About Smart Card and the CA Module
To be able to receive pay-TV channels you will need an CA Module and a Smart Card from the Service Provider of your choice.
The Service Provider is the distributor of the programmes. If you are subscribing to services from more than one Service
Provider, you might have to change between two Smart Cards, or even between two CA Modules.
Please note, that a smart card is connected to a single Service Provider and due to this, a specific range of channels.
It is possible to view "free" channels without the CA Module. After inserting the card, leave it in the slot permanently. Do not
remove it again, unless your Service Provider asks you to do so. This is important, because if your Service Provider wants to download new information to the Mediamaster, the card has to be in the slot.
PIN Code
The card is loaded with a 4-numbered code, also called a PIN code (Personal Identification Number). Normally the PIN code is 1234.
The code is essential for the future extra services offered by the Service Provider .
Information for these services will be described further on in this Manual.

Antenna configuration
In order to configure your equipment (satellite dish and LNB) you will need to use the following menus.
The LNB is the unit that is mounted on the satellite dish. For the following setup procedure you have to know the frequency valid for your LNB(s).
If you have a single satellite dish equipped with 1 LNB:
The line with the alternative “One antenna/LNB for THOR” is highlighted. As this is the most common alternative and you know you are going to watch transmissions from THOR, all you have to do is to press the OK button.
However , if you have another combination, select an alternative from any of the other lines.
Please note that THOR, ASTRA and HOTBIRD all have a preprogrammed channel, which is a great help when you are adjusting the dish towards one of those satellites.
Pressing OK from any of the lines with named satellites will result in the menu to the right coming up on the screen.
The first line will show the name of the satellite. On line “LNB Frequency”, select the frequency alternative that
is valid for your LNB. The alternatives are: “Universal” (which is the most common), “DiSEqC”, “9.750”, “10.000”, “10.050”, “10.750”, “11.200”, “11.475”, “5.150” and also a possibility to enter another alternative with the number buttons on the remote control.
Proceed to headline ”Dish adjustment” on the next page.
Language and Country selection
Select the desired language. This will define the language shown in the menus. It will also select this language as the main language in case more than one is transmitted for talk and subtitling in movies.
If your receiver is equipped with a telephone modem, you will also get a menu from where you must select the Country where the receiver is installed.
The Welcome Menu
To install the Mediamaster properly you have to perform a few settings. You will always be guided by the information in the menus. When you have finished the setup procedure you can start watching TV channels and listen to Radio channels.
Push the button on the remote control to start the Mediamaster from stand-by position. The “Welcome Menu” will now appear on the TV screen. Press the OK button to proceed.
Basic Settings

GB 13
Dish adjustment
The Mediamaster is preprogrammed for receiving signals from THOR (ASTRA and HOTBIRD), and if the dish is already correctly adjusted you should now see a programme from that satellite in the background. If not, or if the picture/sound is not satisfying, you have to adjust the dish to improve the reception quality . Check the signal strength meter at the lower part in this menu. Adjust the dish mechanically to get the best possible signal strength.
When you have made the necessary settings for your combination and have picture and sound, you may now proceed to “Channel Search” (= download channels from the satellite) by pressing the OK button.
If you have a single satellite dish equipped with 2 LNBs; or two dishes with one LNB on each:
The Mediamaster is preprogrammed for the LNB combination ASTRA/HOTBIRD. It is also preprogrammed for the connection of an external switch. This external switch should be either;
1 A so called DiSEqC
TM
swich (Level 1 or 2 type), or;
2 A 0/12 V switch.
Both of these automatically switch between two LNBs, but there is one big difference between them.
The DiSEqC switch can be located close to the LNBs, which means you have only one cable down to the Mediamaster .
The 0/12 V switch must be located close to the Mediamaster, which means you will have two cables, one from each LNB, all the way down to the Mediamaster .
If you have made the selection ASTRA/HOTBIRD from this menu, you must connect one of those switches.
In the menu that appears when you have select the combination ASTRA/HOTBIRD, you have to make two settings:
1 Select ASTRA on the first line and your LNB type for this
satellite on the second.
2 Select HOTBIRD on the first line and your LNB type for this
satellite on the second.
When you perform the dish adjustment described below, don’t forget to alter between ASTRA and HOTBIRD in this menu.
If your dish/LNB configuration differs from the alternatives above (= you have to select “One antenna/LNB for any other satellite” or “Multiantenna/LNBs for multiple Satellite positions”), please proceed to “Antenna Configuration Set-Up” further on in this manual.

