A Fire Retardant and Waterproof Deck
System for Above Grade Applications.
DESCRIPTION AND USE
The MULTICOAT SLATEX ABOVE GRADE SYSTEM is a multi-layer protective coating designed
for decks 200 sq. ft. or less. For decks larger
than 200 sq. ft., please refer to the SLATEX SYSTEM re-inforced with 2.5 galvanized metal lath.
This system combines an elastomeric waterproofing membrane (MULASTICOAT) with a
fiberglass re-inforced, synthetic resin modified
ementitious top coating (KRETE KOTE 2000 or
c
TOP COAT 2000).
The SLATEX ABOVE GRADE SYSTEM is
designed to withstand heavy foot traffic on
decks, ramps, walkways, etc. The SLATEX
ABOVE GRADE SYSTEM can be applied to
concrete, wood, magnesite and most other surfaces or substrates in need of a waterproofing
and/or fir
e resistant protective coating.

ucturally sound, free from all grease, oil,
str
paint, dirt, dust, sealers, curing compounds,
and other foreign materials which may
prevent proper bonding. Substrates should be
constructed in compliance with all applicable
building codes.
Plywood substrates, including tongue and
groove plywood, must be 5/8” minimum thickness, exterior grade CC PTS plywood, 16”
maximum suppor
all fastened with 8 penny ring shank nails or
equivalent, on maximum 6” centers. (NOTE:
Plywood must be nailed on all four sides.)
Moisture content should be below 15%. Use

APPLICATION
oat all plywood joints, flashings, posts, drains, coves, stairwells
C
nd other irregularities with MULASTICOAT; embed with
a
Stitchbonded Polyester Fabric; apply additional MULASTICOAT to
saturate fabric, and allow to dry. MULASTICOAT is then applied
over entire substrate in two (2) coats with roller, using firm pressure. (See "COVERAGE" below.)
irst coat is allowed to dry to touch, usually 1-2 hours depending
F
n ambient temperature. Second coat is applied crisscross to first
o
oat. Allow MULASTICOAT to fully dry before proceeding with
c
KRETE KOTE/TOP COAT 2000 surfacing. DO NOT ALLOW
MULASTICOAT TO BE EXPOSED FOR MORE THAN 3 DAYS.
Before proceeding, remove dust from MULASTICOAT with damp
sponge.
irst coat of KRETE KOTE/TOP COAT 2000 (see KRETE KOTE
F
2000 instructions for mixing information) is applied with roller,
squeegee or trowel; fiberglass mesh is immediately embedded
and troweled down firmly. Minimum 2 hours initial cure, longer in
cool weather.
Second coat of KRETE KOTE/TOP COAT 2000 is applied firmly
with trowel. Minimum 2 hours cure time, longer in cool weather.
Third coat is applied with trowel or hopper gun, depending upon
whether smooth or textured finish is desired. Allow to cure a
minimum of twelve (12) hours before allowing foot traffic and
seventy-two (72) hours minimum for vehicular traffic, longer in
cool weather.
Not responsible for cracks and delamination caused by
structural movement, improper substrate or application -
SEE WARRANTY.
Do not bridge expansion or control joints with the Slatex
System. All expansion or control joints must be cut and
cleaned out and filled with approved caulking material.
COLORSEAL (Recommended)
Apply two coats of COLORSEAL (Refer to COLORSEAL
Instructions for use.”) Allow minimum 24 hour cure before allowing
“
oot traffic and minimum 72 hours before allowing vehicle traffic.
