This warranty covers ONLY defects in material and workmanship. Sears will NOT pay for:
• Expendable items that become worn during normal use, including but not limited to spark plug, air cleaner,
belts, and oil filter.
Standard maintenance servicing, oil changes, or tune-ups.
Tire replacement or repair caused by punctures from outside objects, such as nails, thorns, stumps, or glass.
Tire or wheel replacement or repair resulting from normal wear, accident, or improper operation or
maintenance.
Repairs necessary because of operator abuse, including but not limited to damage caused by over-speeding
the engine, or from impacting objects that bend the frame, auger shaft, etc.
Repairs necessary because of operator negligence, including but not limited to, electrical and mechanical
damage caused by improper storage, failure to use the proper grade and amount of engine oil, or failure to
maintain the equipment according to the instructions contained in the operator's manual.
Engine (fuel system) cleaning or repairs caused by fuel determined to be contaminated or oxidized (stale). In
general, fuel should be used within 30 days of its purchase date.
Normal deterioration and wear of the exterior finishes, or product label replacement.
This warranty applies only while this product is within the United States.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.

PREPARATION

SAFE HANDLING OF GASOLINE
Toavoidpersonalinjuryor propertydamageuseextremecarein
handlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremelyflammableandthevaporsare
explosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycanoccurwhengasolineis spilled
onyourselforyourclotheswhichcan ignite. Washyourskinand
changeclothesimmediately.
• Useonlyan approvedgasolinecontainer.
• Extinguishallcigarettes,cigars,pipes,andothersourcesof
ignition.
• Neverfuelmachineindoors.
• Neverremovegas capor addfuel whiletheengineishotor
running.
• Allowenginetocoolat leasttwo minutesbeforerefueling.
• Neveroverfillthefueltank.Filltanktono morethan1/2inch
belowbottomoffiller neckto providespaceforfuelexpansion.
• Replacegasolinecapandtightensecurely.
• Ifgasolineisspilled,wipeitofftheengineandequipmentand
movemachineto anotherarea.Waitfive (5)minutesbefore
startingtheengine.
• Neverstorethemachineorfuelcontainerinsidewherethereisan
openflame,sparkor pilotlightas onawaterheater,spaceheater,
furnace,clothesdryer orothergas appliances.
• Allowmachinetocoolatleastfive(5)minutesbeforestoring.
Whenstabilizinglog withlefthand,removeyourhandwhenthe
wedgejustcontactsthelogor seriousinjurymayoccur.
7. Whenloadinga log, alwaysplaceyourhandsonthesideof the
log,noton theends,and neveruseyourfoottohelpstabilizea
log.Failuretodo so,mayresultin crushedoramputatedfingers,
toes,hand,or foot.
8. Useonlyyourrighthandtooperatethecontrols.
9. Neverattemptto split morethanonelogata time.
10. Forlogswhicharenotcutsquare,theleastsquareendandthe
longestportionof thelog shouldbeplacedtowardthebeamand
wedge,andthesquareend placedtowardtheendplate.
11. Whensplittingintheverticalposition,stabilizethelogbefore
movingthecontrolhandle.Splitas follows:
• Placelogon the endplateandturnuntilit leansagainstthe
beamand is stable.
• Whensplittingextralargeorunevenlogs,thelogmustbe
stabilizedwithwoodenshimsor splitwoodbetweenthe log
andend plateorground.
12. Alwayskeepfingersawayfromanycracksthatopenin thelog
whilesplitting.Theycanquicklycloseandpinchor amputateyour
fingers.
13. Keepyourworkareaclean.Immediatelyremovesplitwood
aroundthemachineso youdo notstumbleoverit.
14. Donotchangetheenginegovernorsettingsoroverspeedthe
engine.Thegovernorcontrolsthe maximumsafeoperatingspeed
ofthe engine.
15. Nevermovethismachinewhiletheengineis running.
16. Thismachineshouldnotbe towedonanystreet,highwayor
publicroadwithoutcheckingtheexistingfederal,state,orlocal
vehiclerequirements.Anylicensingormodificationssuchas
taillights,etc.,neededto comply,isthe soleresponsibilityofthe
purchaser.Ifa "Statementof Origin"is requiredinyour state,see
yourlocaldealer.