Channel Search
From the Channel Search menu the Mediamaster will automatically search for TV and Radio channels digitally transmitted from the satellite which your dish is aimed at. The search will be performed in a predetermined way, and all channels found will be listed in two columns on the screen.
TV channels will be listed in one column, Radio channels in the other. Please note, that the search procedure may take a few minutes.
When the search procedure is finished the indication “Ready. To watch TV press OK” will appear in the bottom part of the menu. When you press OK a new menu superimposed upon the TV picture appears, where you have the opportunity to adjust the clock. This is done with the UP/DOWN buttons, ±1/2 an hour at the time. After that, the Mediamaster will automatically keep the right time.
Now you are ready to watch TV . Please proceed to “Viewing TV” in this Manual.

Phone Modem
The Mediamaster has a built-in Phone Modem. The connection of the modem to the ordinary telephone plug is required for access to future on-line services such as Near Video on Demand and Pay per View .
For the full functionality of your subscription we recommend that you do not disconnect the phone plug.
Since digital broadcasting will evolve and diversify, we might in the near future receive applications which need to be paid for , or perhaps to be rented for just one day. Communicating your requests therefore becomes a natural part of your daily use of the Mediamaster .
Examples of such services are:
On line services
Depending on your Service Provider you may perform electronic transactions such as Home Shopping or banking via your Mediamaster .
Pay Per View (PPV)
You can get access to PPV programmes by using your Smart Card. Your credit and the actual price will be displayed on the screen before you decide to pay.
Near Video On Demand (NVOD)
It is like having the cinema at home. It makes it possible to order and watch movies distributed by your Service Provider at times convenient to you.

Glossary of terms
MPEG Moving Picture Experts Group. A system for
compression of digital data. NVOD Near Video On Demand. System for ordering pro-
grammes.
PID Package Identifier . PIN code Personal Identification Number.
A four-digit code that is used for locking/unlocking, e.g. with the parental control feature. Default value is normally 0000 or 1234.
Satellite dish A dish-shaped antenna (reflector) to receive signals from a satellite. The dish focuses the signals on the LNB.
Parental control A feature that allows parents to "lock" programmes that they concider unsuitable for children. A "locked" programme can only be "unlocked" with the special secret code (PIN code).
Polarisation Polarisation allows several programmes to be fitted into the same frequency band. The signals from a satellite are transmitted either with linear (vertical or horizontal) polarisation or circular (right or left) polarisation.
PPV Pay Per View RF Radio frequency (known as HF in some coun-
tries).
RS 232 Serial data port SCSI High speed data interface. A special connector
for e.g. a CD-ROM player . SCART A connector used for connection of e.g.
Mediamasters, video recorders and TV sets. Also named Euroconnector or Peritel connector .
Symbol rate Size of the digital package transmission. TS Transport Stream. No TS indication on the display
means that there is no signal in to the Mediamaster .
VCR V ideo Cassette Recorder.
Access Authorisation to use the coding system to
purshase/order TV programmes. Audio system With digital satellite reception, the
sound is transmitted in packages and is selected either in a special audio mode or pre-selected by using installation set-up. This gives the opportunity to select between several different languages to a movie. Amount of choices is dependent on what is available in the signal.
CA Conditional Access Coded satellite TV programme
Some satellite TV programmes (P AY TV) are transmitted in encoded form. A CA module and a Smart Card is needed to view such programmes.
DVB Digital Video Broadcast EPG Electronic Programming Guide. Programme in-
formation shown on the TV screen. FEC Forward Error Correction. System for correction
of bit-errors which can occur during a transmission. GHz Abbreviation for GigaHertz. The prefix Giga
means billion, and Hertz means cycles per second. Signals in the GHz range are often called microwaves.
IPPV Impulse Pay-Per-View. System for, via the built in phone modem, quick ordering of some special programmes e. g. movies and sport.
LNB (low-noise block converter) or LNBF
The LNB is an electronic unit mounted on the satellite dish. It receives the signals reflected by the dish and converts them to signals that can be used by the Mediamaster.
L.O. Local Oscillator. Part of the LNB. It converts the satellite frequency to a usable signal for the Mediamaster.
Mediamaster The unit that converts the digital satellite signals from the LNB into audio and video signals. The audio and video signal will be sent to the TV set via SCART.
