1. Getting started

WARNING
Do not place your phone in the bathroom or other humid areas.
Location
When choosing a location for your new phone, here are some important guidelines you should consider:
• Avoid sources of noise and heat, such as motors, fluorescent lighting, microwave ovens, heating appliances, and direct sunlight.
• Avoid areas of excessive dust, moisture, and low temperature.
• Avoid other cordless telephones or personal computers.
• Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.
• Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack is specifically designed for wet locations.
• Never touch non-insulated telephone wires or terminals unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface.
• Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.
6 Getting started
HANDSET RANGE
Optimal range is reached when there are no other electrical appliances working within the range area. Any obstruction between the base and handset will also reduce the range significantly.
SIGNAL STRENGTH
When out of range of the base, the screen shows
SEARCHING....
Move back within in range of the base. The handset will automatically re-connect to the base.
If you are on a call, the line will disconnect.
Setting up
IMPORTANT
The base must be plugged into an electrical outlet at all times. Do not connect the telephone line cord into the telephone wall jack until the handset is fully charged. Only use the adapter and telephone line cord supplied with the product.
WHICH POWER ADAPTER
The power adapter with the red crystal is for the base unit and the power adapter with the larger pin is for the charger unit (only for multi-handset packs).

1.2 Installing and charging the wireless headset

Attach the ear hook to the headset body as indicated. The ear hook can be attached according to your preference to wear the headset on the left or right ear.

Put the installed wireless headset on the base cradle all the way to the end for ensuring effective charging before using. When the wireless headset is fully charged, the LED on headset will light on blue steadily.

Plug the power adapter with the red crystal plug and the telephone line cord into the base. The power adapter with the round pin is for the charger (only in multi­handset packs).

Plug the other end of the power adapter into a power outlet and the telephone line cord into a telephone wall jack.

1.3 Installing and charging the handset battery pack

Put the handset on the base to charge for at least 24 hours. Once charged, the (battery icon) will indicate that the handset is fully charged.
IMPORTANT
Use only the rechargeable battery pack provided with the product.

Overview of your handset
Get acquainted with the following 14 buttons on your handset and their multi-function tasks.

6 Alphanumeric Keypad

enter characters/numbers. Press and hold to activate speed dial.
7 # / Pause / ABC / Format

Press to insert a #, press and hold to insert a "Pause".
b) In name editing mode: Press to toggle ABC/abc. Press
and hold to insert a space.
c) In calls list entry: Press to toggle between 7, 8, 10 and
11 digit formats when returning calls from Caller ID list.
d) In phonebook list entry: If the number is more than 15
digits, press to view the next page of remaining digits.
8 Intercom
a) In idle mode/during a call: Press to initiate an intercom
call.
9 Microphone 10 Speaker
a) In idle/pre-dial mode: Press to make a call with the
speakerphone.
b) During a call: Press to toggle between the speakerphone
and the earpiece.
c) Call List/phonebook/redial list entry: Press to make a
call with the speakerphone.
d) During ringing: Press to answer a call with the
speakerphone.
e) In answering machine mode: Press to toggle the
message playback via the earpiece or speakerphone.

On when the line is in use.
Flashes when there is an incoming call.
On when the speakerphone is turned on.

Indicates that a new call has been received.

Indicates that the ringer volume is off.
If a voice mail service is being used, this icon
indicates that there is a new voice mail message. The icon is off after all new voice mails have been reviewed.

1 POWER/TALK ON/OFF
a) In idle mode: Press to place a call. Press and hold to
power the wireless headset on or off.
b) During a call: Press to end the call. c) During registration: Press to exit the registration mode.
2 VOLUME UP/FLASH
a) During a call: Press to increase the earpiece volume.
Press and hold to answer a second incoming call.
b) During ringing: Press to increase the ringer volume.
3 VOLUME DOWN
a) During a call: Press to decrease the earpiece volume. b) During ringing: Press to decrease the ringer volume.
NOTE
If the wireless headset is not registered, press and hold VOL+/ FLASH together with VOL- to initiate the registration mode.
Wireless Headset LED Indicators
Purple: Steadily on: The wireless headset is unregistered. Flashing: The wireless headset is registered but the base is
not available (searching or out of range).
Blue: Steadily on: When the headset is seated in the base and
fully charged. Once the headset is successfully registered, the blue light will flash on then off, for about three seconds at a time, and emit a long beep.
Long flashing: The wireless headset is in idle mode and off the base.
Double flashing: The wireless headset is on, and if the signal becomes weak, three short beeps will be heard.

