DESCRIPTION
Model DP1 SURFACE MOUNT DOOR PHONE device is specifically designed for connection to a National Communications DOOR STATION CONTROLLER.
The Door Phone can operate at distances of up to 300 meters from the Controller providing high quality cabling such as CAT5 is used.
It connects to the Door Station Controller via 4 Wires, using a supplied 4 Phoenix Plug.
Up to two DP1 devices can be connected to the one DOOR STATION CONTROLLER. This allows for a DP1 to be located at two different locations. In this situation, the DP1 devices are connected in parallel.
DP1 is designed for wall or pole mounting at a height of approximately 1.5 meters (5 feet). Visitors should stand within 0.5 meters (20 inches) of the Door Phone for best results.
DP1 is designed to be highly WEATHER RESISTANT and has proven to be highly reliable over long periods of time providing it is not exposed to direct rain. The Speaker is made of a plastic Mylar material and great effort has been taken to maximise weather proofing all electronic components.
PLEASE NOTE: DP1 is not WATER PROOF.
If your Door Phone is exposed to excessive rain, a PERSPEX DOOR PHONE COVER is highly recommended to ensure that water from rain cannot gradually permeate through to the electronics of the Door Phone which can cause unreliable operation and can eventually lead to permanent failure of this device. See page 4 for further details.
A separate USER GUIDE will have been supplied with your DOOR STATION (CONTROLLER).
It is ESSENTIAL that you read both user guides fully before commencing installation as the satisfactory performance of this product is dependent on CORRECT INSTALLATION.

DOOR PHONE PERFORMANCE
This product is IDEAL for RESIDENTIAL or COMMERCIAL USE where ROAD NOISE is NOT HIGH. It is not designed for INDUSTRIAL USE where ambient noise can be constantly high.
The volume of the audio communication on the internal phones should be comfortably audible (although not quite as loud as a telephone call) providing:
The person at the Door Phone is talking directly towards the
Door Phone and at a distance of no more than 500-600mm away (2 feet).
The Door Phone is mounted at a height of about 1.5 meters
(5 feet). You can mount at a lower level to allow for very young children but volume may suffer. Please see page 4.
No plates or other material are placed over the front face of
the Door phone. Our Door Phone Cover accessory or a properly designed Rain Hood will not affect performance.
The volume of the audio communication at the Door Phone should be comfortably audible providing:
There is not excessive road noise or other noise near the Door
Phone as this will affect the automatic gain circuit used in this device.
That high quality ADSL FILTERING is fitted ahead of the DS
CONTROLLER where ADSL is used on the same line. If you do not do so, volume in both directions will be affected. Refer to your Door Station Controller User Guide for detailed information on the use of ADSL with this product.

MOUNTING THE DOOR PHONE
The DOOR PHONE should be mounted at the average face height of 1.5 meter (5 feet) for optimum performance.
The DP1 Surface Mount Door Phone unit is designed to be fitted onto a wall surface.
This is done by separating the Door Phone unit from the integral backing plate which is secured by a screw under the bottom lip of the Door Phone.
The backing plate should then be screwed to the wall surface before re-attaching the Door Phone with the securing screw.
DOOR PHONE COVER
If your Door Phone is exposed to excessive weather (in particular rain), an additional DOOR PHONE COVER may be required to ensure that water from rain cannot gradually permeate through to the electronics of DP1.
Failure to use a suitable Door Phone Cover can cause unreliable operation and can eventually lead to permanent failure of this device.
An accessory Door Phone Cover are made from strong 5mm transparent Perspex is available from Natcomm.
Order Code is DPC-1: RRP is $39.00 incl GST.

WIRING CONNECTION
4 wires are required for connection of DP1 and the DS Model Controller that it will be used with it. of DP1. These wires are connected to DP1 using a Phoenix Plug and Socket on the rear of DP1.
*** It is preferable to use solid core telephone cable, such as CAT5. *** Polarity of these wires is not important but connection points are.
4 WIRE CONNECTION – Polarity in not important:
Using CAT5 cable or similar solid core cabling, you should connect the Centre 2 pins (4 & 5) of the Door Phone RJ Connector on the Door Station Controller as above and Pins 3 & 6 of the Door Phone RJ Connector to the outer 2 terminals of the Phoenix connector located on the rear of DP1. See page 6.
An interface unit with screw terminals is supplied with all Door Station Controllers that provides a convenient means of connecting the solid core cable to DP1 and also power to any locks that may be used. If using this supplied interface box, the screw terminals connecting to the RED and GREEN wires should be connected to the centre terminals of the Phoenix connector on the rear of the DP1 unit and in the case of a 4 wire connection the BLACK and YELLOW wires connected to the outer two terminals of the Phoenix connector.
Polarity of these wires is not important but correct connection is.
The LED on the DOOR PHONE should then switch ON as soon as power is applied to the DS CONTROLLER.
Where Two Door Phones are to be used, they should both connect to the same terminals of the interface box (ie: parallel connection) as above.
Detailed information concerning LOCK CONTROL is provided within the User Guide supplied with your DOOR STATION CONTROLLER.

4 WIRE INSTALLATION: Use pins 4 & 5 of DS RJ Connector or RED & GREEN terminals of connector box + pins 3 & 6 of DS RJ Connector or BLACK & YELLOW terminals of connector box. Polarity is not
important.
LOCK 1 and/or LOCK 2: Controllers DS2, DS3, DS5, DS6 provide dry
contact relays for use with locks or other devices. Your DS Controller User Guide will detail uses and correct wiring configurations.

OPERATION
After initial Power Up, the Door Phone will take up to 5 seconds to initialise.
To commence a Door Phone call, you should press the Rectangular LED lit Perspex button on the Door Phone briefly. The LED will then turn OFF and you will hear a RING TONE until the call is answered.
This Door Phone will trigger a Door Station Controller that will either RING all the telephones connected to your telephone line, programmed extensions of a PBX system (Digital or VOIP), or it could Dial Out to an external telephone number (DS Controller model DS6 only).
As soon as the call is answered, you will be able to communicate with loud and clear call quality.
Our Door Phones use an intelligent, fast switching ‘half duplex’ communication method, as this provides for highest volume levels and eliminates feedback. With this method, the party that talks LOUDEST will take priority and will be connected to the other end.
After your Door Phone call is completed, there will be a delay of approximately 5 seconds before the unit has reset and is ready for the next call.
To test your Door Phone:
You will require two people – one to call and one to answer Do Not use a telephone in very close proximity of the Door
Phone as feedback will cause loss of volume.
