PREPARATION

OPERATION

SAFE HANDLING OF GASOLINE
Toavoidpersonalinjuryor propertydamageuseextremecarein handlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremelyflammableandthevaporsare explosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycanoccurwhengasolineis spilled onyourselforyourclotheswhichcan ignite. Washyourskinand changeclothesimmediately.
Useonlyan approvedgasolinecontainer.
Extinguishallcigarettes,cigars,pipes,andothersourcesof ignition.
Neverfuelmachineindoors.
Neverremovegas capor addfuel whiletheengineishotor running.
Allowenginetocoolat leasttwo minutesbeforerefueling.
Neveroverfillthefueltank.Filltanktono morethan1/2inch belowbottomoffiller neckto providespaceforfuel expansion.
Replacegasolinecapandtightensecurely.
Ifgasolineisspilled,wipeit off theengineandequipmentand movemachineto anotherarea.Waitfive (5)minutesbefore startingtheengine.
Neverstorethemachineorfuelcontainerinsidewherethereisan openflame,sparkor pilotlightas on awaterheater,spaceheater,
furnace,clothesdryer orothergasappliances.
Allowmachinetocoolatleastfive(5)minutesbeforestoring.
Whenstabilizinglog withlefthand,removeyourhandwhenthe wedgejustcontactsthelogor seriousinjurymayoccur.
7. Whenloadinga log,alwaysplaceyourhandsonthe sideof the log,noton theends,and neveruseyour foottohelpstabilizea log.Failuretodo so,mayresultin crushedoramputatedfingers,
toes,hand,or foot.
8. Useonlyyourrighthandtooperatethecontrols.
9. Neverattemptto split morethanonelogata time.
10. Forlogswhicharenotcutsquare,theleastsquareendandthe longestportionof thelog shouldbe placedtowardthebeamand wedge,andthesquareend placedtowardtheendplate.
11. Whensplittingintheverticalposition,stabilizethelogbefore movingthecontrolhandle.Splitas follows:
Placelogon the endplateandturn untilit leansagainstthe
beamand is stable.
Whensplittingextralargeorunevenlogs,thelogmustbe
stabilizedwithwoodenshimsor splitwoodbetweenthelog andend plateorground.
12. Alwayskeepfingersawayfromanycracksthatopenin thelog whilesplitting.Theycanquicklycloseandpinchor amputateyour fingers.
13. Keepyourworkareaclean.Immediatelyremovesplitwood aroundthemachineso youdo notstumbleoverit.
14. Donotchangetheenginegovernorsettingsoroverspeedthe engine.Thegovernorcontrolsthe maximumsafeoperatingspeed ofthe engine.
15. Nevermovethismachinewhiletheengineis running.
16. Thismachineshouldnotbe towedonanystreet,highwayor publicroadwithoutcheckingtheexistingfederal,state,orlocal vehiclerequirements.Anylicensingormodificationssuchas taillights,etc.,neededto comply,isthesoleresponsibilityofthe purchaser.Ifa "Statementof Origin"is requiredinyourstate,see yourlocaldealer.

17.Donottowmachineover45mph.
18.SeeTransportingtheLogSplittersectioninthismanualforproper towinginstructionsonceallfederal,local,orstaterequirements
aremet.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
1. Stoptheengine,disconnectthesparkplugandgrounditagainst theenginebeforecleaning,orinspectingthemachine.
2. Stopthe engineandrelievehydraulicsystempressureby cycling thevalvecontrolleverfromforwardto reverseseveraltimeswhile
engineisnot running;returningto neutralbeforerepairingor adjustingfittings,hoses,tubing,orothersystemcomponents.
3. Topreventfires,cleandebrisandchafffromtheengineand mufflerareas.Ifthe engineis equippedwitha sparkarrestor muffler,cleanand inspectit regularlyaccordingtomanufacturers instructions.Replaceif damaged.
4. Periodicallycheckthatall nutsandbolts,hoseclamps,and hydraulicfittingsaretightto besureequipmentis insafeworking
condition.
5. Checkallsafetyguardsandshieldstobesuretheyarein the properposition.Neveroperatewithsafetyguards,shields,or otherprotectivefeaturesremoved.
6. Thepressurereliefvalveispresetat thefactory.Donotadjustthe valve.
7. Neverattempttomovethismachineoverhillyor uneventerrain withoutatowvehicleor adequatehelp.
8. Foryoursafety,replaceall damagedor wornpartsimmediately withoriginalequipmentmanufacturer's(O.E.M)partsonly.Useof partswhichdo notmeetthe originalequipmentspecificationsmay leadtoimproperperformanceandcompromisesafety!
9. Donotalterthismachinein any manner,alterationssuchas attachingaropeorextensiontothe controlhandle,oraddingto thewidthor heightof the wedgemayresultin personalinjury.
10. Accordingtothe ConsumerProductsSafetyCommission(CPSC) andtheU.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(EPA),thisproduct hasan Average UsefulLifeof seven(7)years,or 130hoursof operation.At theendoftheAverageUsefulLifehavethemachine inspectedannuallybyan authorizedservicedealertoensurethat allmechanicalandsafetysystemsareworkingproperlyand not wornexcessively.Failuretodosocanresultinaccidents,injuries
ordeath.
SPARK ARRESTOR
Thismachineis equippedwithan internalcombustionengineand shouldnotbe usedonor nearanyunimprovedforest-covered,brush coveredor grass-coveredlandunlesstheengine'sexhaustsystem isequippedwitha sparkarrestormeetingapplicablelocalor state laws(ifany).
Ifa sparkarrestorisused,it shouldbe maintainedin effectiveworking
orderbytheoperator.Inthe StateofCaliforniatheaboveis required
bylaw (Section4442ofthe CaliforniaPublicResourcesCode).Other
statesmayhavesimilarlaws. Federallawsapplyonfederallands. A sparkarrestorforthe muffleris availablethroughyournearest engineauthorizedservicedealeror contacttheservicedepartment,

