DESCRIPTION
Our MULTIPLE INPUT UNIT (MIU) accessory has been designed to allow up to 12 separate switches or sensors to be connected to the one Talking Display Unit (TDU).
The Talking Display Unit (TDU) can then play one of up to 12 separate messages, held in its memory, depending on which MULTIPLE INPUT UNIT sensor has been triggered.
This means that :
Sensor 1 when triggered will cause Message 1 to play Sensor 2 when triggered will cause Message 2 to play Sensor 3 when triggered will cause Message 3 to play Sensor 4 when triggered will cause Message 4 to play Sensor 5 when triggered will cause Message 5 to play Sensor 6 when triggered will cause Message 6 to play Sensor 7 when triggered will cause Message 7 to play Sensor 8 when triggered will cause Message 8 to play Sensor 9 when triggered will cause Message 9 to play Sensor 10 when triggered will cause Message 10 to play Sensor 1 1 when triggered will cause Message 11 to play Sensor 12 when triggered will cause Message 12 to play
Each Sensor Trigger will cause the appropriate message to play, as indicated above.
The TDU can only play one message at one time. While the TDU is playing a message, the default settings of MIU allow
it to detect further triggering by the attached sensors and it will hold in buffer up to 10 separate further triggers.
Then when each message is complete, the MIU will instruct the TDU to play the message corresponding to the next triggering action.
MIU is provided with a TWO YEAR FACTOR Y W ARRANTY.

DESCRIPTION Cont.
During Message play MIU can be configured to handle further sensor triggerring in 3 separate modes :
MODE 1 (Default Mode) MIU will STORE up to 10 further triggers and then instruct TDU to play these Messages in trigger order. This is the default mode.
MODE 2 - MIU will IGNORE any further triggering while playing a Message. Triggering will only take place when a Message is NOT PLAYING.
MODE 3 - MIU will INTERRUPT an existing Message. In this situation a trigger during Message Play will cause the existing Message to STOP and the NEW MESSAGE WILL PLAY.
The appropriate MIU Triggering Mode is set by REMOVING JUMPER CONNECTORS which are linking PINS that are accessed through a small hole located on the underside of MIU (see below).
Note : Jumpers are not in order
To Set MODE 1 - Leave all 3 JUMPERS in place.
To Set MODE 2 - Remove JUMPER 1.
To Set MODE 3 - Remove JUMPERs 1 and 2.

MODEL TABLE
The MUL TIPLE INPUT UNIT (MIU) accessory is available in 6 separate configurations :
MIU-4 - Provides input capability for up to 4 (N.O. sensors) MIU-4a - Provides input capability for up to 4 (N.C. sensors)
MIU-8 - Provides input capability for up to 8 (N.O. sensors) MIU-8a - Provides input capability for up to 8 (N.C. sensors)
MIU-12 - Provides input capability for up to 12 (N.O. sensors) MIU-12a - Provides input capability for up to 12 (N.C sensors)
N.O. = For use with Normally Open switches (standard version). N.C. = For use with Normally Closed switches (alternative version).

INSTALLATION
Switches or Sensors connect to the MULTIPLE INPUT UNIT via a female DB25 connector.
A separate male DB25 connector, with exposed terminals is supplied with this unit to allow direct solder connection of cables leading to each sensor.
Each sensor has been allocated two specific pin positions and should be connected to the DB25 connector as per the diagram and table on page 7.
Sensors can be located up to 100m from the MIU unit, or greater than 100m from the MIU if low resistance wiring is used.
Communication: Between the MULTIPLE INPUT UNIT and the TALKING DISPLAY UNIT is achieved via a standard 3 pair telephone cable. A short 3 pair telephone cable is supplied with the MIU. This can be substituted if necessary with any 3 pair cable with a length up to 100m.
Power: for the MIU is supplied from the TALKING DISPLAY UNIT via the same 3 pair cable. Note: a separate power adaptor jack has been fitted to the MULTIPLE INPUT UNIT to allow for direct connection of an optional 12VAC or 12VDC input (minimum 300mA, polarity independent).
This additional power input will only be required under the following circumstances :
1) To provide power for the attached sensors, where additional accessory units such as the SPEAKER SWITCHING UNIT or AUDIO SWITCHING UNIT are also used in the same application.
2) Where PIR’s are used with the MULTIPLE INPUT UNIT AND the complete system is to be run direct from a 12V battery source. In this situation, the 12V battery source should be fed to the TDU and the
MIU.
The use of the optional 12VAC or 12VDC input will prevent possibility of ‘Brown Out’ of one or more of the accessories or sensors.
SENSOR DETAILS
Switches for use with the MIU can be Normally Open (standard model) or Normally Closed (alternative model). See models on page 4.
1. NORMALLY OPEN SWITCHES do not need any modification.
2. NORMALLY CLOSED SWITCHES SWITCHES for use with the MIU Alternative Version need to be “normally
closed” and also need to be modified with a current limiting resistor, as per the diagram below :
PIR SENSORS need to have 1k resistors fitted as per the diagram below :
