Information zum Vorbild
Auch die E 40/BR 140 entstammt dem Neubeschaffungsprogramm
der 1950er-Jahre. Technisch gesehen ist die E 40 eine für den Güterzugdienst modifizierte E 10.1. Sie besitzt den gleichen Lokkasten,
nahezu die gleiche Mechanik und Elektronik, unterscheidet sich
aber in einigen Merkmalen von ihren schnelleren Schwestern.
Die E 40 hat keine elektrische Bremse, eine andere Getriebeübersetzung, dadurch eine geringere Höchstgeschwindigkeit und eine
andere Dachhaube mit weniger Lüftergitterrosten. Für die Lackierung der Lok wurde das klassische Chromdioxid-Grün gewählt, das
elegante Blau war nur Schnellzuglokomotiven vorbehalten. Die
E 40, ab 1968 als BR 140 gereiht, war für den mittelschweren Güterzugdienst vorgesehen, sie wanderte aber auch in andere Dienste
ab, besonders als die Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 100 km/h auf
110 km/h erhöht wurde. Man fand sie somit auch vor Silberlingen
und während der Olympischen Spiele 1972 in München auch im
S-Bahn-Dienst. Das Hauptaufgabengebiet blieb aber bis heute der
Güterzugdienst.
31 Lokomotiven der Baureihe E 40 wurden speziell für den Einsatz
auf Steilstrecken, wie der Höllentalbahn, mit einer GleichstromWiderstandsbremse ausgestattet. Sie wurden als E 40.11, ab 1968
als BR 139 eingereiht. Später wurden die verbliebenen Lokomotiven der BR 139 in München zusammengezogen, von wo sie bis
zum Brennerpass, auch gemeinsam mit Loks der BR 140, im Einsatz waren.
Die Baureihe E 40/140 ist mit ihren Untervarianten die meistgebaute Variante des Einheitslokomotivprogramms der jungen
Deutschen Bundesbahn. 879 Exemplare waren Jahrzehnte lang
hauptverantwortlich für den mittelschweren Güterzugdienst, ihre
Ausmusterung ist aber bis auf wenige Lokomotiven abzusehen
oder bereits vollzogen.
Information about the Prototype
The class E 40/140 also came from the new procurement program
of the Fifties. From a technical point of view the class E 40 is a
class E 10.1 modified for freight service. It had the same locomotive body, almost the same mechanical and electrical systems, but
it differed in several features from its faster siblings. The class
E 40 had no electric brakes, a different gear ratio, which meant
a lower top speed, and a different roof with fewer ventilation
grills. The classic chrome oxide green was chosen for the paint
scheme; the elegant blue was kept only for express locomotives.
The class E 40, from 1968 on designated as the class 140, was
designed for medium heavy freight service, but it wandered into
other types of service, particularly when the top speed was raised from 100 km/h / 63 mph to 110 km/h / 69 mph. It could be seen
pulling “Silberlinge” commuter cars and during the 1972 Olympic
Games in Munich in S-Bahn service too. The main area of use
remained and still is freight service.
Thirty one of the class E 40 locomotives were specially equipped
with direct current resistance brakes for use on steep grades
such as the Höllentalbahn or Valley of Hell Railroad. They were
designated as the class E 40.11 and later starting in 1968 as the
class 139. Later, the remaining class 139 locomotives were assembled together in Munich, where they were used along with
the class 140 locomotives in service up to the Brenner Pass.
The class E 40/140, with its sub-variations, was the locomotive
type built in the largest quantities in the standard design program
of the new German Federal Railroad. A total of 879 units were
mainly responsible for medium heavy freight service over a period of decades. Except for a few locomotives, they are in the process of being retired or are already completely retired.

Ook de E 40/BR 140 stamt uit het nieuwe aanschafprogramma uit
de jaren 1950. Technisch gezien is de E 40 een voor de goederentreindienst gemodificeerde BR E 10.1. Ze bezit dezelfde locbak,
bijna hetzelfde mechaniek en elektronica, maar onderscheidt
zich in enkele kenmerken van haar snellere zusters. De E 40 heeft
geen elektrische rem, een andere overbrengingsverhouding,
waardoor een geringere maximumsnelheid, en een andere dakhuif met minder ventilatorroosters. Voor de kleurstelling van de
loc werd het klassieke chroomoxidegroen gekozen, het elegante
blauw was slechts aan sneltreinlocomotieven voorbehouden. De
E 40, vanaf 1968 als BR 140 ingedeeld, was voor de middelzware
goederentreindienst bedoeld, ze bediende echter ook andere
diensten, vooral toen de maximumsnelheid van 100 km/h naar
110 km/h verhoogd werd. Men vond ze daarom ook voor Silberlingen en tijdens de Olympische Spelen in 1972 in München ook in de
S-Bahn-dienst. Het voornaamste takenpakket bleef echter tot op
heden de goederentreindienst.
31 locomotieven van de serie E 40 werden speciaal voor de inzet

