SCW-2
Wall-Mounted, Volume Control
for Speakers and Headphones
INTRODUCTION
The Niles SCW-2 is a wall-mounted stereo volume control for remote
speakers and headphones. The unit is ideal for both home and commercial sound installations. A ten position rotary switch controls the volume
of the system. Use of an auto transformer instead of an L-Pad assures minimal internal power dissipation with virtually no power wasted as heat. A
front panel headphone jack and a speaker/headphone selector switch are
provided.

HOOKUP & OPERATION:
(refer to the diagram on the next page for details)
1. Connect the RED AND BLACK wires which are attached to the Volume
Control circuit board to the amplifier (right channel). Be sure to connect the
RED wire to the positive (+) amplifier connection and the BLACK wire to the
negative (-) amplifier connection. Twist-on wire nuts are provided to simplify
hookup.
2. Connect the WHITE AND BLACK wires which are attached to the Volume
Control circuit board to the amplifier (left channel). Be sure to connect the
WHITE wire to the positive (+) amplifier connection and the BLACK wire to
the negative (-) amplifier connection.
3. Connect the RED wire coming from the slide switch terminal to the positive
(+) terminal of the right channel speaker. Connect the free end of EITHER
BLACK wire coming from the headphone jack ground terminal to the negative (-) terminal of the right channel speaker.
4. Connect the WHITE wire coming from the slide switch terminal to the positive (+) terminal of the left channel speaker. Connect the BLACK wire to the
negative (-) terminal of the left channel speaker.
The SCW-2 may be used with 4, 6, or 8 Ohm loudspeakers.
Operation is straightforward. To listen to the loudspeakers, simply slide the
switch to its center position and adjust the volume up or down by rotating the
volume control knob. To listen to headphones, slide the switch all the way to
the right and insert the headphone plug into the front panel jack. Again, adjust
the volume for a comfortable listening level. With the slide in the off (full left)
position, neither speakers nor headphone are operative.
NOTE: The SCW-2 is a common ground device. Do not attempt to use it with
bridged amplifiers or other amplifiers that require separate left and right channel ground returns. If you are unsure whether your amplifier requires separate
left and right channel ground returns, consult the manufacturer.
