Thank you for purchasing the Niles ZR-4 Series 2 MultiZone Receiver Kit. With
proper installation and operation, you should enjoy years of trouble-free use. The
ZR-4 Series 2 MultiZone Receiver Kit is a four-source, four-zone distributed audio
system that provides easy access to a world of entertainment throughout your home

Receiver. Up to four audio sources
can be enjoyed in up to four different
areas (zones) of the home
■ Built-In AM/FM Tuner. Listening to
your favorite radio stations doesn’t
require any additional components

wall-mounted keypads can even
be installed in moist areas such as

USING YOUR ZR-4 SYSTEM
BASIC OPERATION USING A KEYPAD
1. Press a Master Key to the turn on the selected
source
2. Press the Vol V Key to raise the zone volume,
or the Vol V Key to lower the zone volume.
3. Press the Mute Key to mute the volume in the
zone. To restore the volume, press the Mute,
Vol V, Vol V , or any Master Key.
PLAYING THE RADIO
USING A KEYPAD
1. Press the top left Master Key on a Keypad
(labeled either TUNER or MUSIC). The zone
will turn on and play the last selected radio
station.
2. To change the radio station, press the top
left Master Key again. Pressing this key scans
through the preset stations.

1. Press the AM/FM Key located on the top left
of the remote control. The zone will turn on and
play the last selected radio station.
2. To change the radio station, press the AM/FM
Key again. Pressing this key scans through the

PLAYING OTHER MUSIC SOURCES (2 THROUGH 4)
USING A KEYPAD OR REMOTE CONTROL
1. Press the Master Key (or Source Select Key) labeled for the source
you want to hear (for example, CD). In some installations, the
source will turn on and play. In other installations, the Remote
Control is needed to turn the source on and begin play.
PARTY MODE USING A KEYPAD
1. Press-and-hold any Master Key for three seconds to initiate the
Party Mode. The Party Mode turns on all enabled zones to the
selected music source at the factory-preset volume level of 25. If
the zone is already on, the volume level will not change. Volume
control, bass and treble remain independent in each zone.
TURNING THE SYSTEM OFF USING A KEYPAD
1. Press the Off Key to turn off the zone.
2. Press-and-hold the Off Key for more than three seconds
to turn off ALL zones.

SETTING RADIO PRESET STATIONS
1. Radio stations are preset from the front panel of the ZR-4 Series 2 MultiZone Receiver. 20
presets are available in any combination of AM and FM.
2. Make sure the Main Power Switch is on. It illuminates when the power is on.
3. Press the Band Button to select AM or FM. The LCD Display indicates AM or FM, the station
frequency number, and a Preset Number if the station is already in the memory.
4. Press the + or – Buttons to tune in the desired station. When the desired station is displayed,
press-and-hold the Set Button for two seconds. The LCD Display will show Preset XX Save (XX
being the preset station number to be saved).

4. Press the + or – Buttons until the desired preset station location is displayed.
5. Press-and-hold the Set Button for two seconds to save the station in the selected preset
location. The ZR-4 Series 2 will return to normal operation.
6. Repeat steps until all desired stations are saved.
7. Preset stations can be erased by overwriting an existing preset with a new station
ADJUSTING THE BASS
Tone adjustments are made from a keypad. A music source should be playing.
1. Press-and-hold the Mute Key and the Bottom Right Master Key simultaneously for five seconds.
The Bottom Right Master Key will blink.
2. Press the Vol V Key to increase the bass. Press the Vol V Key to decrease the bass.
3. To save your changes and return to normal operation, press-and-hold the Mute Key and the
Bottom Right Master Key simultaneously for five seconds, then release.
ADJUSTING THE TREBLE
Tone adjustments are made from a keypad. A music source should be playing.
1. Press-and-hold the Mute Key and the Bottom Left Master Key simultaneously for five seconds.
The Bottom Left Master Key will blink.
2. Press the Vol V Key to increase the treble. Press the Vol V Key to decrease the treble.
3. To save your changes and return to normal operation, press-and-hold the Mute Key and the
Bottom Left Master Key simultaneously for five seconds, then release.
TURNING THE VARIABLE LOUDNESS ON AND OFF
Variable loudness adjustments are made from a keypad. The factory setting is ‘on.”
1. Press-and-hold the Mute Key and the Top Left Master Key simultaneously for five seconds. The
Top Left Master Key will blink.
2. Press the Vol V Key to turn the variable loudness on. Press the Vol V Key to turn the variable
loudness off.
3. To save your changes and return to normal operation, press-and-hold the Mute Key and the
Top Left Master Key simultaneously for five seconds, then release.
