Lost or stuck? If you’re not surewhat to do next, try one of these:
•Toopen a text message, showcontact details, or open items
in alist, touch the message,contact, or item.
•Toshow options for a list item (ifavailable),touch andhold
the item.
•Toshow amenufor the current screen, touch Menu in the
corner of the screen(ifavailable).
•Toreturn hometo the home screen, touch Home.
•Togo back just onescreen,touchBack.
•Toclose a touchscreen keyboard, touch.
•Toreopenan appyou closed, touchRecentand touch
theapp in the list.
•Toreboot an unresponsive phone, pressand hold the Power
keyuntil the screengoes dark andyour phone restarts.

Power off, Airplane mode (no
choose wireless connections—see “Airplanemode”), silent, vibrate,orsound on.
To conserve battery power, prevent accidentaltouches, orwhen you wantto wipe smudges off yourtouchscreen, put the touchscreen tosleep by pressingthe Power key.Towake upthe touchscreen, just pressthe Power key again.

Volume keys
Your volume keys help in a fewways:
•Ringer volume:Press the keys in the home screen. Press themwhen yourphone isringing tosilence it.
•Earpiece volume: Press the keys during acall.
•Music/video volume: Press the keys during asong or

Just tellyour phone whatyou want.
Tip:Speak naturally but clearly, likeusing a speakerphone.
•Dialing and commands: Touch.To dial, say“Call” and
thenacontact nameor phone number. Or, say a command like“Send text,” “Go to” an app, or“Help” for voice command help.
Tip:If a contact has more than one number, youcan say which number to call. For example, “CallJoe Black Mobile”or “Call Suzi SmithWork.”
To choose the confirmations and prompts youwant to hear, touch >Menu>
•Search:Touch in the home screento search by voice.
Tochangeyour voice search and text-to-speech settings,touch Apps>
•Text entry: On atouchscreen keyboard,touch, then
speak yourmessageor search text. You can alsospeak punctuation.
Tip:Tomake your phone read outloud, see “TalkBack”.

Customize yourphone’s sounds and appearance:
•Ringtone andnotifications: To choose ringtones or
notifications, touch Apps >

ringing. To turn off ringtones forincoming calls,touch

•Ringtonefor a contact: To set a personal ringtone for acontact, touch Apps >then touch Menu>
•Volume: Toset the volume, just presstheside volumekeys while inthe homescreen (ringtone volume), during a call(earpiece volume), or while playing music or a video (mediavolume).
•Message alert:Tochangeyour new message notification settings, touch Apps >
Settings, andcheckNotifications.

•Display settings: To change brightness,animation,andother display settings, touch Apps >

•Rotate: In manyapps,thetouchscreen switches fromportrait to landscape when yourotate yourphone. To turn this onor off, touch Apps >
Auto-rotate screen.

•Language and region: Toset yourmenu language and region, touch Apps >
