INSTRUCTION MANUAL
Read this manual carefully before use. Keep all documentation supplied throughout the entire service life of the product.
1. DESCRIPTION OF THE INSAFE DETECTOR
EN14604:2005/AC:2008
A smoke detector is an alarm device designed to give off an audible signal to warn that a re has started. INSAFE Origin, INSAFE Control and INSAFE+ Origin are Smoke Detectors with a built-in alarm system. Your detector and its sealed lithium battery come with a 10-year life
The detector can be used in an exceptional household environment:
Operating temperature: between -10°C and +40°C. Recurrent and/or extended use in this environment can reduce the life of the battery and therefore the autonomy of the detector.
Warning
The detector must be installed by a qualied individual, according to the instructions given in this manual. The detector will only activate the alarm in due time if properly located, installed and maintained. Under no circumstances can the detector be considered to replace the appropriate installation, use and maintenance of your fuel-operated device.
2. WHERE TO INSTALL THE DETECTOR

Operation of the remote control (INSAFE Control)
• The remote control is available and only operates with the INSAFE Control detector
• The remote control can only be used underneath the detector, perpendicular to its mounting axis
• When you press the button, the green diode comes to indicate proper operation of the remote control
• The button must be pressed and held for 5 seconds for the remote control to operate.
• After installation, the red diode will ash every 5 and a half minutes thereby indicating proper operation of the detector.
• In the event of an alarm, the alarm tone sounds and the red diode starts ashing several times per second.
CAUTION: Keep the detector away from your ears or wear ear plugs.
If the test does not work, the detector probably detected an operating defect. First-
ly make sure that you have properly complied with the precautions of use of the
detector. If such is the case, carry out the operation again (twice) if necessary. If
the test still does not work, wait 15 minutes and carry out the operation again
(twice) if necessary. If the test still does not work, the detector must be replaced.
Your detector then starts to operate automatically.
Pausing the alarm helps to control a pending false alarm in advance (e.g.: smoke or steam
when cooking, use of candles or incense, cigarette smoking, etc.)
Your detector then resumes automatic operation.
Make sure that you have properly complied with the precautions of use. If such is the case
and the defect alarm continues after 15minutes, then the detector must be replaced

5. BATTERY
The smoke detector has a maximum service life of 10 years. Beyond this limit, it will no longer operate at peak efciency. Your detector and its remote control are tted with a high-performance battery that has a duration of 10 years. This battery cannot be replaced. The detector and the remote control are sealed and will operate throughout their entire service life. The end of the battery life means that you must change your detector and/ or remote control.
6. MAINTENANCE
Clean the detector every month:
- Remove dust from the detector with an antistatic cloth or with the brush end-tting of your vacuum cleaner
- Clean the upper edges of the detector with an antistatic cloth
- Immediately remove any insect, spider web or dust accumulated around your detector.
CAUTION: Do not use a compressed air spray or equivalent
7. ACTION TO TAKE IF THE DETECTOR ALARM IS ACTIVATED
Make sure you know how your detector alarm works to start with. Prepare an evacuation plan, learn to recognize the exit route and practice evacuating your dwelling rapidly.
In the event of an alarm:
A. Keep calm B. Immediately evacuate your family from the dwelling, without taking anything with you, in accordance with the evacuation plan C. Be careful of the heat and smoke, keep your head down, cool air is close to the ground; cover your nose and mouth with a wet cloth D. Close the door of the room on re and the entrance door E. Once outside, call the reghters by dialing 112 (single European emergency number)
- State the reason for the call (type of re)
- Give your exact address and state whether there are victims and the severity of their injuries
- Answer all questions asked by the reghters. Do not hang up before being told to do so F. Do not try to go back inside the house G. Never take the lift
CAUTION: If all ways or staircases are completely engulfed in smoke:
H. Stay inside I. Take shelter in a room J. Close all inside openings (doors, air vents, etc.) K. Call the reghters by dialing 112 (single European emergency number) L. Place wet rags at the base of the doors and in front of inner openings M. Go to the window so that emergency response personnel can see you
8. PRECAUTIONS AND OPERATING LIMITS OF THE DETECTOR
For safety reasons, make sure you comply with the following provisions:
- Comply with all of the instructions in this manual and pay attention to the fact that failing to replace the detector at the intervals indicated in the manual will suspend detector operation and prevent an alarm, which could prove hazardous.
- Do not install the detector in one of the locations described in § «Places to be avoided».
- Do not paint or cover the detector.
- Do not block the detector openings.
- Do not disassemble, modify or damage the detector.
- The detector must be installed at all times.
- Do not place bare ignition sources such as lighted candles underneath the detector.
- The detector is not a transportable product.
- The detector is unable to detect res outside of the dwellings.
- The detector will not be able to detect a re if an insufcient quantity of smoke reaches the detector sensor (smoldering re, re too far away, etc.).
- It is recommended to install several detectors for optimum safety.
- The detector cannot be used for people who are hearing impaired.
- The manufacturer recommends a monthly maintenance of the detectors.
- It is dangerous to suspect a false alarm as the smoke preceding the onset of the ames are toxic and may cause you to lose consciousness: despite the absence of ames, a re may blaze up in a few minutes.
- If false alarms are frequent, you may need to change the location of your detector and move it further away from the sources of false alarms.
- The detector must no longer be used and must be replaced subsequent to a re or after a signicant amount of smoke or under abnormal conditions.
- The detector must not be used more than 10 years after initial commissioning.
The detector is designed to have a service life of 10 years enabling it:
- To detect res for 10 years
- To power the alarm signal for 4 minutes at 85 dB.
- To perform weekly tests for 10 seconds.
- To indicate that the battery is low via an audible signal for 30 days.
Some conditions could damage the detector, reduce its sensitivity and/or the life of the battery and therefore of the detector:
- Exposing the detector to temperatures or humidity levels outside of the normal household environment
- A recurring and/or prolonged use in this exceptional environment
