Neat Acoustics ULTIMATUM XL6 User Manual

THE ULTIMATUM XL6 LOUDSPEAKER
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Congratulations on choosing the ULTIMATUM XL6 loudspeakers. Used correctly, they will provide a lifetime of beautiful music. Please read the following notes in order to get the best from them.
RUNNING IN
gradual improvement will occur over a period of several weeks.
ASSEMBLY
The XL6 loudspeakers are packed in two cartons, with the plinths and fixings in a third carton.
Place the XL6 upside down on a clean, non-abrasive surface. Place the plinths on the bottom of the cabinet and line up the screw-holes with those on the cabinet. (The countersunk holes on the plinth should be facing towards you.) Fit the countersunk screws with the supplied 4mm allen key.
Return to upright, place the XL6 in required position, then loosen the locking collars on the spikes (the 4mm allen key can be inserted into a hole in the side of the locking ring to release it, if necessary).
Level the speaker by turning the spikes with the supplied 6mm allen key. When level, tighten the locking collars. (They can be easily tightened by hand.)
YOUR SYSTEM
It is important to extract the maximum of recorded information from your chosen source components. This means using the very best possible electronics. Cabling should also be of appropriate quality as the ULTIMATUM XL6 may reveal deficiencies in this area.
CONNECTIONS
The ULTIMATUM XL6 is intended for 'bi-amping' or 'bi-wiring'. Bi-wiring is effected by running two sets of cable from the amplifier output terminals. Connect one set to the lower and one set to the upper terminals on the rear of the speaker. Take care to ensure correct phasing (i.e. red and black connections maintained at amplifier and speaker).
Where a single set of cable connections is desired, link the two black terminals together, likewise the two red terminals, using the same type of cable as used for the amp to speaker connection.
Where bi-amplification is being considered, it is advisable to consult a dealer, or Neat Acoustics, for advice.
PLACEMENT IN THE ROOM
There are no firm rules regarding placement, as acoustics will vary from room to room. A degree of experimentation is necessary for optimum placement but a starting point of 30-50cm from rear walls and 60cm from side walls is suggested, with a toe-in of 10-15 degrees. Generally, bass output increases as distance from the rear wall, or room corner, decreases. Stereo depth and associated effects improve as the speaker is brought away from room boundaries. Move the loudspeaker in small increments (2-3 cm) and assess the changes until satisfied with the in-room balance. (Often, very small changes of the loudspeaker position can result in a huge improvement in performance.)
MAINTENANCE
The ULTIMATUM XL6 has no user-replaceable parts and requires no maintenance.
To clean, brush lightly with a soft, lint-free cloth. Should a fault condition arise, consult your dealer.
WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE INSIDE OF THE ENCLOSURE.
WARRANTY
The ULTIMATUM XL6 is guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of five years. This warranty is limited to the original purchaser.
