to paragraph Technical parameters (PERS – 7) on page 16.
After having carried out these preliminary operations, press PERS – 5 – 3. A green window will appear . Now you may select whether to add the channels from antenna 1 (Eutelsat) or to add the channels from antenna 2 (Others). After having selected the satellite, press OK to start searching for the channels. For further information refer to paragraph Sintonizzazione de canali (PERS –5) on page 18.
After having tuned / stored the channels, the channels list will appear on the screen. Now you may scroll the channels you have found.

Restarting tuning (5)

Deleting the channels (4)

Your subscription rights (1)
This screen will show all the products to which you are subscribed. The dates show that your smart card is already enabled for the view up to its expiry date.
This operation is required when you wish to search for new channels which are not included in the list. Press PERS – 5 – 5 to display a yellow warning window.
Press OK to start tuning or press A to quit. For further information about tuning refer to paragraph “Tuning the channels (PERS – 5)” on page 18..

Mail Box (2)
When the MESS message is displayed by the Mediamaster, it means that a new mail message has been sent by
TELE+DIGITALE. Access this screen to read the personal
message you have been sent.
Note: After you have accessed this screen, the MESS message will automatically disappear from the Mediamaster display . Use the arrow keys to scroll the text and read it. Press A to go back to the PERS menu. Press EXIT to quit.
Technical parameters (PERS 7)
This menu will include a series of preliminary settings which are described by paragraph Technical parameters (PERS – 7), Antenna Setting (1) on page 16. Besides providing for the set-up, you may also update the software described here below .

Mediamaster update
T o update the Mediamaster , you may download new r eleases of
the system software via satellite from the TELE+DIGITALE
channels. The new software’s may either include new functions or improve the existing ones.
Select a channel of the TELE+DIGITALE bouquet.
Select the RECEIVER UPDATE (PERS – 7 – 2) menu to check whether there is a new software. A yellow window will appear to display the message “Do you want to update the software?” Press OK to confirm. Press A to go back. Press OK to start searching for a new software. The AUTO UPDATE message will appear on the Mediamaster display. The update process will take about 5 minutes. It will occur after having blanked the TV screen. At the end of the update process, Mediamaster will move to the channel you have selected before. If the UPDATE ERROR message should appear on the display some seconds after the update has been started, it means that no new software release is available at that time.
Attention: While updating NEVER act on the keys of the remote control and front panel. NEVER remove the mains plug from the power outlet.
Checking the software release
Select the SOFTWARE RELEASE (PERS – 7 – 3) menu to check the release installed in the Mediamaster. A green window will appear on the screen and show the software release and the manufacturer name. The Update manufacturer and Update software items are not active for this model. Press A to go back or press EXIT to quit.

the GUIDA key and select the Guide to Programmes function (also see paragraph Viewing Mode, Guida Key on page 22). If you activate this function, you may activate other useful subfunctions as well as gather some information about
programming TELE+DIGIT ALE Channels.
All programmes
T o access a screen with the updated programme schedule of the
main TV channels and of all TELE+DIGIT ALE Channels.
Films/Sports/Children/Documentary Films
T o have access to the screen where only the programmes of the required genre are listed.
Other genres
T o have access to a screen with the other updated schedules of the main TV channels and of all TELE
+DIGITALE channels, such
as telefilms, mini serials, magazines, shows, music, special events, other programmes, etc.
Note: These screens will enable you to do as follows: Press the arrow keys to surf in the list of the channels
and in the corresponding programme schedules. Press + to gather more information about the selected event. Press B to filter the search on a specific channel and at a specific time. T o have access to the screen with the list of the events you have selected for powering on the Mediamaster as it has been programmed for recording. These schedules are automatically acquired by the Records programming menu (PERS – 1)..
Note: T wo symbols might be displayed on the screens described above, on the right side of the title of the events.
It means that the event is in progress at that time. It means that the event has been included in the Records programming list.

