1. Introduction
Netvox ZA02A, a ZigBee air pollution sensor, acts as a Router Device in ZigBee network. ZA02A is featured to
play a role of the sensor (Zone device) in the ZigBee security system. It can detect NH3, NO2, Ethanol (EtOH),
SO2, and smoke. When the air quality goes below a specified level, ZA02A would generate the sound to alert users.
ZA02A will also notify the central security unit, CIE (Control and Indicating Equipment) device, to send
commands to a siren device to trigger an alarm.
What is ZigBee?
ZigBee is a short range wireless transmission technology based on IEEE802.15.4 standard and supports multiple
network topologies such as point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, and mesh networks. It is defined for a
general-purpose, cost-effective, low-power-consumption, low-data-rate, and easy-to-install wireless solution for
industrial control, embedded sensing, medical data collection, smoke and intruder warning, building automation
and home automation, etc.

5. Setting up ZA02A
5-1. Join the ZigBee Network
After ZA02A is turned on, it will search for an existing ZigBee network with the same channel and send a
request to join the network automatically. While ZA02A is under the coverage from a coordinator or a router
whose permit-join feature is enabled, ZA02A will be permitted to join the network.
1. Enable the permit-join function (valid for 60 seconds) of a coordinator or a router (please refer to the user
manual of the coordinator or the router to enable the permit-join feature).
2. Load batteries on ZA02A. It will start to search and join the network.
15 minutes.
5. During sleeping mode, press and hold binding key for 3 seconds or press shortly once (the buzzer rings 3
times) to search/join network.
5.2. Enroll in the ZigBee Security System
ZA02A is a Zone device in the ZigBee security system. Right after ZA02A join the ZigBee network, it will
automatically find out a CIE (Control and Indicating Equipment) device (i.e. Netvox Z201B) and send a
registration request to the CIE device to enroll in the security system. The enrollment has these 3 situations:
5
A. There is no CIE device or no compatible CIE device in the network → the indicator flashes red twice.
1. After ZA02A joining network and enrolled successfully, the buzzer rings for 5 seconds (3-5 times).
2. If this is the first alert test, the buzzer rings “jew jew” gradually for 5 times and dual color indicator flashes
5. If ZA02A is not in a network → it generates alert sound for 5 seconds (3-5 times). The dual color indicator
B. There is a compatible CIE device in the network, but it is failed to enroll → the indicator flashes red 4
times. Users can press and hold the Test Key for 3 seconds to initiate the registration.
C. The enrollment is completed → the indicator flashes red 6 times.
NOTE: Users had better NOT enroll multiple Zone devices at the same time to prevent registration failure.
5-3. Alert Test
To test the alert feature of ZA02A, press shortly Test Key once.
alternately for 5 times. In the mean time, it will send alert to CIE devices.
3. During alert testing, if ZA02A receives fire alarm from CIE devices, it will send notification to the CIE
device and generates alert sound. The indicator keeps flashing.
4. If ZA02A is in the network but not enrolled → the buzzer rings for 5 seconds (3-5 times) and dual color
indicator flashes alternately for 5 times. In the mean time, it sends the enrollment request. After the
enrollment is successful, it will generate an alert sound when it is enrolled successfully. No action after the
device is fail to enroll.
flashes alternately 5 times. Press shortly Test Key within 5 seconds during the buzzer rings to close alarm.
5-4. Air Pollution Sensing
When the air quality goes below a specified level, ZA02A would generate the sound to alert users. It will also
send the notification to CIE device or to the device which is bound using Cluster ID (0x0500). In the mean
time, the buzzer will ring and dual color indicator flashes alternately. Users can press shortly Test Key at this
moment to close buzzer and indicator. Or wait till air quality turns back to normal; the buzzer and indicator
will shut off automatically.
5-5. Announce and Restart
Press and hold the Test Key for 3 seconds to announce and green indicator will flash for 5 times.
Press and hold the Test Key for 10 seconds to restart ZA02A and green indicator will flash.
5-6. Low Voltage alert and Temperature Sensor
(1)Device uses 2 AAA 1.5V batteries. While battery power is lower than 2.4V, device will stop working.
When the sensor is triggered or Test Key is pressed, device will check low voltage status as well as every
hour. While detecting low voltage status, the device will send alert to CIE devices and buzzer rings for 1
Second (1-2 times). Dual color indicator flashes once alternately to remind users.
(2)10 seconds after device is powered on, it will detect temperature every 30 seconds. Once the temperature is
6
Over 60 degrees, it will send high temperature alert to CIE devices. In the mean time, the buzzer and dual
color indicator flashes alternately.
5-7. Restore to Factory Setting
If users would like to join device into a new network, it needs to be restored.
To restore it to factory setting, please follow the steps:
Step1. Press and hold both Binding Key & Test Key for 5 seconds till green indicator flashes.
Step2. After releasing both keys, the red indicator will flash 20 times to show restore completely.
Step3. After restoring completely, the dual indicator will flash once to search the new network.

6. Home Automation Clusters for ZA02A
A cluster is a set of related attributes and commands which are grouped together to provide a specific function. A
simple example of a cluster would be the On/Off cluster which defines how an on/off switch behaves. This table
lists the clusters which are supported by ZA02A.
