PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This configuration will allow up to 12 separate (4 or 8 ohm) speakers, in conjunction with up to 12 separate sensors to be connected to the one Talking Display Unit (TDU).
This complete system then provides for up to 12 independent and separate “zones” each with its own message and local speaker .
This means that :
Sensor 1 when triggered will cause Message 1 to play on speaker 1 Sensor 2 when triggered will cause Message 2 to play on speaker 2 Sensor 3 when triggered will cause Message 3 to play on speaker 3 Sensor 4 when triggered will cause Message 4 to play on speaker 4 Sensor 5 when triggered will cause Message 5 to play on speaker 5 Sensor 6 when triggered will cause Message 6 to play on speaker 6 Sensor 7 when triggered will cause Message 7 to play on speaker 7 Sensor 8 when triggered will cause Message 8 to play on speaker 8 Sensor 9 when triggered will cause Message 9 to play on speaker 9 Sensor 10 when triggered will cause Message 10 to play on speaker 10 Sensor 1 1 when triggered will cause Message 1 1 to play on speaker 1 1 Sensor 12 when triggered will cause Message 12 to play on speaker 12

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The SSU also allows for a primary audio feed, if connected, that will be supplied to all speakers at all times.
This primary audio feed will then be replaced by the TDU message, only on the appropriate speaker, whenever the TDU is triggered. The primary audio feed is then reconnected at the end of the TDU message.
Speakers can be located up to 100m from the TDU unit, or greater than 100m from the TDU if low resistance wiring is used.
The remote speakers connect to the SSU via a female 25 pin D type connector. Each speaker has been allocated a specific pin position (see page 6).
This equipment supports unpowered 4 ohm speakers up to 5 watts or 8 ohm speakers up to 2.5 watts. Alternatively, powered speakers, or an external amplifier can be used for greater volume output.
Power for the SSU and communication between the SSU and the TDU is achieved via a supplied 6 wire telephone cable, which connects to an RJ11 format 6 position communications port.
The SSU has 2 identical communications ports that provide for power and communication between the SSU, the TDU and other TDU accessories, in a DAISY CHAIN fashion.
It does not matter which of the identical communications ports are used for input or output. A single 6 wire telephone cable is supplied with all TDU accessories. There is no need for any other external connections.
The SPEAKER SWITCHING UNIT (SSU) accessory is available in 3 separate configurations :
SSU-4 - 4 Speaker output unit for the Talking Display Unit SSU-8 - 8 Speaker output unit for the Talking Display Unit SSU-12 - 12 Speaker output unit for the Talking Display Unit

INST ALLA TION
COMMUNICATION
Communication between the SPEAKER SWITCHING UNIT (SSU), the TALKING DISPLAY UNIT (TDU) and the MULTIPLE INPUT UNIT (MIU) is achieved via a standard 6 wire telephone cable.
A short 6 wire telephone cable is supplied with the SSU and the MIU. This can be substituted if necessary with any 6 wire cable with a length
up to 100m.
POWER
Power for the SSU and the MIU is supplied from the TALKING DISPLAY UNIT (TDU) via the same 6 wire cable.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1) Using a 6 wire telephone cable, connect Communications Port 1 of
the SPEAKER SWITCHING UNIT (SSU) to the Sensor Input port of the T ALKING DISPLA Y UNIT (TDU).
2) Using another 6 wire telephone cable, connect Communications Port 2 of the SPEAKER SWITCHING UNIT (SSU) to the Communications Port of the MUL TIPLE INPUT UNIT (MIU).
3) Connect a separate 12VAC or 12VDC (minimum of 300mA - polarity independent) power source to the power adaptor jack of the MUL TIPLE INPUT UNIT (MIU).
This additional power input for the MIU is required to prevent the possibility of ‘brown out’ when the SPEAKER SWITCHING UNIT and MULTIPLE INPUT UNIT are used in the same application.
4) Solder the connections for your Speakers to the supplied Male DB25 connector, as per the table on page 6.
A separate male DB25 connector, with exposed terminals is supplied with this unit to allow direct solder connection of cables leading to each speaker.

INST ALLATION
Each speaker has been allocated two specific pin positions and should be connected to the DB25 connector as per the diagram and table on page 6.
Speakers can be located up to 100m from the SSU unit, or greater than 100m from the SSU if low resistance wiring is used.
5) Connect the male DB25 connector (above) to the female DB25 connector fitted to the SPEAKER SWITCHING UNIT (SSU).
6) Using the 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm Audio cable that is supplied with the SSU, connect the AUDIO output from the TDU into the AUDIO INPUT 1 port of the SSU.
7) The SSU also allows for a primary audio feed, if connected, that will be supplied to all speakers at all times.
This primary audio feed will then be replaced by the TDU message, only on the appropriate speaker, whenever the TDU is triggered.
The primary audio feed is then reconnected at the end of the TDU message.
The primary audio feed connects to the AUDIO INPUT 2 port.
8) Install the TALKING DISPLAY UNIT (TDU) and the MULTIPLE INPUT UNIT (MIU) as per the separate instructions supplied with each unit.
9) Adjust the Audio Volume output of the TALKING DISPLAY UNIT (TDU) to requirements.
10) Adjust the Audio Volume output of the primary audio feed (if used) to requirements.
11) Complete connection and set up of the MIU unit and TDU unit as per the instructions within the User Guide supplied with each of these devices.
12) Test your system by triggering each switch connected to the MIU unit.
