AIRFLOW TEST KIT

Test Method Description from the OSHA Tuberculosis Control Training & Resource Guid e:
1. Before using this product, read, understand, and comply with all labels, warnings, operating instructions, MSDS, and other literature accompanying the product before use. Failure to comply with all lab els, warnings, operating instructions, MSDS, and other literature could result in serious injury.

3. Wear eye protection and chemical resistant gloves in accordance with OSHA standards and good practice before using this product.
4. Remove the aspirator bulb, black plastic tubing, and one plastic smoke tube from the Nextteq carrying case.
NOTE: To increase density of smoke, at temperatures colder than 40ºF/4.44ºC, we recommend that the tube be warmed with
the hand during use.
5. Connect the black plastic tubing to the aspirator bulb, then insert the black plastic tubing into the end of the smoke tub e.
6. Break the two (2) ampoules in the plastic smoke tube by gently squeezing each glass ampoule.
NOTE: When the ampoules are manually crushed, aspirated airflow causes mixing of the released vapors, which react to
form Ethylenediamine acetate smoke.
7. The airflow tube should be held in the following position in relation to the door:
Parallel to the door (not aimed toward it)
Close to the floor
Centered in the middle of the door
Approximately two (2) inches in front of the door
NOTE: The tube should NOT be aimed toward the door and the smoke should NOT be blo wn dir ectly into the isolation room.
8. Slowly squeeze the aspirator bulb pump to make small puffs of smoke, then observe the resulting direction of airfl ow.
NOTE: Minimize the momentum of the smoke by squeezing the bulb slowly, which will also help minimize the volume of
smoke released.
9. Repeat the test at least once or until consistent results are obtained.
10. For occupied isolation rooms, release smoke from the corridor side of the door only.

4. Inspect the product and associated equipment for damage or defects before using this product. DO NOT use this product if this product or associated equipment is damaged or defective.

6. Wear chemical resistant safety gloves in accordance with OSHA standards and good practice when using this product.
7. Wear eye protection in accordance with OSHA standards and good practice when exposed to smoke or fumes.
8. When operating the aspirator bulb pump, slowly and gently compress the bulb half way to minimize smoke momentum and smoke volume.
9. Keep all bystanders away from this product during use or testing.
10. Smoke trail visualization isolation room testing should be performed in strict compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
11. DO NOT spray smoke or fumes of smoke tube under doors unless you have first checked to ensure the smoke will not be blown onto unprotected persons.

12. DO NOT breathe the smoke or fumes directly. Avoid prolonged breathing of smoke or fumes, as prolonged breathing of smoke or fumes may result in serious injury.
13. DO NOT blow smoke or fumes directly into a person’s unprotected face, as blowing smoke or fumes directly into a person’s unprotected face could result in serious injury.
14. DO NOT blow smoke or fumes directly into eyes. Avoid smoke or fumes contacting eyes or skin. Blowing smoke or fumes directly into a person’s eyes could result in serious inju ry.
15. DO NOT spray smoke in and or over areas that have the possibility of contaminating food or beverages, food or beverage container s, and/or food preparation, serving, or holding areas.
16. DO NOT eat, drink, take internally, or consume contents of smoke tube. This may r e sult in serious injury.
17. DO NOT burn or throw this tube into a fire, as it may result in emitting dangerous toxic fumes.
18. After using this tube or after being exposed to smoke or fumes, wash face, hands, and any areas exposed to smoke or fumes before eating, drinking, smoking, applying cosmetics, or inserting or removing contact lenses.
19. Smoke tubes are primarily composed of plastic, glass, and chemi cals. Keep smoke tubes out of the reach of children.
20. Use only the aspirator bulb pump specified by the manufacturer at the specified flow rates. Only operate the aspirator bulb pump in strict compliance with the manufacturer’s specification and instructions. If a non-specified pump is used or if the pump is not operated in accordance with the manufacturer’s specification and instructions, it may result in serious injury.
21. The smoke contains ethylenediamine acetate and may contain residual vapors of acetic acid and ethylenediamine, either of which may cause irritation to the eyes, mucous membrane, and skin. a. If inhaled and repeated coughing or trouble breathing occurs, immediately remove victim to fresh clean air. Restore and support breathing as
necessary. b. If coughing or breathing difficulty persists, immediately provide oxygen and contact a physician. c. If smoke contacts eyes, immediately flush eyes with running water for fifteen (15) minutes, including under eyelids, and contact a physician. d. If smoke contacts skin or skin irritation occurs, immediately flush effected area with running water for fifteen (15) minutes.
22. DO NOT use this product for respirator fit testing. DO NOT use this product if operator has a pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular condition, bronchial ailments, has or has had asthma, multiple chemical sensitivity or is hypersensitive or is allergic to acetic acid, 1,2,diaminoethane, or ethylenediamine.
23. This product is only for sale to, only for use by, and only for storage by trained, qualified, professional commercial or industrial users.
24. DO NOT dispose of expired or used tubes in domestic or residential waste. Smoke tubes must be disposed of properly. Dispose of smoke tubes in strict accordance with all federal, state, and local statutes, ordinances, and regulations.
25. DO NOT substitute, modify, or omit parts or components. Only use the manufacturer’s replacement parts in configuration specified by the original manufacturer. Substitution of unauthorized parts may result in accidents or serious injury.
26. Ship this product in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including Federal D.O.T. regulation 49 CFR.
27. Remember the product is only as safe as the product user.
