INSTALLATION OF THE BATTERY PACK
WARNING!
Use extreme caution when working with batteries. Sulfuric acid in batteries can cause severe injury if allowed to contact the skin or eyes. Explosive hydrogen gas is vented from inside the batteries through openings in the battery caps. This gas can be ignited by any arc, spark or flame.
WHEN SERVICING BATTERIES...
Remove all jewelry
Do not smoke
Wear safety glasses
Work in a well-ventilated area
Do not allow tools to touch more than one battery terminal at a time
CAUTION!
Acid can spill onto the floor if the batteries are overfilled.
To avoid damage to floor surfaces, wipe water and acid from the top of the batteries after charging. Electrical components in this machine can be severely damaged if the batteries are not installed and connected properly. Batteries should be installed by your local Nilfisk-Advance Distributor or by a qualified electrician.
NEW BATTERY PACK SET-UP
1 See Figure 1. Pull the Battery Tray (A) and the Battery Box (B) out of the machine chassis and center the assembly on a pallet jack with the side rails
of the Battery Box (B) parallel to the pallet jack forks. IMPORTANT: The Battery Box (B) must be on the pallet jack before placing the batteries in the Battery Tray, or you will not be able to get a pallet jack under the Battery Box. NOTE: A 27" (68 cm) or narrower pallet jack is required, a pallet jack any wider will not work!
2 Place the batteries into the Battery Tray and connect the Battery Cables (C) as shown. Connect the Connector Assembly (D) as shown (black cable to
negative terminal / red cable to positive terminal).
3 Install the Battery Post Boots (E). Secure tightly to battery cables with supplied tie straps. 4 Raise the jack until the battery box will clear the side rails in the chassis and then roll the battery box into the battery compartment until it contacts the other
side of the chassis and then lower it onto the side rails in the chassis.
5 Connect the Battery Pack Connection (7). Open the Battery / Controller Compartment Cover (21) to provide proper ventilation. 6 Push the connector from the charger into the Machine Battery Charger Port (16). INSTALLATION OF THE BURNISHING PAD
WARNING!
Disconnect the machines Battery Pack Connection (7) by pushing in the red knob on Emergency Power Disconnect (10), when ever servicing the machine.
1 Place your hand underneath the pad motor Dust Control Shroud (2) and
remove the Pad Retainer (4) from the flexible pad holder assembly. NOTE: Grip the retainer firmly and turn clockwise (to the right) as the retainer uses a Left Hand thread.
2 Select a 27 inch (68 cm) Dia. burnishing pad. See your local Nilfisk-
Advance Distributor for a complete selection of pads and accessories.
3 Insert the plastic Pad Retainer (4) into the center of the pad. Then
reinstall by turning the retainer Counter clockwise (to the left). NOTE: Important !!! Turn the retainer in until you hear a clicking ratchet sound, this insures proper tightening of the pad by properly compressing the pad material and drawing up the retainer so it will not strike the floor.
INSTALLATION OF THE DUST COLLECTION BAG
The WHIRLAMATIC 2700 / BHS 7014 uses dust collection bag PN 56391185 (sold 6 to a Pkg.).
Unfold the Dust Collection Bag (5) and while holding onto the card board retainer insert it over the collection tube found on the top of the Pad Motor Deck (1).
NOTE: Never operate the WHIRLAMATIC 2700 / BHS 7014 with out a Dust Collection Bag (5) installed. Failure to do so will allow the burnishing dust to become airborne.
BEFORE EACH USE:
1 Be sure you understand the operator controls and their function. 2 Turn the Main Power Switch (24) ON (l) and check the Battery Condition
Indicator (31). If red light comes on, recharge the battery pack before using the machine
3 Check the Brake Foot Pedal (14) for proper operation. 4 Check that a new or clean pad has been installed. 5 Check that a Dust Collection Bag (5) is installed.
PLAN YOUR FLOOR BURNISHING:
1 Pre-sweep or scrub floor area of debris to prevent scratching and poor
burnishing performance.
2 Arrange long runs with a minimum of stopping or starting. 3 Avoid bumping into posts or scraping the side of the machine.
OPERATING THE MACHINE
NOTE: Bold numbers in parentheses indicate an item shown on pages A-4 –
A-5. Follow the instructions in preparing the machine for use and the pre-operational
check list section of the manual.
1 While seated on the machine adjust the Seat (15) and the Steering
Wheel (11) using the Adjustment Controls (23) and (9), to a comfortable operating position.
2 Turn the Main Power Switch (24) ON (l). This will display the Main
Power Ind. Light (25), Battery Condition Indicator Light(s) (31) and Hourmeter (26).
3 Release the Parking Brake Set / Release Lever (13) by pushing the
Brake Foot Pedal (14). To transport the machine to the work area, apply even pressure on the front of the FWD / REV Drive Pedal (8) to go Forward or the rear of the pedal for Reverse.
4 When at the work area press the machine’s FWD / REV Drive Pedal (8)
to move the machine in either FWD or REV drive. The machine should always be moving before lowering the Pad Motor Deck.
5 Once the machine is moving, lower the Pad Motor Deck (1) by pressing
the Pad Lift Raise / Lower Switch (33) to the right. The Pad Down Ind. Light (32) on the control panel will light yellow when going down and then turns green to confirm the lowered position and the pad begins to turn. To raise the pad motor press the Pad Lift Raise / Lower Switch (33) to the left. The Pad Up Ind. Light (34) will be red when coming up and then turns green to confirm the raised position. NOTE: When the operator’s foot is removed, the drive pedal automatically returns to neutral and the pad motor will shut off after 1.5 sec (the Pad Down Ind. Light (32) will light yellow). Raise the Pad Motor Deck before stopping the machine. The floor may be damaged if the machine is stopped with the pad down and running.
6 Begin burnishing making long straight line passes, overlap each pass
2-3 inches (5-7 cm). Adjust your machine speed according to the condition of the floor (if the floor is heavily scuffed, drive at a slower rate to ensure proper burnishing).
CAUTION!
The floor may be damaged if travel of the machine is stopped with the pad down and running.
7 It may become necessary when burnishing to stop the machine, raise
the pad and check to see if the pad is loaded up with floor finish and dirt. If it is, turn the pad over to expose the clean side, or install a clean pad.
