INSTALLATION
INSTALLING 9-VOLT BATTERY
The backup battery protects your messages, as well as the data and time
from
being lost in the event of a power interruption. Attach one 9V battery
(not
supplied) to the terminal in the battery compartment.
To install battery
1. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to lift up the battery compartment cover,
and then remove the cover.
2. Attach one 9V alkaline battery (not supplied) to the terminal and place
the
battery in the compartment.
3. Replace and snap the cover into place.
Note
: Replace the battery with a fresh one when appears on the
display.
CONNECTING YOUR SYSTEM
1. Insert the attached phone line cord into the wall jack.
2. Insert your phone’s modular phone line cord into the TEL. LINE jack.
3. Insert the AC adapter’s barrel plug into the 9V DC jack, and then plug
the
AC adapter into an AC wall outlet.
Notes:
• Plug the adaptor to a socket-outlet near the equipment which will be
easily
accessible.
• Use only the supplied AC Adapter. Use of any other power source
may cause damage.
PREPARATION
TURNING THE SYSTEM ON/OFF
The display lights to show the system is on. To turn off the system, press
ON / OFF / STOP once, the display turns off. Press the button again to
tu
rn the system back on.
SETTING THE DAY AND TIME
1. Turn the answering system on and hold down / TIME SET / CHECK
until
it beeps twice.
2. Press / ANNC / DAY repeatedly until you hear the correct day.
3. Press
REC
repeatedly until you hear the correct hour.
4. Press PLAY / PAUSE repeatedly until you hear the correct minute.
5. Press / TIME SET / CHECK once. The answering system plays the
time
and day you just set.
Notes:
• Perform each of the above steps within five seconds; otherwise your
an
swering system exits the setup mode and announces the incomplete
time.
• To exit the time-setting mode at any time, press ON / OFF / STOP
onc
e.
RECORDING OUTGOING MESSAGES
Your answering system has a built-in outgoing message, “Hello, please
leave a message after the tone.” You can use this message or record your
own.
1. Hold down / ANNC / DAY, and speak clearly into the microphone,
no
more than 10 inches away.
2. Release / ANNC / DAY when you’re finished. Your answering
system beeps
and automatically plays back your recorded message.
Notes:
• Your outgoing message must be between one and 60 seconds.
• If you record your own message but wish to revert to the pre-recorded
messag
e, press / DELETE during playback of your outgoing
messag
e.
ADJUSTING THE VOLUME
Press to increase the volume, or to decrease the volume. The system
sounds
a tone when you change the volume.
SETTING THE NUMBER OF RINGS
To control the duration before the unit answers a call, slide the RINGER
2 / 4 / 7 / TS switch to the desired number of rings.
TS (Toll Saver) – If you choose the Toll Saver option, and there are new
message
s, the unit answers after two rings. Otherwise, the unit answers
after
4 rings. This lets you avoid unnecessary charges when calling by
long
distance to check your messages. If you hear more than two rings,
you know you can hang up because the unit has no new messages.
SETTING YOUR SYSTEM TO ANSWER CALLS
Slide ANS / ANNC ONLY at the back to ANS to answer calls.
Notes:
• Callers can leave messages in one of the three personal mailboxes
by pressing *1, *2 or *3 before they record their messages.
• If the caller does not select a specific mailbox, the system will place
the message in the general mailbox.
• When the caller hangs up or has reached the maximum message
length
(up to five minutes in mailboxes 1, 2 or 3 and one minute in the
general
mailbox), the system hangs up and resets to answer the next
call
.
ANSWERING SYSTEM OPERATION
USING ANNOUNCE ONLY MESSAGE
This feature lets you set the system to play a message for the caller. The
caller
cannot leave a message. You can use the answering system’s built-
in
message that says “No one is available to take your call.”, or record
your own (see “recording outgoing messages”).
When
your answering system receives a call, it plays back the announce-
only
message.
1. To activate this function, slide ANS / ANNC ONLY to ANNC ONLY.
2. To turn off announce-only, set ANS / ANNC ONLY to ANS.
Notes:
• The maximum length for your announce-only recording is 60 seconds.
Your recording does not affect the original outgoing message. Each
outgo ing
m es sage c an be recorded, played back, or delete d

y.
• When your answering system is set to ANNC ONLY, you cannot use
the
remote commands to record incoming messages.
SCREENING CALLS
You can screen your calls by letting your system answer while listening to
the
caller’s message via the speaker. If you want to answer the call, pick
up
any phone sharing the same line connection as your system. The
system
stops recording.
Note:
If you pick up the phone and the outgoing message continues to
pl
ay, press ON / OFF / STOP to stop playback.
RECORDING A MEMO
You can record a memo for your general mailbox, or for the three personal
mail
boxes, MAIL 1 / 2 / 3.
Recording in your personal mailbox:
1. Press and hold the corresponding MAIL 1 / 2 / 3 to leave your message.
2. When the system beeps, speak clearly into the microphone at least
10
inches away from your answering system.
3. When you finish, release the button.
Recording in your general mailbox:
1. Press and hold
REC
. Your answering system beeps and then the main
LED
flashes quickly.
2. Speak clearly into the microphone at least 10 inches away from your
an
swering system. The clock timer begins.
3. Release
REC
when you finish your message. The main LED flashes
slowly
to indicate your new memo has been recorded.
Note:
Recording
stops automatically if you exceed the maximum recording
length
. The display shows the time and the system saves your incomplete
message.
