WARNING
DO NOT SUBSTITUTE MATERIALS.
USE CARE WHEN HANDLING GLASS COMPONENTS DO NOT STIKE, OR SLAM SHUT.
DO NOT OPERATE WITH BROKEN GLASS.
The glass is 3/16” ceramic glass available from your Napoleon® / Wolf Steel Ltd. dealer. Clean the glass after the fi rst 10 hours of operation with a recommended gas fi replace glass cleaner. Thereafter clean as required. DO NOT CLEAN GLASS WHEN HOT! Do not use abrasive cleaners to clean plated parts. Buff lightly with a clean dry cloth. If the glass is not kept clean permanent discolouration and / or blemishes may result.
VENTING
VENTING LENGTHS
For safe and proper operation of the fi replace follow the venting instruction exactly.
The GT8N/P must be terminated horizontally only.
The vent connection to the fi replace can be viewed by removing the baffl e from the top, inside of the fi rebox. Vent lengths that pass through unheated spaces (attics, garages, crawl spaces) should be insulated with the insulation wrapped in a protective sleeve to minimize condensation.
Venting terminals shall not be recessed into a wall or siding.
Use only Wolf Steel Ltd. fl exible vent components with the Wolf Steel Ltd. GD179 termination kit.
With fl exible venting, in conjunction with the GD178 wall terminal kit, use either the 5 foot vent kit GDT5 or the 10 foot vent kit GDT10. These kits allow for extended horizontal venting of the fi replace.
The maximum allowable vent length is 10’ feet using exible venting. The maximum number of allowable 3” vent connections is one (excluding the fi replace and the air terminal connections).
For optimum fl ame appearance and fi replace performance, keep the vent length and number of elbows to a minimum. The air terminal must remain unobstructed at all times. Examine the air terminal at least once a year to verify that it is
unobstructed and undamaged.
Horizontal runs may have a 0 inch rise per foot in all cases when venting as illustrated in For optimum performance, it is recommended that all horizontal runs have a minimum ¼ inch rise per foot.
When venting, the horizontal run must be kept to a minimum of 4” inches or a maximum of 72”. If a 72” horizontal run is required, the fi replace must have a minimum vertical rise immediately off the fi replace of 18”.
Figures 2a, 2b, and 2c.
Do not allow the inside liner to bunch up on horizontal runs and elbows. Keep it pulled tight. A the inner and outer liner all around is required for safe operation.
Use fi restop spacer (W500-0358) when penetrating interior walls and ceilings.

INSTALLATION / FRAMING
WALL AND CEILING PROTECTION
This application occurs when venting through an exterior wall. Having determined the air terminal location, cut and frame a hole in an exterior wall with a minimum square opening of 8” W x 8” H.
IMPORTANT: For optimum performance, The vent pipe should rise ¼” per foot of run.
1. Apply a bead of caulking all around and place the fi restop spacer over the framework to restrict cold air from being drawn into the room or around the fi replace. Ensure that both spacer and shield maintain the required clearance to combustibles. Secure the spacer in place using the 4 longer screws supplied. Once the vent pipe is installed in its fi nal position, apply high temperature sealant (not supplied) between the pipe and the restop spacer.
USING FLEXIBLE VENT COMPONENTS
USE ONLY WOLF STEEL LTD. 3” / 5” FLEXIBLE VENT COMPONENTS.
Use only approved aluminum fl exible vent kits marked:
“Wolf Steel Approved Venting” as identifi ed by the stamp on the fl exible vent pipe.
Spacers are attached to the fl exible vent pile at predetermined intervals to maintain a 3/4” air
pipe. These spacers must not be removed.
For safe and proper operation of the fi replace, follow the venting instructions exactly. All inner exhaust and outer intake vent pipe joints may be sealed using either Red RTV high temp silicone sealant or Black high temp Mill Pac with the exception of the fi replace exhaust fl ue collar which must be sealed using Mill Pac (W573-0007 not supplied).

TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE
BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO TROUBLESHOOT, PURGE YOUR UNIT AND INITIALLY LIGHT THE IGNITOR AND THE MAIN BURNER WITH THE GLASS DOOR OPEN.
SYMPTOM PROBLEM TEST SOLUTION
Electrode sparks, burner ignites, electrode contiunes to spark for complete 7 seconds, burner shuts down.
Main burner fl ame is a blue, lazy, transparent ame.
Flame length consistently too large or too small. Carboning occurs.
Carbon is being deposited on glass, logs or combustion chamber surfaces.
White / grey fi lm forms.
Exhaust fumes smelled in room, headaches.
No gas to the main burner; switch / thermostat is on.
Burner will not light, ignitor sparks.
Ignitor will not spark.
Remote wall switch is in “OFF” position; burner comes on.
Hot and neutral wires are reversed at control module.
Blockage in vent.
Unit is over-fi red or under-fi red. - Check pressure readings
Air shutter has become blocked. - Ensure air shutter opening is free of lint or other obstructions.
Flame is impinging on the combustion chamber.
Sulphur from fuel is being deposited on glass, logs or combustion chamber surfaces.
Fireplace is spilling.
Thermostat or switch is defective.
Main burner orifi ce is blocked. - Remove stoppage in ori ce.
Control valve faulty. - Replace.
Faulty valve. - Replace.
No gas at the burner.
Out of propane gas. - Fill the tank.
No spark at ignitor.
Spark gap is incorrect.
Wall switch is mounted upside down.
Remote wall switch is grounding. - Replace.
Remote wall switch wire is grounding.
Faulty wire.
- Connect the hot wire to the black wire. Connect the neutral wire to the white wire.
- Remove blockage. In extremely cold conditions, ice buildup may occur on the terminal and should be removed as required.
- Outlet pressure can be checked by removing cap (A) and replacing it with a 1/8” NPT barb fi tting. Next, place pressure gauge tubing over the fi tting. Gauge should read 3.5” W.C. for natural gas or
10.0” W.C. for propane. AFTER TAKING PRESSURE READINGS, BE SURE TO REPLACE CAP TO RESEAL. DO NOT OVER-TORQUE.
- Leak test with a soap and water solution.
- Open air shutter to increase the primary air.
- Check the input rate: check the manifold pressure and orifi ce size as specifi ed by the rating plate values.
- Check that the door gasketing is not broken or missing and that the seal is tight.
- Check that both 3” and 5” vent liners are free of holes and well sealed at all joints.
- Check that the minimum rise per foot has been adhered to for any horizontal venting.
- Clean the glass with a gas fi replace glass cleaner. DO NOT CLEAN GLASS WHEN HOT. If deposits are not cleaned off regularly, the glass may become permanently marked.
- Check door seal.
- Check for chimney blockage.
- Ensure that the paint curing process is complete.
- Connect a jumper wire across the wall switch terminals; if main burner lights, replace switch / thermostat.
- Check that the manual valve is turned on.
- Replace the valve.
- Check the power source. (ie. fuse, circuit breaker)
- Check that the wire is connected to both the ignitor and the control module.
- Check that the spark is not jumping to ignitor cover.
- Replace the wire if the wire insulation is broken or frayed.
- Replace the electrode if the ceramic insulator is cracked or broken.
- Spark gap should be 0.125” (1/8” approx.) from the electrode tip to the sensor tip.
- Reverse.
- Check for ground (short); repair ground or replace wire.
- Replace.
