Introduction
What is TiffMaker
TiffMaker is a print driver that converts files into Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) from your software
application.
For example, if you send a TIFF file converted by TiffMaker to the Muratec Internet Fax via e-mail, you
can use the Muratec Internet Fax machine as a PC printer. Also, by using the e-mail forwarding feature
on the Muratec Internet Fax machine, you can send your electronic document to a remote fax machine
without printing. For more information, please see “Important features using your TiffMaker and e-mail
software,” located on page 10 of this manual.
System Requirements
TiffMaker requires one of the following Windows PC environments in order to run properly.

Hard disk space: At least 12 MB of available disk space is needed for installing.
You must also have adaquate free space in order to save your converted TIFF files.

Download the TiffMaker
TiffMaker is a free softwarepackage that is available from the following web sites.

Installing the TiffMaker
Download the TiffMaker from the appropriate Muratec web site. (See the previous page.)

Double click on the downloaded file (TM.exe) to extract the TiffMaker files.

From the Start menu, choose Run and browse through the directory in which you saved the down-

loaded installer file (the name is TMSetup.exe). Click OK.
The Welcome dialog boxwill appear. Click Next.

Carefully reveiw the end user license agreement. Then click Yes if you agree.

Choose the directory in which you want to install TiffMaker. To install it in a directory otherthan the

default directory, click Browse and locate the directory of your choice. If a directory does not exist,
the installer will create onefor you. Click Next.
Note: Do not install TiffMaker on a network drive.

The installer has collected the necessary information and is ready to begin installation. Click Next.

The installer will begin to copy files to your computer.
Select “Yes, I want to restart my computer now”, and then click Finish.

After rebooting your computer, you must install the print driver as instucted below.

Note: The following example is for Windows 2000 users. According to your Windows version, the proce-
dure may vary. If this is the case, follow the instructions as they appear on screen.
Click Add Printer in the Printer Task to start the Add Printer Wizard. Click Next.

Select “Local printer attached to this computer”, then click Next.

Note: Check off the “Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer.”
Select “Muratec TiffMaker Port” as your printer port, then click Next.

When the Install Printer Software screen appears, click Have Disk.

Locate the directory in which you saved the downloaded TiffMaker installer file.

You will find the Driver folder in that directory.
If your Windows version is Windows 95, 98 or Me, click on the Win9x folder and then click Open.
If your Windows version is Windows NT 4.0 or 2000 click on the Winnt4_2K folder and then click
Open.
Click OK.

Confirm that the “Muratec OfficeBridge TiffMaker” is selected, then click Next.

Set “Muratec OfficeBridge TiffMaker” as the printer name, then click Next.

When the Printer Sharing screen appears, select “Do not share this printer” and click Next.

When the Printer Test Page screen appears, select “No” and click Next.

Click Finish to complete the installation.

Creating a TIFF file with the Muratec TiffMaker
Open the document you want to convert in its authoring application.

Choose Print from the File menu.

Choose “Muratec TiffMaker” from the Printer Name menu, select any other desired print options,

and click Print or OK.
Note: In some applications, you may need to click Setup in the Print dialog box to gain access to the
Printer Name menu.
Note: In the Printer properties dialog box, you can choose “Tiff(MH)” or “Tiff(MMR)” as the File for-
mat. In general, MMR offers a higher compression method than MH.
TiffMaker will ask you where to place the TIFF file.

Select the desired location and enter the file name, then click Save.
Note: By default, TiffMaker will append the extension “.tif” and place the file into the PRINT folder
under Muratec TiffMaker folder.

Note: To use these features, both the TiffMaker and e-mail software must be installed on your computer.
Using your Muratec Internet Fax as a PC Printer
By sending a TIFF file that has been converted by the TiffMaker to the Muratec Internet Fax via e-mail,
you can utilize the Muratec Internet Fax as a PC printer.
Create a document in any application.

Use the TiffMaker to convert the electronic file into TIFF format.(See “Converting the electronic file

to TIFF,” page 9.)
Attach the TIFF file that has been converted by TiffMaker to e-mail, and send it to the Muratec

Internet FAX.
The Muratec Internet Fax will receive the e-mail and print the TIFF file that has been attached.

The Muratec Internet Fax can forward received e-mail to other fax machine(s) whose fax numbers have
been designated in the e-mail text. By using this feature with TiffMaker, you can send documents to other
fax machine(s) without using paper.
Create a document in any application.

Use the TiffMaker to convert the electronic file into TIFF format. (See “Converting the electronic file

to TIFF, ”page 9.)
Attach the TIFF file that has been converted by TiffMaker to e-mail.

To forward the e-mail to other fax machine(s), the forwarding command containing the designated
4
FAX number should be contained in the text of the e-mail.
To designate Fax Forwarding numbers in the text of the mail, please see “Forwarding the received
e-mail to fax” on pages 5.15 –5.17 of your Internet Fax Kit manual.

Uninstalling the TiffMaker
Open the Printers window.

Right click on the Muratec OfficeBridge TiffMaker, and click Delete.

After deleting the “Muratec OfficeBridge TiffMaker” fromthe Printers window, open the “Add/Remove

Programs” window from the Control Panel.
Select “OfficeBridge TiffMaker” and click Change/Remove.

Follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

To finish uninstalling completely, restart your Windows.
