PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Our MUL TIPLE MODEM SWITCH devices are designed for applications where multiple telephone devices, which have Modem facilities, and are required to RECEIVE INCOMING MODEM CALLS and share the same telephone line.
Up to FOUR MUL TIPLE MODEM SWITCH’s can be fitted to ONE LINE, to provide for connection of up to 8 separate devices.
Each MULTIPLE MODEM SWITCH will allow TWO devices to be added to it. In total up to 7 Modems and 1 Fax Machine can share a Fax Telephone Line,
or up to 8 Modems can share one telephone line. Each MUL TIPLE MODEM SWITCH device provides BARGE-IN PROTECTION,
which will ensure that only one of these telephone devices can have access to the telephone line at any one time.
SHARING A DEDICATED FAX LINE
Your MUL TIPLE MODEM SWITCH will answer all incoming calls after 2 rings. If the incoming call is a Fax Call, the internal Fax Switch will then automatically
detect and transfer the incoming Fax to the attached Fax Machine. Incoming Modem (Data) calls are automatically routed to any 1 of 7 attached
Modems by adding DTMF digit(s), 1 to 7, to the end of the telephone number (dial string) dialed by the calling Modem.
DTMF 1 will connect the call to Modem 1, DTMF 2 will connect to Modem 2 and so on right through to DTMF 8, which will connect the call to Modem 8.

OPERATION
Up to FOUR MULTIPLE MODEM SWITCH ES can be fitted to ONE LINE, to provide for connection of up to 8 separate devices.
ONE MULTIPLE MODEM SWITCH unit (called the MASTER) should be set to ANSWER incoming calls. All other MULTIPLE MODEM SWITCH units should have the ANSWER facility disabled.
The ANSWER facility for each unit is set by the position of Dip Switch 2 located on the underside of the unit (see DIP SWITCHES).
Set Switch 2 to ON to ENABLE the answer facility . Set Switch 2 to OFF to DISABLE the answer facility .
If you are also using a FAX on the same line, it should be connected to the DEVICE A port of the MASTER unit. Y ou should then set Dip Switch 1 to the ON position to enable the FaxSwitch function.
When there is an Incoming Call, the MASTER unit will answer the call after 2 Rings. This unit and all other AUTO-SELECT units will then “listen” to the line for up to 9 SECONDS.
If a FAX TONE (CNG T ONE) is detected, the MASTER UNIT will then connect the incoming Fax call immediately to the attached FAX MACHINE, which is connected to the DEVICE A port.
If a DTMF TONE (1 to 8) is detected, the appropriate MULTIPLE MODEM SWITCH unit programmed for this code will immediately HOLD the call for 6 seconds before connecting the incoming call to the Modem. If another DTMF TONE is detected within the 6 second wait period, the 6 second timer will begin again. This will prevent any subsequent DTMF TONES that are sent from the calling Modem, from interfering with the Modem’s handshake process.
If FAX T ONES or DTMF TONES are not detected within the 9 second ‘listening period’, the MASTER UNIT will :
Connect the call to the DEVICE A port, if Dip Switch 1 is set ON. or Hang up the call without connecting it, if Dip Switch 1 is set OFF.

MASTER and SLAVE units
If you are only using ONE MULTIPLE MODEM SWITCH unit, then this unit
should be set up as the MASTER UNIT . If more than ONE MULTIPLE MODEM SWITCH unit is to be used, then you
need to SET UP each unit as follows :
MASTER UNIT (for a Fax and a Modem or for Two Modems)
The DTMF Code for Device A = 1. The DTMF Code for Device B = 2.
Set Dip Switch 1 = ON Set Dip Switch 2 = ON Set Dip Switch 3 = ON Set Dip Switch 4 = ON
SECOND UNIT (for 1 or 2 additional Modems)
The DTMF Code for Device A = 3. The DTMF Code for Device B = 4.
Set Dip Switch 1 = OFF Set Dip Switch 2 = OFF Set Dip Switch 3 = ON Set Dip Switch 4 = OFF
THIRD UNIT (for 3 or 4 additional Modems)
The DTMF Code for Device A = 5. The DTMF Code for Device B = 6.
Set Dip Switch 1 = OFF Set Dip Switch 2 = OFF Set Dip Switch 3 = OFF Set Dip Switch 4 = ON
FOURTH UNIT (for 5 or 6 additional Modems)
The DTMF Code for Device A = 7. The DTMF Code for Device B = 8.
Set Dip Switch 1 = OFF Set Dip Switch 2 = OFF Set Dip Switch 3 = OFF Set Dip Switch 4 = OFF
The Dip Switches are located on the underside of the unit.

DTMF CONNECTION CODES
T o CONNECT to a MODEM fitted to any MUL TIPLE MODEM SWITCH on the SHARED LINE, the calling MODEM must send one or more DTMF commands (single digit numbers from 1 to 8) which are entered at the end of the dial string.
These commands are entered at the end of the dial string after the entry of five ‘,’ characters.
Each ‘,’ instructs the Modem to wait 2 seconds before transmitting the next character in the dial string.
Five ‘,’ commands therefore effects a 10 second delay before sending the DTMF command.
This 10 second period will allow for the connection delay of 1-5 seconds for the outgoing call and a further 5 second delay resulting from the 2 rings required to cause the first MULTIPLE MODEM SWITCH to ANSWER the call.
At least 1 DTMF command must be detected in the 9 second ‘listening’ period, which is present after the FIRST UNIT ANSWERS the call.
Therefore to ensure that a DTMF command is detected a total of three DTMF Commands should be added to the end of the phone number to ensure detection during the ‘listening period’.
Example: to access Modem Number 2 (fitted to the MASTER unit) at telephone number (02) 1234 5678, the following phone number should be dialed : 0212345678,,,,,2,2,2
Example: to access Modem Number 4 ( fitted to the SECOND unit) at telephone number (03) 9876 5432, the following phone number should be dialed : 0398765432,,,,,4,4,4
