USER INSTRUCTION ML314B-SERIES
ML314B and ML314B-4A
4-CHANNEL BATTERY CHARGER MULTI CHEMISTRY
(PLATFORM)
General: The battery charger is designed for demanding Ground Mobile use. The charger
can be supplied with nominal supply voltage 230VAC or 12/24VDC from vehicles. Two different power cables are used, one for DC-supply and one for AC-supply. The battery charger has only one input power socket.
Charging: The charger is very easy to operate; it has no switches nor are other adjustments necessary for the charging process. Connected batteries are charged independently of each other.
Batteries which can be charged are rechargeable LI-ION batteries with a nominal battery voltage of 3.6–28.8V (1-8 cells) and NICD batteries 2.4-24V (2-20 cells). ML314B: Max charging current per channel: 2A (max total output: 8A). ML314B-4A: Max charging current per channel: 4A (max total output: 16A)
Smart adapter: The battery adapter (the connection box on top of the charger) sets how the charging channels shall be configured. As an example the charger can be configured by the adapter for connecting the charging outputs in parallel, making it possible to charge two batteries using ML314B with 4A (8A with ML314B-4A) or one battery with 8A (16A with ML314B-4A). It is not possible to use the charger without a smart battery adapter. The battery adapter contains data about battery chemistry, charging voltage, charging current, timer etc. The charger reads the data and adjusts the charging parameters to fit exactly the battery types the battery adapter is designed for. By replacing the battery adapter, other types of batteries can be charged. The size of the battery to charge sets if the batteries can be fitted directly into the battery adapter or must be connected by cable.

Battery adapters and power supply cables
Battery adapter with 4 battery slots (with straps for securing battery from vehicle movement)
Battery adapter with 4 charging cables
DC supply cable and AC supply cable (different lengths and plugs available)
It is strongly forbidden to make any special supply cables. The AC and DC supply cables delivered with the charger are the only power supply cables allowed to be used.
DC supply cable: Fuse replacement:
This connector will fit in the most frequent cigarette lighter connectors and in a standard female 12 mm connector. The positive terminal is connected to the centre pin. The fuse 8 A slow, is located inside the universal power connector. When replacing the fuse, unscrew the red plastic knob that surrounds the centre pin. If the
charger is connected to wrong polarity the fuse will break. NOTE: Never connect the charger without using a properly connected fuse. 8 A slow, 5x20 mm (T8AL-250V).
INDICATIONS
The charger has one red lamp and four (one per channel) green lamps. Red continuously on.
Charger powered (Red lamp is turned off when first battery connected).
Green continuously on. Battery being charged. Green flashes. Battery fully charged.
Red flashes slowly. (Green lamps are off)
Too high or to low supply voltage; or too high internal temperature; or internal charger fault.
Red flashes quickly. (Green lamps are off)
The battery adapter is not recognized by the charger. It is not possible to use the charger without battery adapter.
Red and corresponding Green flashes quickly. Battery fault. Remove battery.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Connect power supply
Red lamp lights up
Whilst not necessary for proper operation it is good practice to shield the charger from rain and direct sunlight whenever possible. Free airflow over the unit should be ensured at all times.
Choose type of power supply (AC or DC). Connect the power supply cable for 12/24VDC or the power supply
cable for 230VAC to the battery charger. Connect the power cable to the power source. The red lamp on the charger should light up.
2. Connect battery
Green lamp lights up
Connect battery/batteries to the charger. The green lamps should light up for all connected batteries.
The red lamp goes out when first battery is connected. All connected batteries will be charged simultaneously and
independently of one another.
3. Battery charged
Green lamp flashes
A battery is fully charged if the green lamp flashes. The charged battery may be replaced immediately by another.
Charged batteries may alternatively be left connected to the charger.
Fault
indication
The red lamp alone will flash if a fault develops within the charger or if the input power source voltage is too low or too high.
The red and green lamps both flash quickly if a battery fault is detected. (Typically this warning indicates excessively low battery voltage or unexpectedly high internal battery resistance.) Batteries which cause the display of this warning should be replaced and must not be subjected to further attempted charge cycles.
Automatic protection of discharging 12V supply battery in the vehicle. The charger will automatically be turned off if the 12V DC
supply voltage in the vehicle becomes too low. The charger will flash the red lamp slowly.

SAFETY WARNINGS
Simultaneous parallel connection of two or more batteries to any single charging output is not permitted.
Fuses must be replaced by parts of the same type and rating. Refer also to chapter; Fuse replacement.
The charger must be isolated from all power sources prior to carrying out any servicing operations.
The charger power cord with plug termination constitutes the primary means of disconnecting the charger from AC power sources. The charger must not be hardwired to an AC power source under any circumstances and should be used with the power cord supplied.
Only rechargeable batteries of the type dedicated to be used by the specific battery adapter fitted to the charger may be connected to the charger.
The use of non-standard input supply cables is strictly forbidden. The AC and DC cables as supplied with the charger are the only power cables which may be used.
The charger does not have any DC-supply fuse. The charger is only allowed to be connected to a fused DC-supply. A fuse for the charger must be located in the wiring of the vehicle. A DC supply cable is available from Natek with an 8A slow (T8AL-250V), 5x20mm standard glass type fuse inside its vehicle connector. Refer to chapter: DC supply cable, Fuse replacement.
