Your Nike Typhoon watersport watch is engineered to meet the specific
performance demands of the open water athlete. Using our unique harmonic
algorithm, the Typhoon watch provides tidal prediction accuracy not found
in other standard tide watches. It offers quick, one-touch access to a variety
of critical information during training and in competition.
The Typhoon was designed to work just the way you think it should.
This manual combines step-by-step operational instructions to help
you identify the programmable features and functions of each mode.

MODES
To select a mode
Press the MODE button repeatedly until the desired mode (TIME, TIDE, BEACH, CHRONO,
TIMER or ALARM) appears. Release button, in 1.5 seconds the selected mode is displayed.

3 Press the TIME ZONE/SELECT button to advance to the next
programmable element.
The second designator blinks.
4 Press the START/STOP button.
Under thirty seconds the value resets to zero. If over thirty
seconds, minutes advance.
5 Press the TIME ZONE/SELECT button to advance to next
programmable element.
The minutes begin blinking.
6 Press the START/STOP button to advance the blinking element.
Press once to advance one minute. Hold down for quick
advance.
7 Repeat steps 2 through 4 until you have properly set all
elements: D.S.T., seconds, minutes, hours, day, month, year,
24 or 12-hour clock, and day/date or month/date display.

To set time and calendar information
1 In TIME mode, press and hold the ADJUST button.
D.S.T. (Daylight Saving Time) is displayed. Note that the
adjustable element is always blinking. If no buttons are
pressed for 2-3 minutes the watch will exit ADJUST and
return to TIME mode.
2 Press the START/STOP button.
The display will alternate between ON and – – (off).
If Daylight Saving Time is in effect select ON.

In TIME mode, you can set and view the
time and calendar information for two
time zones.
You can also set a confirmation tone
which sounds at the press of any
button. To easily distinguish the
TIME mode, this tone is different
than the tone for other modes.

To determine which beach is active
In TIME mode press the BEACH NAME button. The active
beach is displayed for 2-3 seconds or scrolls three times
if it is too long to fit on the screen. (see BEACH mode)

8 Press the ADJUST button to save changes.
Time is set and no elements are blinking. Note that time
of day is displayed in CHRONO, TIMER and BEACH modes.
To change time zones
1 In TIME mode, press and hold the TIME ZONE/SELECT button
for three seconds.
The alternate time zone time-of-day information appears.
2 Release the button when time zone indicator stops flashing.
Hold the TIME ZONE/SELECT button for less than 3 seconds
for brief view of alternate time zone information.
3 Follow the preceding instructions to set the time
and calendar information for the alternate time zone.
To turn on and off the confirmation sound
In TIME mode, press START/STOP.
When the symbol is showing a tone will sound at the
press of any button. Note that the confirmation tone does
not sound in ADJUST mode.

TIDE
When TIDE mode is selected the display
automatically shows the first high or low
tide for the present day. There are several
other ways to access tide information for
the active beach.
You can determine:
1 The state of tides for a particular time.
2 The state of tides for the next day or
any subsequent day.
3 The high tides and low tides for a
particular day.
4 The next spring tide.
To determine the present state of the tides
In any mode other than TIDE mode the graphic display
at the base of the screen shows the current state of the
tides for the active beach.

Tide functions are divided into two parts, BEACH mode, and TIDE mode.
Use BEACH mode to select 3 favorite beaches from 180 that are programmed
into the Nike Typhoon watch. You have quick, easy access to detailed tide
information for any one of these three beaches.
Use TIDE mode to get detailed tidal information for one of the three beaches
you selected in BEACH mode.
Reading the graphic tide display
The visual tide display is similar to the display found in many
published tide charts. The darkened portion of the display represents
the water level. The tide progresses from left to right.
If the tide is going out the display will show a gradually decreasing
water level. When the display shows the water level at its lowest
point there is a low tide.
From left to right, a gradually increasing water level means the tide
is coming in. When the display shows the water level at its highest
point there is a high tide.

To determine the tides for a particular time
1 In TIDE mode, press and hold the ADJUST button.
The hour designator blinks. Note that the adjustable
element is always blinking.
2 Press START/STOP button.
The hours advance. Hold down for quick advance.
3 Press TIME ZONE/SELECT button to advance to next
programmable element.
The minutes begin blinking.
4 Press START/STOP button to advance the minutes.
Press once to advance one minute.
Hold down for quick advance.
Repeat steps 2 and 4 until you have properly set the time.

