Decanter Use and Care

Fo llow the instructions b elo w to red uce o r eliminate the chance o f breaking the decanter:

This decant er is designed for use w ith yo ur MR. CO FFEE®co ffeemaker and therefo re must never b e used o n a rangetop o r in any oven, including a microw ave o ven.

– Do no t set a hot decanter on a w et o r cold surface.

– Do no t use a cracked decant er o r a d ecanter having a lo o se o r w eakened handle.

– Do no t clean the d ecanter w ith ab rasive cleansers, steel w o o l p ad s o r

other abrasive mat erials.

– Discard the d ecanter immed iately if it is ever b o iled d ry.

– Protect the d ecanter from sharp b lo ws, scratches o r ro ugh handling.

Warning:

To reduce t he risk of fire or electric shock, do not remove any service covers. There are no user serviceable parts inside t he coffeemaker. Only autho rized personnel should rep air the coffeemaker.

Special Cord Set Instructions

1. A sho rt p o w er supply co rd is pro vid ed to reduce the hazards result ing fro m beco ming entangled in o r tripping o ver a longer co rd.

2. An extension cord may b e p urchased and used if care is exercised in its use.

3. If an extension co rd is used, t he marked electrical rat ing o f the extension co rd must be at least 10 amp s and 120 volts. The resulting ext end ed co rd must b e arranged so that it w ill no t d rape over the co unt erto p or t ab leto p where it can be pulled on by children or t rip p ed o ver accidentally.

This appliance has a polarized plug

(one blade is wider than t he other)

. To reduce the risk of electric shock , this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If t he plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit , contact a qualified elect rician. Do not modify the plug in any way.

Adjusting the Power Cord Length

You can customize the lengt h o f the p o wer cord so t hat it is the exact length you desire.

To increase the length of t he pow er co rd:

Grasp the p o wer cord (no t the po w er plug) and gently lift it o ut o f the slot, then p ull it away from the co ffeemaker.

To decrease the length of t he pow er co rd:

Grasp the p o wer cord , lift it o ut o f the slot, then feed it into the coffeemaker. Lock the co rd in the slot w hen finished .

Setting t he Clock

(Programmable Mo d els Only)

The clo ck flashes on t he co ntro l p anel to ind icate that it has no t b een set .

You must set t he clo ck if you want to use the DELAY BREW feature.

To set the clo ck:

1) Press and hold t he HOUR but to n unt il the clo ck displays the co rrect hour. See Figure A-1.

The PM indicato r w ill light to indicate a PM time; if the PM indicato r is not lit , the time is AM.

2) Press and hold t he MIN. b utton until the clock displays the co rrect minute. See Figure B-1.

Adding Water and Ground Coffee

1) Sw ing open t he brew basket and, if d esired , lift o ut t he removable filter insert.

If using paper filters, it is imp ortant that t he sides of t he filt er fit flush against the sides o f the filter insert. If filter co llapse o ccurs, for b est results, dampen the filter before placing it in the b rew b asket and adding gro und coffee.

2) Place a MR. COFFEE®brand 8-12 cup paper filter o r a MR. COFFEE

permanent filter in the filter basket.

Brewing Coffee

Cleaning t he Coffeemaker Before First Use

Fo llow the steps below under “Adding Water and Gro und Co ffee” and “Brew ing Coffee Now,” b ut do no t add coffee gro und s.

Selecting and Measuring Ground Coffee

Fo r b est result s, use co ffee ground for use w ith aut o matic d rip co ffeemakers. The amounts shown below are suggested amounts.

12 cup s 11 tab lespoons or 5-1/2 scoops 10 cup s 9 tab lespoo ns or 4-1/2 scoop s

3) Ad d the d esired amo unt of ground coffee

to the filter. Gently shake t he filt er insert to level the gro und coffee.

4) Be certain that the filt er is centered in the

filt er insert . Close t he brew b asket.

5) Fill t he water reservo ir w ith t he desired amount

of t ap w ater.

6) Place the d ecanter o n the warming plate.

Make sure the decanter is fully placed on the warming plate or t he water and grounds will overflow from t he brew basket . An overflow may cause personal injury or d amage to propert y.

