Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the X-TONE. By using the X-TONE to fine tune your system we sincerely hope that you gain many years of musical pleasure from your Hi-Fi.
Installation Precautions
Your new X-TONE is designed and built to provide trouble-free performance, as with all electronic devices it is however necessary to observe a few precautions. Please ensure that you have complied with these before you connect the power to your X-TONE. Retain this guide for future reference.
Both the Bass and Treble Controls have 3 different selectable frequencies of operation. The Bass control can operate at 30, 60 or 120Hz (or be defeated) whilst the Treble control can operate at 5kHz, 10kHz or 15kHz (or be defeated). Both Bass and Treble controls provide up to 9dB of boost or cut with a centre click indicating the 'flat' (i.e. no boost or cut) position.
In order to achieve the sound balance that you are looking for we would suggest that you experiment with these controls both to familiarise yourself with their operation and to find the optimum settings which best suit your system.
nn Do not use the X-TONE near water. nn Keep the X-TONE away from heat sources such as
radiators.
nn Only use the mains adaptor provided. The use of
other adaptors could seriously damage your XTONE.
nn Place all connecting cables where they are not likely
to be walked on or trapped by items placed on them.
This Hi-Fi product has been tested to ensure that its operation will not be adversely affected by normal background levels of R.F.I. (Radio Frequency Interference). It is possible that if the unit is subjected to abnormally high levels of R.F.I. the unit may not perform as expected. In the unlikely event of this happening please contact Musical Fidelity's service department.
Do not remove any covers, the X-TONE will not be covered under warranty if it has been tampered with. There are no adjustments within. Please refer all service work to an authorised Musical Fidelity agent.
Operation
The X-TONE has been specifically designed as a fine adjustment tone control module allowing you to tailor your systems frequency response without affecting the important midrange frequencies. This preserves the tone and timbre of music often lost with less subtle tone controls.
Connections
All connections should be made before the mains adaptor is
plugged in.
The X-Tone can be used either to process the sound of an individual component in your system or the overall sound of the whole system. To process an individual component connect the XTONE between the component's output and your amplifier's input as shown.
Alternatively to affect the overall system response you can connect the X-TONE between Pre and Power Amplifiers, see below.
In some cases the X-TONE can also be inserted in the Tape Monitor Loop of your amplifier. If you are in any way unsure of whether the X-TONE can be suitably connected into your system please consult you dealer who should be able to help and advise you.
For the best results we recommend that you use Musical Fidelity X-LINX "No-Nonsense" interconnect cables for all connections.
The X-TONE has been designed to be left on indefinitely.