To determine a day’s high and low tides
1 In TIDE mode press TIME ZONE/SELECT.
The next high or low tide is displayed. There are usually two
high tides and two low tides each day. After pressing TIME
ZONE/SELECT four times the display repeats the tide times
beginning with the first of the day.
To determine the tides for the next day or subsequent days
1 In TIDE mode press START/STOP.
The day advances one day for each time the button
is pressed.
Hold START/STOP for quick advance.
The day advances and the watch displays the time
of the first high or low tide for that day.
To return to the current day
Press and hold the BEACH NAME/RESET button.
This function can be used with the above tide function
to determine the high and low tides on a particular day
in the future.

To determine the spring tides
Note: There are usually two days when “spring tides” occur each month.
Spring tides have the greatest range, with higher highs and lower lows
than other tides during the month. For water lovers, that can mean good
waves as high tide comes in. For beachcombers it means access to
sections of beach normally under water.
In TIDE mode, press BEACH NAME/RESET.
The day on which the next spring tides occur is calculated
and the first high or low tide of the day displayed. “Spring”
will appear to indicate that this is the day of spring tides.
Follow the directions above for determining high and low
tides for the day of the spring tides.
Next spring tides can be calculated from future dates by
following directions for determining tides for subsequent
days above.
To return to the current day, press and hold the BEACH
NAME/RESET button.

Press ADJUST and the Typhoon watch will calculate the
tides for the selected time on the day displayed at the
top of the display.
5 As with the following functions, by using the two above
functions in unison it is possible to determine the tides on
a future day at a particular time. For example, in TIDE mode
select a particular day as described in step one. Then, follow
directions for determining the tides at a particular time.
The Typhoon watch will calculate the tides for the selected
time on the date displayed at the top.

The ADJUST functions in BEACH mode affect only the active
beach. See below.
To recall the active beach
In BEACH mode, press BEACH NAME/RESET to recall the active
beach name.
To select three favorite beaches
1 In BEACH mode, press and hold the ADJUST button.
A geographical region name appears at the top. The name
will scroll three times if it is too long to fit on the screen.
2 Press START/STOP to move forward through the list
of regions.
3 Press BEACH NAME/RESET to move backwards through
the list of regions.

In BEACH mode, select three favorite
beaches from the list of 180 preset beaches.
Of these three beaches, select one active
beach. Detailed tide information always
applies to this active beach.
Beaches are listed in latitudinal
order, so that all local
beaches will be grouped together.
To select the active beach
Tide information for the active beach is displayed on
the graphic tide display in all modes.
In BEACH mode press TIME ZONE/SELECT.
With each press of the button one of three favorite
beaches will be displayed with any custom beach data
(see below).
The beach displayed is the active beach. Detailed tide
information is available for this beach only.
Note that in TIME mode, pressing BEACH NAME/RESET
displays the active beach.

8 Press ADJUST to save beach selection and customize settings.
Set a new active beach by pressing TIME ZONE/SELECT.
Adjust by following steps 2 through 7.
To set a custom beach
The watch’s harmonic algorithm is designed so that if
your personal surf-spot is not represented, it is probably
close to one that is. You can customize a preloaded beach
to show tide information for an unlisted beach if the two
are near each other. You must know the time difference
between the high tide at your favorite beach and the
high tide (for the same day) of the nearest beach in
the watch’s memory. Consult local tide tables for tide
data on beaches not listed.
1 In BEACH mode press ADJUST and follow the steps
above for selecting a beach.
Select the beach that is geographically closest to
your surf spot.
The display reads T-DIFF (time difference). Below is a
number representing the time difference between the
actual high tide of your beach and the high tide of the
one programmed into memory.

4 Press TIME ZONE/SELECT to select the region containing
one of your favorite beaches.
The first beach name within the selected region appears
at the top. Beaches are arranged alphabetically.
5 Press START/STOP to move forward through the list of
beaches. You can hold the button for quick scan.
6 Press BEACH NAME/RESET to move backwards through
the list of beaches.
7 Press TIME ZONE/SELECT to select the beach.
The display reads T-DIFF (time difference). Adjusting this
element allows you to customize beach data for a beach
not listed. If there is no need to customize the beach data,
leave it at zero. You will need to familiarize yourself with
the workings of the Typhoon watch before making
adjustments for a custom beach.

CHRONOGRAPH
In CHRONOGRAPH mode, you can
monitor split and total elapsed time
in 1/100th of a second increments.
The maximum time measurement
is ten hours.
Split time refers to the amount
of time it takes to complete one
portion of a run.
To start measuring elapsed time
Press START/STOP button.
Time measurement begins with 1/100 seconds, then
seconds, then minutes. If the accumulated times
proceeds to hours, the elapsed hours appear above
the minutes:seconds display.
To check split time during time measurement
Press TIME ZONE/SELECT button.
Split time will be displayed for seven seconds,
as time measurement continues uninterrupted.