Purchase of Pay Per View events (PALCO)
Every single programme on PALCO may be easily purchased by using the Mediamaster remote control. T o do this, use an internal modem after having connected it to the phone line and configured according to the instructions as per paragraph “Modem configuration (PERS – 4 – 3)” on page 14. To prevent unauthorised people from purchasing, it is recommended to carry out the VIEW AND PURCHASE LOCK operation, as it has been described on page 28. There are two ways of having access to P ALCO:
- select a PALCO channel, designated by the P letter (e.g. P1, P2,
P3 etc. ...)
- select PALCO from the GUIDA key and pr ess OK to have access to the promotional PALCO channel Press SERV from the PALCO channels to display and surf in the
PALCO offer.
Purchase and View directly from a PALCO channel
They are designated by the P letter inside the channels list of the
PALCO offer (e.g. P1, P2, P3 etc. ...).
The broadcast programme is proposed for purchase on each PALCO channel. It is shown for some minutes on a free basis. The screen turns black at the end of that time. The two-minute view will no longer be available for this programme. Only the information required for the purchase will remain on the screen.
The information is listed here below:
- number of the channel in the list (e.g. 90)
- name of the channel (e.g. P10)
- title of the event
- time elapsed from the start, in minutes
- purchase price
- start and end time of the event
- current time
To watch the programme, just purchase its view and decide whether to watch it now or later.
Just change the channel if you do not wish to purchase the view of the programme.

Purchase it as follows to watch it now or later , but always within its programming time.
Make sure that the Mediamaster is connected to the phone line. Press OK.
If you have entered the view and purchase lock code, you will be required to enter the secret code. In this case enter the secret code and press OK to continue.
The screen about the payment terms is now displayed. Press OK to connect, make the request for the purchase, disconnect and complete the purchase.
The PALCO channel will reappear at the end of this operation, even if the screen might turn black after the two-minute free view. The pr ogramme you have just purchased is being broadcast on this channel.
The cannel will display the screen again with the information about the event you have purchased. Press OK if you wish to WATCH the event you have purchased IMMEDIATELY. Just change the channel if you wish to watch the event you have just purchased later .
Attention: any programme you may purchase will be charged to your account even if it is not watched.

Surfing inside the PALCO programming, selection and purchase of an event
From the channels of the P ALCO offer (e.g. P1, P2, P3 etc...) you may have access to the RPROGRAMMAZIONE IN CORSO menu to display a series of screens where you may get information about the P ALCO programming and about the costs and times of the events, require further information about every single programme, have a look at the situation of ones own purchases or have access to other services.
Select a channel from the PALCO offer (e.g. P1, P2, P3, etc. ). Press SERV to display the ATTUALMENTE IN PROGRAM­MAZIONE menu and the list of the events which are being broadcast on the PALCO channels and of those which will be broadcast in a short time.
From here you may have access to other services. Press 0 to have access to the services described by paragraph Extension of one’s own subscription on page 40.
Selection and purchase of an event
Use the arrow keys to scroll the list. Select a programme which has already started. Press OK to
watch. The Mediamaster will automatically move to the channel where the event you have selected is being broadcast. Now make the purchase as it has been described by the previous paragraph.
Select a programme which has not started yet, but which will be broadcast in a short time. Press OK to purchase. Now make the purchase as it has been described by the previous paragraph. In doing so, you will immediately have access to the view of the reserved programme since the purchase has been made before its start.
P ALCO programming
From the P ALCO CURRENTL Y PROGRAMMED menu press A to have access to the PROGRAMMING menu where you may choose among three possibilities:
Today’ s programming (1) From here you may gather information and purchase the events which have not been broadcast yet, but which will be broadcast during the day.
The week-end proposals (2)
From here you may gather information about the week-end programmes and have the possibility of purchasing them in advance.

Solution
Make sure the supply cable is connected to the power outlet.
Press the standby key or any other numeric key to power on the Mediamaster and disable the standby mode.
Adjust the dish. Check the indicator of the signal level in the TECHNICAL PARAMETERS menu described on page 16.
Check the LNB and other devices connected between the LNB and the receiver or adjust the dish.
Replace the LNB. Adjust the dish.
Connect a signal attenuator to the LNB input.
Install a larger dish. Install an LNB with a lower noise
factor. Replace the LNB.
If the system is connected by SCART cables, switch the TV to the corresponding AV input.
If the system is connected by RF cables, switch the TV to the channel for the digital satellite TV . If you have not manually tuned the TV, do it now. Please follow the instructions in the TV manual.
Arrange an attenuator on the terrestrial antenna cable which has been adjusted on channel 39, connect the system by SCART cables.
Replace the batteries (both of them). Point the remote control to the receiver . Make sure nothing blocks the front panel.
Check that you are using the correct Smart Card. Make sure the Smart Card has been correctly inserted, the golden clip is turned downwards and arranged in the SMART CARD 2 slot.. If the problem persist, it might be a problem concerning the card. Contact your retailer or service provider.
Contact your service provider. They will help you define another one.

SOLUTIONS OF THE PROBLEMS