UNPACKING & ASSEMBLING THE LOG
SPLITTER
TOOLS NEEDED: Safetyglasses,leathergloves,wirecutters,prybar and/orclawhammer.
1. Usea prybarorclawhammertoloosenandremovethe topof thecrate.
2. Usea prybarorclawhammertoremovethesidesof thecrate, beginningwiththe shortsides(orleftand rightsideofthelog splitter).Setthe sidesofthe crateasideto avoidinjury.
3. Onthefrontsideofthe cratethetongueassemblyisattachedon theinsideof thecratewitha cabletie.Cutthe cabletie to remove
thetongue.
4. Removethe largeplasticcoveranddiscard.
DoNOTremoveanywoodor cutany strapssecuringthelogsplitter
[orits componentstothelog splitterorthecrateatthistime.Only [removestrapsand/orwoodwheninstructedtodoso.
5. inspectthe bottomofthecrateforanyprotrudingstaplesorwood splintersandremove.
6. Removeanyloosepartsincludedwiththelogsplitter(i.e.opera- tot'smanual,etc.).
7. Removethe springclipandclevispinfromthejack standon the tongueandthen pivotthejackstandtowardsthegroundintothe operatingposition.SeeFigure1.
8. Securethejack standin positionwiththeclevispinandspring clip.See Figure1.
9. Withthelogsplitterstillsecuredtothebottomd thecrate,removetwo hexboltsandhexnutsfromthetankbracketandremovethepieced woodinsidethetankbrackets.SeeFigure2.

PREPARING THE LOG SPLITTER
1. Lubricatethe beamarea(wherethesplittingwedgewillslide)with

Themaxrecommendedoperatingpressureis30 psi. Donot,under anycircumstances,exceedthemanufacturer'srecommendedpsi. Maintainequalpressureon alltires.
2. Removetheventedreservoirdipstick,whichis locatedinfrontof
insidewallsof theoilfill tube.Thiswouldresultin a falsedipstick
reading.RefilltotheFULLmarkonthe dipstick,if necessary. Replacethedipstickandtighten.

3. Checkthefluidlevelusingthedipstick.SeeFigure8.Do not overfill.
4. Replacetheventeddipsticksecurely,tighteningit untilthe topof thethreadsareflushwithtop ofthe pipe.
5. Disconnectthesparkplugandprimethepumpby pullingthe recoilstarterasfaras it willgo. Repeatapproximately10times.
6. Reconnectthesparkplugwireandstartthe enginefollowingthe instructionsin theOperationsection.
7. Usethecontrolhandleto engagethewedgetothe farthest extendedposition.Thenretractthewedge.
8. Refillthetankas specifiedonthedipstick.
NOTE:Failureto refillthetankwillvoidthe splitter'swarranty.
9. Extendand retractthewedge12completecyclesto removeany airtrappedinthe system(thesystemis"self-bleeding").
10. Refillthereservoirwithinthe rangemarkedonthedipstick.
NOTE:Somefluidmayoverflowfromtheventplugas thesystem buildsheatandthefluidexpandsandseeksa balancedlevel.