2 If the actual high tide at your favorite beach occurs 20
minutes before the one listed, you should enter -20.
If it occurs 20 minutes after, enter (+) 20. The maximum time
difference allowed is ± 99 minutes.
3 Press START/STOP to forward the number and BEACH
NAME/RESET to reverse it.
Hold button for quick scan.
4 Press ADJUST to save beach selection and customized settings.
Example
On vacation in Baja California you discover a beach near San Jose
with perfect surf and no tourists. To customize the Nike Typhoon
watch you’ll need to find local tide tables for the coast near San
Jose. Check the local newspaper or a marine supply shop. You also
need to know the closest beach represented on your Nike Typhoon
watch; it is Cabo San Lucas.
If the paper lists a high tide on February 13 at 4:20 PM, and your
Typhoon watch says the high tide at Cabo San Lucas is at 4:00 PM
(see TIDE mode), you’ll need to set a +20 minute time difference
for the Typhoon to accurately predict the tides.

TIMER
The TIMER mode provides five
programmable countdown timers.
It is programmable in one second
increments from a minimum of 5
seconds up to 9:59’59”. An audible
three second alert will signal the
end of each countdown. A different
tone sounds for five seconds as the
full function chronograph begins
counting up from zero.
To set one of five timers
1 Press and hold ADJUST button for two seconds.
The seconds designator flashes.
2 Press START/STOP button to change the flashing value.

To stop measuring elapsed time
Press START/STOP button.
Total elapsed time will be displayed.
To measure additional time increments
Press START/STOP button.
Time measurement restarts.
To reset the chronograph
1 Chronograph must be stopped to reset. Press START/STOP
button to stop the chronograph.
2 Then press BEACH NAME/RESET button.
Chronograph resets to 0:00’00”00.

To pause the timer
Press START/STOP button during countdown.
To restart timer
Press START/STOP button.
Countdown continues.
To reset timer
1 Timer must be paused to reset. Pause timer by pressing the
START/STOP button.
2 Then press the BEACH NAME/RESET button. Timer resets.
To set a different timer
In TIMER mode press the TIME ZONE/SELECT button
to select one of five timers.
Follow the preceding directions to set the timer

Timer is set and ready for operation.

4. Press ADJUST to save settings and activate alarm.
To set alarm 2
Press TIME ZONE/SELECT. ALARM 2 is displayed.
Follow the preceding instructions to set Alarm 2.
To turn alarm ON/OFF
Press START/STOP button while in desired ALARM mode.
Alarm display will alternate between “on” and – – (off).
When an alarm is “on” the display shows the symbol.
To deactivate a sounding alarm
Press any button.

ALARM
In ALARM mode you can set two
distinct alarms that will sound
intermittently for 55 seconds, or
until any button is pressed. The
alarm sounds for fifteen seconds,
then pauses for ten. Then it rings
for ten seconds, pauses for ten
seconds, and rings for ten more
seconds. For the last five seconds
Nike Electrolite display will flash
in unison.
To set alarm 1
1 Press and hold ADJUST button for two seconds.
Hour designator flashes.
2 Press START/STOP button to change the flashing value.
Hold for quick advance.
3 Repeat this process to set the minute and determine
which time zone the alarm refers to.

Note that the auto-electrolite display will not function
in ADJUST mode.
To deactivate the auto-Electrolite display
Press and hold the LIGHT button for three seconds.
The symbol will disappear.
Note: Use this function only as needed. To conserve
battery life, the auto-Electrolite display will turn itself
off after about 12 hours.

NIKE ELECTROLITE DISPLAY
Nike Electrolite display enables one
touch backlighting for instant roundthe-clock readability. You can also
facilitate night use by setting the
Electrolite display to automatically
activate at the press of any button.
To illuminate the display
Press the LIGHT button.
The Electrolite display will illuminate for three seconds.
To activate the auto-Electrolite display
In any mode press and hold the LIGHT button for
three seconds.
The symbol appears. When auto-Electrolite display
is activated the display will illuminate for two seconds
at the press of any button.

One Year Limited Warranty
Your NIKE watch is warranted to be free of defects in materials or workmanship, under
normal use, for a period of one year from the date of original retail purchase. This
limited warranty excludes the battery, crystal, strap, or damage resulting from improper
care or handling, accidents, modification, unauthorized repairs, or normal wear.
Return the defective watch and the store receipt to the place of purchase. If there is
a covered defect, the defective parts or watch will be repaired or replaced, at Nike’s
option, with the same product (if available) or a similar product of equal price.
This limited warranty is in lieu of all other express or implied warranties, and excludes
refund of the purchase price. In no event shall NIKE be liable for direct, indirect,
incidental, or consequential damages arising out of the use of the watch, and any