To reduce t he risk of damaging t he decante r and/or the risk of personal injury, do not add cold water to the decanter if the decanter is already hot . Allow t he decanter to cool before using.

Do not brew coffee while the brew basket lid is open.

Brewing Coffee Now

For Switch Models:

Push the swit ch so t he light illuminates.

This light indicates that t he co ffeemaker is On and the b rew cycle w ill b egin. When the coffee sto p s flo w ing, the b rew cycle is co mplete.

While t he co ffee is brew ing, the Pause ‘n Serve feature allow s you to sneak a cup of co ffee from the decanter. REPLACE THE DECA NTER ON THE WARMING PLATE WITHIN 30 SECONDS TO PREVENT O VERFLOW AND POSSIBLE INJURY.

To turn Off the co ffeemaker, p ush the swit ch so t he light is no lo nger illuminated.

If the brew basket overflows or fails to empty int o t he decant er, do not open the brew basket . Turn off the coffeemaker. Unplug the coffeemaker and wait for the content s to coo l before handling.

For Programmable Models:

Push the O n b utton when ready to start brew ing.

Your coffeemaker will keep yo ur co ffee hot fo r 2 hours, then aut o matically shut off.

To turn the co ffeemaker Off, push the Off b utton.

Brewing Coffee Later

For Programmable Models:

You must set t he time fo r w hen yo u w ould like the co ffeemaker to begin b rew ing your co ffee.

1) While t he co ffeemaker is off, p ress and hold the SET DELAY button.

2) While p ressing and hold ing t he SETDELAY but t o n, press and hold the HOUR but t o n until t he clock d isplays the hour you desire. The PM indicat o r w ill light to indicate a PM time; if the PM indicator is not lit, the t ime is AM.

3) While still pressing and hold ing t he SETDELAY but t o n, press and hold the MIN. but t o n unt il the clock d isplays the co rrect minute.

4) Release t he SETDELAY butt o n. The DELAY BREW time is now set.

5) Press the DELAY BREW butt o n t o activate the DELAY BREW mo d e.

The DELAY BREW ind icator will light. The delay timer is set and the coffeemaker w ill b egin brew ing the co ffee at t he time you selected.

If you w ant your coffee to b rew at the same t ime the fo llow ing d ay, simply ad d the desired amount o f gro und co ffee, fill the w ater reservoir and press DELAY BREW.

Cleaning t he Coffeemaker Between Brew Cycles

To clean coffeemaker after use:

1) Discard the gro unds and p aper filter and , if necessary, rinse the filter insert. You may also w ash t he filt er insert in the dishw asher.

2) Rinse the d ecanter w ith w arm w ater. You may also wash t he decanter in t he d ishwasher (top rack d ishw asher safe only).

Make sure the coffeemaker is turned Off when t he decanter is empt y.

Brewed coffee and grounds are bot h very hot . Handle them wit h care t o avoid scalding injuries.

Unplug t he coffeemaker’s power cord if you are not using the coffeemaker or clock.

Cleaning t he Gold Tone Filter or Permanent Filter After Brew Cycle

To clean filter after use:

Discard the gro unds in the garb age and w ash t he filt er w ith warm sudsy water or place in t o p rack o f yo ur d ishwasher.

Proper maint enance and care o f your filter will ensure many years of b rew ing life.

Maintaining Your Coffeemaker

Maintaining yo ur co ffeemaker and it s part s will help ext end the life of t he appliance.

Cleaning t he Coffeemaker

Your coffeemaker must be cleaned when yo u notice any o f the fo llo w ing co nditio ns:

• excessive steaming

• increased b rew cycle times

• t he pumping action stop s before all o f the w at er has been pumped fro m the w at er reservoir

These co ndit io ns are caused b y lime o r o ther mineral d ep o sits most commonly fo und in tap w at er.

How frequently yo u clean yo ur co ffeemaker depend s up on t he hardness of yo ur tap water. The fo llow ing tab le gives suggested cleaning intervals.

Using MR. C FFEE®Cleaner

Please refer to MR. C FFEE®Cleaner b o x for instructio ns. Read caution statement on side p anel o f bo x b efo re use.