E 40 est une E 10.1 transformée pour le service marchandises.
Dotée de la même superstructure, de dispositifs mécaniques et
électroniques quasi identiques, elles se distingue toutefois par
quelques points de sa grande sœur, plus rapide. La E 40 n’est
pas équipée de freins électriques, possède un autre rapport de
réduction – et donc de ce fait une vitesse maximale moindre – et
un lanterneau différent avec moins de grilles d’aération. Pour la
livrée, on opta pour le classique vert dioxyde de chrome, le bleu
étant exclusivement réservé aux locomotives pour trains rapides.
La E 40, à partir de 1968 immatriculée dans la série BR 140, était
prévue pour le service marchandises de poids moyen, mais elle
fut également affectée à d’autres services, surtout lorsque sa
vitesse maximale passa de 100 à 110 km/h. On put alors la voir
remorquant des «Silberlinge» ou encore dans le service régional
express durant les jeux olympiques de Munich en 1972. Jusqu’à
présent, son domaine d’affectation principal reste toutefois le
service marchandises.
31 locomotives de la série E 40 furent spécialement équipées d‘un
frein rhéostatique à courant continu pour le service sur les lignes
à forte déclivité telles que le Höllentalbahn. Elles furent immatriculées dans la série E 40.11, puis dans la série BR 139 à partir
de 1968. Plus tard, les locomotives restantes de la série BR 139
furent rassemblées à Munich d’où elles circulèrent jusqu’au col
du Brenner, parfois avec les locos de la série BR 140.
Avec ses séries dérivées, la E 40/140 représente la variante la
plus construite du programme d’unification de la jeune Deutsche
Bundesbahn. Durant des décennies, 879 unités furent les principales responsables du trafic marchandises de poids moyen ; à
l‘exception de quelques locomotives, leur réforme est toutefois
imminente, voire déjà réalisée.

gelijktijdig gevoed worden.
• Lees ook aandachtig de veiligheidsvoorschriften in de gebruiksaanwijzing van uw bedrijfssysteem.
• Voor het conventionele bedrijf met de loc dient de aansluitrail
te worden ontstoort. Hiervoor dient men de ontstoor-set 74046
te gebruiken. Voor het digitale bedrijf is deze ontstoor-set niet
geschikt.
• OPGEPAST! Functionele scherpe kanten en punten.
• Stel het model niet bloot aan in directe zonnestraling, sterke
temperatuurwisselingen of hoge luchtvochtigheid.
Belangrijke aanwijzing
• De gebruiksaanwijzing en de verpakking zijn een bestanddeel

Aviso de seguridad
• La locomotora solamente debe funcionar en un sistema de
corriente propio (Märklin AC – Märklin Delta –
Märklin Digital o Märklin Systems).
• Emplear únicamente fuentes de alimentación conmutadas y
transformadores que sean de la tensión de red local.
• La alimentación de la locomotora deberá realizarse desde
una sola fuente de suminitro.

Observe bajo todos los conceptos, las medidas de seguridad
indicadas en las instrucciones de su sistema de funcionamiento.
• Para el funcionamiento convencional de la locomotora deben
suprimirse las interferencias en la vía de conexión de la
alimentación. Para ello debe emplearse el set supresor de
interferencias 74046. El set supresor de interferencias no es
adecuado para el funcionamiento en modo digital.
• ¡ATENCIÓN! Esquinas y puntas afiladas condicionadas a la
función.
• No exponer el modelo en miniatura a la radiación solar directa, a oscilaciones fuertes de temperatura o a una humedad
del aire elevada.
Notas importantes
• Las instrucciones de empleo y el embalaje forman parte íntegra
del producto y, por este motivo, deben guardarse y entregarse
junto con el producto en el caso de venderlo o transmitirlo a
otro.
• Para reparaciones o recambios contacte con su proveedor

• Nel funzionamento analogico si hanno a disposizione solamente le funzioni di marcia e di commutazione dei fanali.
Avvertenze per la sicurezza
• Tale locomotiva deve essere impiegata soltanto con un sistema
di funzionamento adeguato per questa (Märklin AC,
Märklin Delta, Märklin Digital oppure Märklin Systems).
• Impiegare soltanto alimentatori “switching“ e trasformatori
che corrispondono alla Vostra tensione di rete locale.
• La locomotiva non deve venire alimentata nello stesso tempo
con più di una sorgente di potenza.
• Vogliate prestare assolutamente attenzione alle avvertenze
di sicurezza nelle istruzioni di impiego per il Vostro sistema di
funzionamento.
• Per il funzionamento tradizionale della locomotiva il binario di
alimentazione deve essere protetto dai disturbi. A tale scopo
si deve impiegare il corredo antidisturbi 74046. Tale corredo
antidisturbi non è adatto per il funzionamento Digital.
• AVVERTENZA! Per motivi funzionali i bordi e le punte sono
spigolosi.
• Non esponete tale modello ad alcun irraggiamento solare
diretto, a forti escursioni di temperatura oppure a elevata
umidità dell’aria.

Säkerhetsanvisningar

• När motorvagnens lokdel ska köras med konventionell/
analog drift måste anlutningsskenan vara avstörd. Till detta
använder man anslutningsgarnityr 74046 med avstörning och
överbelastningsskydd. Avstörningsskyddet får inte användas
vid digital körning.
• VARNING! Funktionsbetingade vassa kanter och spetsar.
• Modellen får inte utsättas för direkt solljus, häftiga temperaturväxlingar eller hög luftfuktighet.
