DESCRIPTION
Auto-Connect is a multi-functional Line Sharer which is designed to
allow TWO separate telephone devices to share a single telephone line. Under normal circumstances, only ONE device will answer incoming calls. BOTH attached devices will be able to make out going calls.
Auto-Connect provides an EXCLUSION FACILITY for the two devices attached to it. This means that if one device is in operation, the other device will not be able to access the telephone line (‘Barge-In’).
Four Micro Dip Switches are located on the underside of the unit and are used to your set your Auto-Connect to perform special functions:
1) RING DELAY FUNCTION (refer to page 5)
Auto-Connect provides a facility where an incoming call can be directed to the ACCESSORY DEVICE after a user selectable number of rings (4, 6 or 8 rings), if the call is not answered by the PRIMARY DEVICE.
2) EFT-POS FUNCTION (refer to page 6)
Auto-Connect provides a facility which will allow an EFT-POS device to be shared on an existing telephone line.
3) PABX PHONE SYSTEM FUNCTION (refer to page 6)
Auto-Connect can be used to connect an Answering Machine, Fax Machine, Modem, EFT-POS, Payphone, Automatic Dialler or ANY other telephone device to ANY PABX, Commander or Multi Line Telephone System.
4) MULTIPLE NUMBER FUNCTION (refer to page 7)
Auto-Connect has the ability to operate with the new Telstra Multiple Number service, where a second telephone number, associated with a different incoming ring can be used on the same telephone line. AutoConnect can be set to analyse the FIRST RING of all incoming calls and then switch the incoming call to the PRIMARY DEVICE PORT if the call is for your Normal Number or to the ACCESSORY DEVICE port if the call is for your Multiple Number.

INSTALLATION
1. UNPLUG all equipment from the telephone socket to be used.
2. REMOVE the telephone line cords that are fitted to the DEVICES
which need to be connected to your AUTO-CONNECT (ie unplug the telephone cables connected to your devices where the new style modular plug connects to your device).
3. TELEPHONE LINE CONNECTION
CONNECT the modular end of one of the cables which you have removed, to the TELEPHONE LINE port of the AUTO-CONNECT. Then CONNECT the other end, with the large old style male Telstra plug, direct to your telephone line socket.
4. PRIMARY DEVICE CONNECTION
(Primary Receiving Device or Primary Number Device) Using one of the supplied Modular - Modular line cords, CONNECT the device which you require to RECEIVE all incoming calls to the PRIMARY DEVICE port of the AUTO-CONNECT. If you are connecting a Fax or modem device, please ensure that it is set to the AUTO-ANSWER mode, and is set to ANSWER in the FEWEST POSSIBLE RINGS.
5. ACCESSORY DEVICE CONNECTION
(Alternative Receiving Device or Multiple Number Device) Using the remaining supplied Modular - Modular line cord, CONNECT the OTHER device to the ACCESSORY DEVICE port of the AUTOCONNECT.
6. SET DIP SWITCHES TO DESIRED SETTINGS
If operation is required with the Ring Delay (page 5), EFT-POS (page
6) or MULTIPLE NUMBER (page 7) options, please set the Dip Switches, located on the underside of the unit to the positions required.
If NO options are required, set all switches to the OFF position.
7. POWER ADAPTOR CONNECTION
CONNECT the supplied Power Supply and switch it ON.

RING DELAY OPTION
Auto-Connect has a facility where an incoming call can be directed to
the ACCESSORY DEVICE after a user selectable number of rings (4, 6 or 8 rings), if the call is not answered by the PRIMARY DEVICE.
This feature is ideal for sites wishing to operate a Fax Machine and a Fax/Modem on the same line, where both devices can send and where either device can answer.
Please Note - You must ensure that BOTH devices are set to the AUTOANSWER mode, and also set to ANSWER in the FEWEST POSSIBLE RINGS.
Similarly, this option is ideal for AFTER HOURS OPERATION with sites wishing to attach a telephone device (such as an Answering Machine, Fax, Modem or Security System) to a normal voice line, so that if the call is unanswered after a user preset number of rings (4, 6 or 8 rings), the attached telephone device will be allowed to answer the call.
Dip Switches 3 and 4, located on the underside of the unit are used to set this feature.
If the Ring Delay facility is not required for your application, then you should set Dip Switches 3 and 4 to the OFF position.
If the Ring Delay facility is required for your application, please refer to the following table.
Note - The Ring Delay facility can also be used in conjunction with the EFT-POS or MULTIPLE NUMBER options.

EFT -POS OPERATION
Auto-Connect has a special facility which will allow an EFT-POS device to
be shared with any other device on an existing telephone line. An EXCLUSION FACILITY is provided to ensure that the two attached
devices can not interfere with each other. This means that if one device is in operation, the other device will not be able to access the telephone line (‘Barge-In’).
The other device can be a Fax Machine, Modem or any other telephone device using a dedicated line. The other device can also be one or more telephones using an ordinary voice telephone line. In this situation, BargeIn protection can only be provided when all telephones are connected direct to the Primary Port of the unit. Technical installation may be required. Please refer to the following table.

PABX SYSTEM OPERATION
Auto-Connect
can be used to connect an Answering Machine, Fax Ma-
chine, Modem, EFT-POS, Payphone, Automatic Dialler or
ANY other telephone device to ANY PABX, Commander or Multi Line Telephone System.
This is done by connecting the Auto-Connect direct to an incoming telephone line, prior to the system controller. A Telephone Technician will connect the incoming line direct to the TELEPHONE LINE Port and then connect the PRIMARY DEVICE port direct to the Primary Receiving Device. The ACCESSORY DEVICE port will then be connected to the other device (usually a Dial Out device only).
An EXCLUSION FACILITY is provided to ensure that the two attached devices can not interfere with each other. This means that if one device is in operation, the other device will not be able to access the telephone line (‘Barge-In’). Technical installation is required. Please call (07)55965128 for further details.

MULTIPLE NUMBER SWITCHING
Auto-Connect has the ability to operate with the new Telstra Multiple
Number service, where a second telephone number can be used on the same telephone line. It will analyse the FIRST INCOMING RING for all calls and connect the incoming call only to those telephones that are required to RING. BARGE-IN protection is provided, to ensure that a conversation taking place on one number (for example your business number), cannot be interrupted by any telephone that is connected to the other number (for example your personal number).
When your EXISTING TELEPHONE NUMBER is called, Auto-Connect will connect this call direct to the telephone(s) that are connected to the PRIMARY DEVICE port of the Line Sharer. These telephones will RING as normal, following a delay of 1 RING, which the Line Sharer uses to determine the number called.
When your NEW MULTIPLE NUMBER is called, your telephone exchange will immediately generate a NEW RING PATTERN down your line, which is different to your normal ring pattern. This new DISTINCTIVE RING pattern will be detected during the first incoming ring, at which point it will connect the incoming call to the telephone(s) that are connected to the ACCESSORY DEVICE port of the Line Sharer. These telephones will then RING (with a slightly different pattern), following a delay of 1 RING, which the Line Sharer uses to determine the number called.
Regardless of the number that has been called, the operation of the Line Sharer is TRANSPARENT. Your caller will simply hear the NORMAL RING PATTERN until the call has been answered. All telephone equipment used on the EXISTING NUMBER (such as a Cordless Telephone, Answering Machine, Fax Machine, Modem or other device) will not be affected by the installation of the Line Sharer or the use of the alternative NEW NUMBER. They will continue to operate as normal.
