1 Preface
The enclosed instructions review the transportation, storage, assembly, usage and maintenance of Kuma worm speed reducers, etc.
2 Safety Notes
Please read the instructions carefully before operation of the gearbox and present the instructions to the user for proper usage and care.
Following the instructions in the manual is a prerequisite for the trouble-free operation and long operating life, which also helps avoid
personnel injury and property loss.
Whenever the worm gear reducer has any abnormal phenomena (like temperature increasing, noise level, vibration in an improper level)
during the operation, please urgently stop the reducer and check the cause. The machine should stop operation until the cause is determined and the conditions are eliminated. Please consult our service department if you have any questions.
3 Transportation
Once you received the shipment, please inspect items. In case any damage occurred, please don’t use the product and inform the trans-
port company immediately.
Before mounting the reducers, please tighten the eyebolt which is selected according to the weight of reducers and can’t bear additional
weight. If there is additional load, please select proper device to move the reducer.
Please remove all transportation  xtures prior to startup of reducers.
4 Installation
4.1 Installation Notes
Check if the data on nameplate conforms to the operating requirement on site.
- Environment requirements for standard speed reducer:
- Ambient temperature:-10°C---40°C
- No oil, acid, smoke, noxious gas and radiation.
Check the mounting position, the rotation direction and the shaft direction are correct.
The base-plate must be  at and secure, and the base-bolts must be screwed down and shockproof.
The shafts of prime mover, reducer and operation device must be coaxial after installation.
The diameter tolerance of input and output shaft is h6. The bolt hole (such as couplings, belt-pulley, sprocket wheel and so on) must
properly mate with the shaft, and this prevents the bearing from breakage due to being over-tightened and avoids poor power transmission due to a loose connection.
Installation Tolerances(as follows)
Shaft End Flange
Diameter tolerance
• ISO h6 (ISO h6 for solid shafts)
• ISO E8 (ISO E8 for input hollow shafts)
• ISO F8 (ISOE8 ISO E8 for output hollow shafts)
• The input, output shafts, and  anges receive an anti-corrosion coating before shipping. Please clean the output shafts and  ange surfaces thoroughly to ensure they are free from anti corrosion agents, contamination or grease using a commercially available solvent. Do not let the solvent come into contact with the seals in order to prevent damage to the material.
Register diameter shoulder tolerance
• ISO F7
• Be sure that worm reducer had been  lled with lubricant according to the following provisions before startup:
- Kuma series worm reducers are  lled with lubricant in our factory. Please check if the oil level conform to the speci cation prior to running for the model Kuma 110 to 150 frame. In case of any deviation for the oil level, please adjust to the proper oil level. For lubricants and capacity, Please refer to the appendix” table 5 and table 8”.
• Drives such as sprocket wheel and gear must be  tted closely to the bearing in order to reduce bending stress of a no o set load. Please refer to chart 1:

NOTE:
STOP
• Never use hammer to hit the belt pulleys, couplings, pinions, etc. onto the shaft end. It will damage the bearing, housing and the shaft.
• It may be easier to assemble, if you  rst apply lubricant to the output element or heat it up brie y ( to 80 —100° C )
• In the case of belt pulleys, make sure that the belt is tensioned correctly in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
• Power transmission elements should be balanced after  tting to prevent excessive radial and axial forces.
• While mounting the motor to the reducer with the motor adapter or mounting the shaft into hollow bore it is necessary that a proper amount of lubricant is applied to the worm shaft input hole, motor shaft, driving hollow shaft and driven shaft.
• For  ange mount con guration,  ange should be assembled correctly to avoid distortions.
• For torque arm mounting, the driving hollow shaft and the driven shaft should be  tted correctly. The torque arm
should be  xed and locked tightly.
• When a sprocket, sheave, pulley or gear is attached to the output shaft, mount the hub away from the body of the reducer to avoid excessive overhung load. See Figure B in chart 1.

5 Usage
• Don’t drive the reducer with large excessive moments of inertia which could exert a large back driving load on the worm reducer.
• Before use, please check and make sure that the reducer center of distance, ratio, shaft connections, output shaft structure, input and output shaft direction and rotating direction are correct according to requirements. Input speeds of the worm shaft should be less than 2000 rpm. The general speeds range is 600-1800 rpm.
• Make sure that worm reducer has the proper amount of lubricant before startup.
• The load should be added incrementally when using the machine. Never run it with full load at start-up.
• When the ambient temperature is 5°C above or below the normal level stated in the table, please contact us.
• When abnormal circumstances occur, please stop and check the reducer against the ”Malfunctions” table 3. (Allowable maximum operation oil temperature is 95°C.
• Please active the air vent or the breather valve as following steps before startup.
a) Activating an air vent with cone plug
1. Air vent with cone plug before starting operation
1. 2.
2. Remove the cone plug when starting operation
Chart 4
b) Activating the breather valve
1. Breather valve with  xture before starting operation
2. Remove the  xture from the breather valve when starting operation while working
Chart 5
• Worm reducers require a run-in period of at least 24 hours before reaching its maximum e ciency. If normal operation requires, gearbox to rotate in both directions, each direction needs to separately rotate for some time.
6 Check and Maintenance
6.1 Maintenance Intervals
Cycle of check Content
After the  rst 500 hours (Kuma 110-150 frame). clean housing and change oil
After 5000 hours of operation.
Kuma frame sizes 025-090 have been  lled with lubrication. User doesn’t need to add oil. After about 10000 hours if operation, please change lubricant.
Table 2
clean housing and change oil
Replace anti-friction bearings and oil seal.
6.2 Lubricants
• Please change the oil when the oil is warm.
• Helpful and safe tips: Shut down the power to prevent personnel injury! Allow the until to cool by touch so it doesn’t feel hot by the gearbox.
• The gearbox must still be warm otherwise the high viscosity of excessively cold oil will make it hard to drain the oil.
1. Place a container underneath the oil drain plug.
2. Remove vent plug on breather valve and cone plug.
3. Drain all of the oil and clean the inside, then re-screw oil drain plug.
4. Pour in new oil of the some type through the vent hole. Do not mix synthetic lubricants.
• The worm reducer must still be warm otherwise the high viscosity of excessively cold oil will make it hard to  ll with oil.
- Pour in the volume of oil in accordance with the lubricant capacity table.
- Screw the breather plug back into place, and check readings at the oil level plug.