To clean your coffeemaker wit h vinegar:

1) Po ur four cup s of undiluted w hite ho usehold

vinegar int o the w at er reservoir.

2) Place pap er, permanent o r go ld tone filter into the remo vab le filt er insert and clo se the brew basket.

3) Place the emp t y d ecanter o n the warming plate.

Make sure to fully place the decant er on the warming plate to avoid the possibility of overflow.

4) St art the b rew cycle. See Page 10 fo r “Brew ing Coffee Now.”

For Switch Models:

• Push t he ON/OFF sw itch so the light

illuminates (to b egin the b rew cycle) .

For Programmable Models:

• Push t he On b utton to b egin

the brew cycle.

a. When half o f the vinegar has flowed

into the d ecanter, t urn the coffeemaker Off and let the vinegar stand for 30 minutes. Then, turn coffeemaker on and let cycle co mplete.

b. Rep eat Step s 1 – 4.

c. Discard the vinegar. Fill t he decant er w ith tap

water and p o ur it into the w ater reservoir.

d. Place the d ecanter o n the w arming p late

and begin t he brew cycle.

e. Turn the co ffeemaker Off and discard the

water in the decant er. If necessary, repeat step s

c through e t o flush all traces of vinegar

fro m the coffeemaker.

Cleaning t he Decanter

Hard water can leave a w hit ish stain on the d ecanter. Co ffee and t ea may then turn this stain bro w n.

To remo ve d ecanter stains:

1) Fill t he decant er with a solut ion of equal p arts tap w at er and vinegar and let t he solutio n stand in the d ecanter fo r ap p roximat ely 20 minutes.

2) Discard the solut ion and wash and rinse the decanter.

Do not use harsh abrasive cleansers that may scratch the d ecanter; scratches may cause the decanter to break.

8-12 cup paper filters or MR. COFFEE®brand p ermanent filters. These filters are availab le at most grocery stores.

• Decanters You can usually p urchase a replacement decanter fro m the store w here

you purchased your coffeemaker. If yo u are unable to find a rep lacement, please call 1-800 MR CO FFEE ( 1-800-672-6333) in the U.S. and Canada fo r information on where yo u can find a store that carries rep lacement d ecanters.

Repairs

Ajustando la Longitud del Cable Eléctrico

Ajustando el Reloj

Para ajustar la hora correcta en el reloj:

1) Presione y det enga el botó n d e hora HOUR hasta que en la p antalla del relo j aparezca la ho ra co rrecta. Co nsulte la Figura A-1.

El indicador PM se iluminará para ind icar la hora PM; si el ind icad o r PM no se ilumina, ent o nces la hora es AM.

Limpieza de la Cafetera Antes de Usar por Primera Vez

Siga lo s pasos indicados en la sección “Añad iendo Agua y Café Mo lido” y en “Prep arand o Café Ahora” , (Páginas 24 – 26) pero no agregue lo s granos de café.

Seleccionando y Midiendo el Café Molido

Para mejo res resultados, use grano s de café para cafeteras d e go teo automático. Las cantidades q ue se muestran a co ntinuació n son cant idades sugerid as.

2) Coloque un filtro d e p apel de la marca MR. COFFEE

para p rep arar 8 – 12 tazas o b ien un filtro permanente d e la marca MR. COFFEE®, dentro de la canasta para filt ro .

3) Agregue la cant id ad deseada de café molid o al filtro . Suavemente agite el filtro p ara nivelar el café molid o.

4) Asegúrese de q ue el filt ro esté cent rado en la canasta para filtro y d espués cierre canasta de preparació n.

5) Llene el t anque d e agua con la cant id ad desead a de agua de grifo .

6) Co loque la jarra sobre el p lat o calefactor.

Asegúrese de que la jarra esté correctament e colocada en el cent ro del plato calefactor o el agua y el café se desbordarán de la canasta de preparación. Un desbordamiento puede causar lesión personal o daños.

Para reducir el riesgo de dañar la jarra y/o el riesgo de lesión personal, no agregue agua fría a la jarra si ésta ya está caliente. Permit a que la jarra se enfríe antes de utilizar.

