drive! The NEC Versa CD-RW drive features th e latest in CD - ROM technol ogy. It is full y
compatible with Kodak Multisession Photo CDs™ and standard audio CDs.

CDs whil e you work or relax. Wit h the Mi c rosoft

The NEC CD-RW Software CD
The NE C CD - RW software CD contains two ap p licati ons, Easy CD Creator and Dir ectCD,
which need to be installed so you can use the CD-RW functions of the CD-RW drive. The
following sections provide the installation instructions for the applications.
Installing Easy CD Creator
Easy CD Creator is an application that allows you to create data and audio CDs. Follow these
steps to install Easy CD Creat or.
1.
Insert the NEC CD-RW software C D into the CD-RW drive. Th e Adaptec Mast er Setup
screen appears. If the CD does not load automatically, do the following.
Double click on My Computer on the Windows desktop.
Double cl ick on the C D dri ve. The Adap tec Master Set up screen app ears.

Selec t your lang ua ge .
3.
Click Easy CD Creator.
4.
The Adap tec Easy CD Cr eator Setup s cr een appears. Click Next .
5.
The Soft wa re Licen s e Agreement a p pears. Click Yes to accept.
6.
The Choose Destination Location dialog box appears with the default path as C:\Program
Files\Adaptec.
Accept the default location or choose an al ternate l oca tion.
Click Next.
7.
Easy CD Creator is installed. When the installation completes, click Finish.
8.
A dialog box appears asking if you want to in stall A dobe Acr obat Re ader to acces s the
Quick Ref erence Gu ide.
Click No if Acrobat Reader is already installed on the system. Go to step 9 to continue.
Click Yes to install Acrobat Reader (it installs after the system restarts). Go to step 9 to
continue.
9.
The Adap tec Master Setup screen appear s. Y ou can either select D irectCD or Exit.
Select DirectC D to continue. G o t o “In stalling DirectCD,” st ep 3, to continue.
Select Exit and click Finish if you want to install DirectCD at a later time. The system
rest ar ts and Acrobat Reader installs (i f you sel ected Yes i n step 8, above) .
Installing DirectCD
DirectCD lets you write files directly to the CD in the CD-RW drive. Follow these steps to
inst all DirectCD.
1.
Insert the NEC CD-RW software C D into the CD-RW drive. Th e Adaptec Mast er Setup
screen appears. If the CD does not load automatically, do the following.
Double click on My Computer on the Windows desktop.
Double cl ick on the C D dri ve. The Adap tec Master Set up screen app ears.
2.
Click on DirectCD.
3.
The DirectCD Note di alog box appears. Click Yes .
4.
The DirectCD Welcome screen a ppears. Cli ck N ex t.

The Soft wa re Licen s e Agreement a p pears. Click Yes to accept.
6.
The Choose Destination Location dialog box appears with the default path as C:\Program
Files\Adaptec\DirectCD.
Accept the default location or choose an al ternate l oca tion.
Click Next.
7.
The Sel ect Program F ol d er dialog box appear s. Cl ick Next.
8.
Dir ectCD is insta lled. When the installation completes, the Adaptec Ma s ter screen a p pears.
Click Exi t.
9.
Click Finish to restart the system.
Running under Windows NT
For t he NEC V ersa VXi system onl y, N EC Computers recommends tha t you disable the
Save-to-File power management feature before writing to a CD. The CD-RW software running
under Windows NT does not support ACPI functions, and the system may go into a Save-to-File
state even though the drive is busy.
Note
Disable the Sa ve-to-File feature befor e creat ing CD s.
If the system goes into a Save-to-File state during CD creation, the resulting CD will have
errors, and will ha ve t o be created ag ain.
While the CD creati on d oes resume once the system com es ou t of the Sa ve-to-File s tate, the
message, “Errors reported by output device” appears, and th e r es u lting CD does not functi on
properly.

With other media, the sensitivity settings are not configurable so only default settings can be
used during CD creation. As a result, the CD being created may not be readable.