18.SeeTransportingtheLogSplittersectioninthismanualforproper
towinginstructionsonceallfederal,local,orstaterequirements
aremet.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
1. Stoptheengine,disconnectthesparkplugandgrounditagainst
theenginebeforecleaning,orinspectingthemachine.
2. Stopthe engineandrelievehydraulicsystempressurebycycling
thevalvecontrolleverfromforwardto reverseseveraltimeswhile
engineisnot running;returningto neutralbeforerepairingor
adjustingfittings,hoses,tubing,orothersystemcomponents.
3. Topreventfires,cleandebrisandchafffromtheengineand
mufflerareas.Ifthe engineis equippedwitha sparkarrester
muffler,cleanand inspectit regularlyaccordingto manufacturers
instructions.Replaceif damaged.
4. Periodicallycheckthatall nutsandbolts,hoseclamps,and
hydraulicfittingsaretightto besureequipmentis insafeworking
condition.
5. Checkallsafetyguardsandshieldstobe suretheyarein the
properposition.Neveroperatewithsafetyguards,shields,or
otherprotectivefeaturesremoved.
6. Thepressurereliefvalveispresetat thefactory.Donotadjustthe
valve.
7. Neverattempttomovethismachineoverhillyor uneventerrain
withoutatowvehicleor adequatehelp.
8. Foryoursafety,replaceall damagedor wornpartsimmediately
withoriginalequipmentmanufacturer's(O.E.M)partsonly.Useof
partswhichdo notmeetthe originalequipmentspecificationsmay
leadtoimproperperformanceandcompromisesafety!
9. Donotalterthismachineinany manner,alterationssuchas
attachingaropeorextensiontothe controlhandle,oraddingto
thewidthor heightof thewedgemayresultin personalinjury.
10. Accordingtothe ConsumerProductsSafetyCommission(CPSC)
andtheU.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(EPA),thisproduct
hasan Average UsefulLifeofseven(7)years,or 130hoursof
operation.At theendof theAverage UsefulLifehavethe machine
inspectedannuallybyan authorizedservicedealerto ensurethat
allmechanicalandsafetysystemsareworkingproperlyand not

SPARK ARRESTOR
Thismachineis equippedwithan internalcombustionengineand
shouldnotbe usedonor nearanyunimprovedforest-covered,brush
coveredor grass-coveredlandunlesstheengine'sexhaustsystem
isequippedwitha sparkarrestermeetingapplicablelocalor state
laws(ifany).
Ifa sparkarresterisused,it shouldbemaintainedineffectiveworking
orderbytheoperator.Inthe StateofCaliforniatheaboveisrequired
bylaw (Section4442ofthe CaliforniaPublicResourcesCode).Other
statesmayhavesimilarlaws. Federallawsapplyonfederallands.

UNPACKING & ASSEMBLING THE LOG
SPLITTER
TOOLS NEEDED: Safetyglasses,leathergloves,wirecutters,prybar
and/orclawhammer.
1. Usea prybarorclawhammerto loosenandremovethetopof
thecrate.
2. Usea prybarorclawhammerto removethesidesof thecrate,
beginningwiththe shortsides(orleftand rightsideofthe log
splitter).Setthe sidesofthe crateasidetoavoidinjury.
3. Onthefrontsideofthe cratethetongueassemblyisattachedon
theinsideof thecratewitha cabletie.Cutthecabletieto remove
thetongue.
4. Removethe largeplasticcoveranddiscard.
DoNOTremoveanywoodor cutany strapssecuringthelogsplitter
[orits componentstothe log splitterorthecrateatthistime. Only
[removestrapsand/orwoodwheninstructedtodoso.
5. inspectthe bottomofthecratefor anyprotrudingstaplesorwood
splintersandremove.
6. Removeanyloosepartsincludedwiththelogsplitter(i.e.opera-
tot'smanual,etc.).
7. Removethe springclipandclevispinfromthejack standon the
tongueandthen pivotthejackstandtowardsthegroundintothe
operatingposition.SeeFigure1.
8. Securethejack standin positionwiththeclevis pinandspring
clip.See Figure1.
9. Withthelogsplitterstillsecuredtothebottomd thecrate,removetwo
hexboltsandhexnutsfromthetankbracketandremovethepieced
woodinsidethetankbrackets.SeeFigure2.

2. Removetheventedreservoirdipstick,whichis locatedinfrontof
insidewallsof theoilfill tube.Thiswouldresultin a falsedipstick
reading.RefilltotheFULLmarkonthe dipstick,if necessary.
Replacethedipstickandtighten.

tooverfill.Overfillingwillcausethe enginetosmokeprofuselyand
will resultinpoorengineperformance.

extendedposition.Thenretractthewedge.
8. Refillthetankas specifiedonthedipstick.
NOTE:Failureto refillthetankwillvoidthe splitter'swarranty.
9. Extendand retractthewedge12completecyclesto removeany
airtrappedinthe system(thesystemis"self-bleeding").
10. Refillthereservoirwithintherangemarkedonthedipstick.
NOTE:Somefluidmayoverflowfromtheventplugas thesystem
buildsheatandthefluidexpandsandseeksa balancedlevel.

BEAM LOCKS
Thesetwolocksare usedtosecurethe beaminthehorizontalor
theverticalposition.Theverticalbeamlockislocatedonthe tanks
bracket.Thehorizontalbeamlockislocatedonthe beamsupportlatch
bracket.
WEDGE

3. Replacethesparkplugif theelectrodesare pitted,burnedorthe
porcelainiscracked.