No p repare café mientras que la canasta de preparación esté abierta.

Preparando Café Ahora

Para los mod elos con interruptor:

Presione el int errup t o r, d e manera q ue la luz se enciend a.

Esta luz ind ica q ue la cafetera está encendid a y que el ciclo de preparació n iniciará. Cuando el café d eje de fluir en la cafetera, el ciclo d e p rep aració n se ha comp letad o .

Mient ras q ue el café está siend o preparad o , la funció n d e p ausa y servir Pause ‘n Serve permit e q ue pued e servirse co n la jarra una taza d e café. COLOQUE LA JARRA SOBRE EL PLATO CALEFACTOR EN UN PERIODO MENO R A 30 SEGUNDOS PARA PREVENIR QUE EL CAFÉ SE DERRAME Y UNA POSIBLE LESIÓN.

Para apagar la cafet era, presione el interruptor de manera que la luz ya no esté iluminad a.

Si la canasta de preparación derrama café o no vacía el café a la jarra, no ab ra la canasta de preparación. Apague la cafetera. Desconéct ela y espere a que los cont enidos se enfríen ant es de manejarlos.

Para Modelos Programables:

Presione el botón de encendid o On cuand o esté listo para co menzar a prep arar café.

Preparando Café Más Tarde

Para Modelos Programables:

Ust ed d eb e p rogramar el tiemp o en el q ue le gustaría que la cafetera inicie a p rep arar su café.

1) Mient ras q ue la cafet era está apagada, p resione y detenga el b o t ó n p ara p rogramar el retraso de la prep aració n d e café SET DELAY.

2) Mient ras sigue p resionando el botón para pro gramar el retraso de la p rep aració n d e café SET DELAY, presione y d etenga el b o tó n d e hora HOUR hasta q ue la p antalla en el relo j muestre la hora que usted d esea. El ind icad o r PM se iluminará p ara indicar un tiempo PM, si el indicad or PM no se ilumina, el tiempo es AM.

3) Mient ras aun p resiona y d etiene el b o t ó n SET DELAY, p resione y d etenga el b otón de minut o s MIN. hasta que la pantalla en el reloj muestre los minuto s co rrecto s.

4) Deje de p resionar el b o t ó n SET DELAY. Ya está p rogramad o el tiemp o de retraso de la prep aració n d e café DELAY BREW.

5) Presione el botón para ret rasar la p rep aració n del café DELAY BREW y activar el modo d e funcionamient o DELAY BREW.

El indicador de retrasar la p rep aració n DELAY BREW, se iluminará. El cronó met ro de retraso está p rogramado y la cafetera comenzará la p rep aració n d e café a la ho ra q ue usted seleccionó .

Si usted desea que su cafetera prepare café a la misma ho ra al d ía siguiente, simplemente añad a la cantid ad desead a de café molid o , llene el tanq ue co n agua y presione el b o tó n DELAY BREW.

Limpieza de la Cafetera Entre Ciclos de Preparación

Para limpiar la cafet era después de cad a uso:

1) Deseche los granos y el filt ro d e p ap el que utilizó, y si es necesario, enjuague el inserto d el filt ro. Usted p ued e t amb ién lavar el inserto del filtro en la lavadora d e p latos.

2) Enjuague la jarra co n agua tib ia. Usted pued e tamb ién lavar la jarra en la lavado ra de plato s (solamente en la rejilla superio r de la lavad o ra d e p lat o s p ara lavarla de una fo rma segura).

Asegúrese de que la cafetera esté apagada cuando la jarra esté vacía.

El café preparado y los granos de café están muy calient es. Manéjelos con cuidado para evit ar lesiones y quemaduras.

Desconect e el cordón elé ctrico de la cafet era si no la va a usar o si no va a usar el reloj.

Limpieza del Filtro Dorado o del Filtro Permanent e Después del Ciclo de Preparación

Para limpiar después de cad a uso:

1) Llene la jarra co n una solución de part es iguales de agua y vinagre blanco y deje que la solución repose en la jarra d urante apro ximadament e 20 minutos.

2) Deseche la solució n, lave y enjuague la jarra.
