IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

Decanter Use and Care
Fo llow the instructions b elo w to red uce o r eliminate the chance o f breaking the decanter:
This decant er is designed for use w ith yo ur MR. CO FFEE®co ffeemaker and therefo re must never b e used o n a rangetop o r in any oven, including a microw ave o ven.
– Do no t set a hot decanter on a w et o r cold surface.
– Do no t use a cracked decant er o r a d ecanter having a lo o se o r w eakened handle.
– Do no t clean the d ecanter w ith ab rasive cleansers, steel w o o l p ad s o r
other abrasive mat erials.
– Discard the d ecanter immed iately if it is ever b o iled d ry.
– Protect the d ecanter from sharp b lo ws, scratches o r ro ugh handling.
Warning:
To reduce t he risk of fire or electric shock, do not remove any service covers. There are no user serviceable parts inside t he coffeemaker. Only autho rized personnel should rep air the coffeemaker.
Special Cord Set Instructions
1. A sho rt p o w er supply co rd is pro vid ed to reduce the hazards result ing fro m beco ming entangled in o r tripping o ver a longer co rd.
2. An extension cord may b e p urchased and used if care is exercised in its use.
3. If an extension co rd is used, t he marked electrical rat ing o f the extension co rd must be at least 10 amp s and 120 volts. The resulting ext end ed co rd must b e arranged so that it w ill no t d rape over the co unt erto p or t ab leto p where it can be pulled on by children or t rip p ed o ver accidentally.
This appliance has a polarized plug
(one blade is wider than t he other)
. To reduce the risk of electric shock , this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If t he plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit , contact a qualified elect rician. Do not modify the plug in any way.

Adjusting the Power Cord Length
You can customize the lengt h o f the p o wer cord so t hat it is the exact length you desire.
To increase the length of t he pow er co rd:
Grasp the p o wer cord (no t the po w er plug) and gently lift it o ut o f the slot, then p ull it away from the co ffeemaker.
To decrease the length of t he pow er co rd:
Grasp the p o wer cord , lift it o ut o f the slot, then feed it into the coffeemaker. Lock the co rd in the slot w hen finished .
Setting t he Clock
(Programmable Mo d els Only)
The clo ck flashes on t he co ntro l p anel to ind icate that it has no t b een set .
You must set t he clo ck if you want to use the DELAY BREW feature.
To set the clo ck:
1) Press and hold t he HOUR but to n unt il the clo ck displays the co rrect hour. See Figure A-1.
The PM indicato r w ill light to indicate a PM time; if the PM indicato r is not lit , the time is AM.
2) Press and hold t he MIN. b utton until the clock displays the co rrect minute. See Figure B-1.
The clo ck is no w set.
Adding Water and Ground Coffee
1) Sw ing open t he brew basket and, if d esired , lift o ut t he removable filter insert.
If using paper filters, it is imp ortant that t he sides of t he filt er fit flush against the sides o f the filter insert. If filter co llapse o ccurs, for b est results, dampen the filter before placing it in the b rew b asket and adding gro und coffee.
2) Place a MR. COFFEE®brand 8-12 cup paper filter o r a MR. COFFEE
®
permanent filter in the filter basket.
Brewing Coffee
Cleaning t he Coffeemaker Before First Use
Fo llow the steps below under “Adding Water and Gro und Co ffee” and “Brew ing Coffee Now,” b ut do no t add coffee gro und s.
Selecting and Measuring Ground Coffee
Fo r b est result s, use co ffee ground for use w ith aut o matic d rip co ffeemakers. The amounts shown below are suggested amounts.
To Brew Use This Amount of Ground Coffee
12 cup s 11 tab lespoons or 5-1/2 scoops 10 cup s 9 tab lespoo ns or 4-1/2 scoop s
8 cups 7 tab lespoo ns or 3-1/2 scoop s 6 cups 6 tab lespoo ns or 3 scoo p s 4 cups 5 tab lespoo ns or 2-1/2 scoop s 2 cups 3 tab lespoo ns or 1-1/2 scoop s
• two level t ab lespoons = o ne level scoop
• one cup = five o unces brew ed co ffee
3) Ad d the d esired amo unt of ground coffee
to the filter. Gently shake t he filt er insert to level the gro und coffee.
4) Be certain that the filt er is centered in the
filt er insert . Close t he brew b asket.
5) Fill t he water reservo ir w ith t he desired amount
of t ap w ater.

6) Place the d ecanter o n the warming plate.
Make sure the decanter is fully placed on the warming plate or t he water and grounds will overflow from t he brew basket . An overflow may cause personal injury or d amage to propert y.
To reduce t he risk of damaging t he decante r and/or the risk of personal injury, do not add cold water to the decanter if the decanter is already hot . Allow t he decanter to cool before using.
Do not brew coffee while the brew basket lid is open.
Brewing Coffee Now
For Switch Models:
Push the swit ch so t he light illuminates.
This light indicates that t he co ffeemaker is On and the b rew cycle w ill b egin. When the coffee sto p s flo w ing, the b rew cycle is co mplete.
While t he co ffee is brew ing, the Pause ‘n Serve feature allow s you to sneak a cup of co ffee from the decanter. REPLACE THE DECA NTER ON THE WARMING PLATE WITHIN 30 SECONDS TO PREVENT O VERFLOW AND POSSIBLE INJURY.
To turn Off the co ffeemaker, p ush the swit ch so t he light is no lo nger illuminated.
If the brew basket overflows or fails to empty int o t he decant er, do not open the brew basket . Turn off the coffeemaker. Unplug the coffeemaker and wait for the content s to coo l before handling.
For Programmable Models:
Push the O n b utton when ready to start brew ing.
Your coffeemaker will keep yo ur co ffee hot fo r 2 hours, then aut o matically shut off.
To turn the co ffeemaker Off, push the Off b utton.

Brewing Coffee Later
For Programmable Models:
You must set t he time fo r w hen yo u w ould like the co ffeemaker to begin b rew ing your co ffee.
1) While t he co ffeemaker is off, p ress and hold the SET DELAY button.
2) While p ressing and hold ing t he SETDELAY but t o n, press and hold the HOUR but t o n until t he clock d isplays the hour you desire. The PM indicat o r w ill light to indicate a PM time; if the PM indicator is not lit, the t ime is AM.
3) While still pressing and hold ing t he SETDELAY but t o n, press and hold the MIN. but t o n unt il the clock d isplays the co rrect minute.
4) Release t he SETDELAY butt o n. The DELAY BREW time is now set.
5) Press the DELAY BREW butt o n t o activate the DELAY BREW mo d e.
The DELAY BREW ind icator will light. The delay timer is set and the coffeemaker w ill b egin brew ing the co ffee at t he time you selected.
If you w ant your coffee to b rew at the same t ime the fo llow ing d ay, simply ad d the desired amount o f gro und co ffee, fill the w ater reservoir and press DELAY BREW.