Continuously flashing: The wireless headset is ringing and can be heard through the earpiece.
Red: Steadily on: When the wireless headset is charging on the
base. Long flashing: Indicates that the battery is low, the unit is
not on the base, and the headset will emit short double beeps. Double flashing: Indicates that the battery is low while the headset is in use and short double beeps will be emitted. Triple flashing: Indicates powering on/off the headset and three short beeps will be emitted through the earpiece.
Red/Blue: Toggling display: The wireless headset is in registration
mode. When the headset is registered successfully, the headset will beep for around 2 seconds.

headset. Press the button again, or any key on the handset, to turn off page signal.

10 PLAY/STOP
a) In message playback mode: Press to playback or stop
playing messages.

level is 3. Nine volume levels from L0 to L8 are provided (L0 means ringer off) during message playback. Five volume levels from L0 to L5 (independent of the volume levels during message playback) are provided during an incoming call. L3 disappears after 3 seconds.

3. Using the Phone

3.1 Making a call

Enter the phone number and press /FLASH or / SPEAKER to dial the phone number.

3.2 Speed dial calling

In idle mode, press and hold a key from /1 to WXYZ/9 until the number is displayed and dialed.

3.3 Answering a call

through the handset:

through the wireless headset:

3.4 Ending a call

During a call, press /MUTE to mute the microphone, so that you can talk to someone else in the room without your caller hearing you.

Press REDIAL/VOL- and then VOL+ or REDIAL/VOL- to scroll and select the entry you want to redial.

Toggle the #/ /PAUSE/FORMAT key to format the dialing number.

3.9 Adding an entry to the phonebook

TIPS
Instead of scrolling to browse the phonebook entries, press the numeric key corresponding to the first letter of the entry you wish to locate. For example, pressing 2 will show the entries starting with A. Pressing 2 again will show the entries starting with B, etc.

3.12 Caller ID

If you have subscribed to Caller ID service, and provided the identity of the caller is not withheld, the number of the caller will be displayed together with the date and time of the call (if provided by the network).

• If the telephone number is not available for incoming calls, the handset will display

• Information about incoming calls will vary by country and network operator. Some operators may charge a subscription for their Caller ID service.

3.12.1 Calls List

The calls list contains details of missed and received calls. Details include the date and time of the call. Entries are

displayed in chronological order with the most recent call at the top of the list.
NOTE
• When the calls list is full, a new call replaces the oldest one in the list.
• Details of up to 30 calls may be stored.
• If you receive more than one call from the same number, only the most recent call is kept in the calls list. When you have missed calls (incoming calls that you haven't answered) the icon will be displayed in the display on all handsets registered to the base. If one handset is used to view the calls log, the icon on the other handsets remains on (for multi-pack use only).

3.12.2 Viewing the calls list

Press CID to enter the calls list.

• When reviewing an entry from the calls list, press #/ / PAUSE/FORMAT repeatedly to display the number in a
different format.

• The icon is removed once the new call has been viewed.
3.12.3 Saving a number from the calls list to the
phonebook

Press MENU and then enter the name if desired.

3.12.4 Deleting a calls list entry

Press /MUTE to delete the entry.

3.12.5 Deleting the entire calls list

If you do not press any button on the handset for 30 seconds, the display will automatically return to standby. It will also return to standby when the handset is placed on the base or charger.

3.14 Intercom

This feature is only available when there are at least two registered handsets or a handset and a wireless headset. It allows you to make internal calls, transfer external calls from one handset to another handset or the wireless headset, and use the conference option.

3.14.1 Calling another handset or the wireless headset

Press INT. Except for the originating handset, all registered handsets and the wireless headset will be displayed in the list.

Press VOL+ or REDIAL/VOL- to select the handset or the wireless headset you want to call.

Press MENU to call the handset or the wireless headset.

Press /BACK to hang up.
NOTE
If the handset or the wireless headset is not within the valid operation range, this function may not be available. During an intercom call, you will hear an alert tone if there is an incoming external call. You need to press /BACK to hang up the intercom call before answering the incoming external call.

3.14.2 Transferring a call to another handset or the wireless headset

During an external call, press INT.
- Your caller is put on hold.
2.
Press VOL+ or REDIAL/VOL- to select the handset or the wireless headset you want to call.
3.
Press MENU to call the handset or the wireless headset.
4.
When the other handset answers by pressing / FLASH or /SPEAKER or the wireless headset
answers by pressing , press /BACK to transfer the call. If the other handset or the wireless headset does not answer, press /MUTE to talk to your caller again.
NOTE
You are not allowed to use the wireless headset to initiate an intercom call. To transfer the call from handset to wireless headset, you can also press on the headset to join the call, and then hang up the call on handset.

3.14.3 Three-party conference call

During an external call, press INT.
- Your caller is put on hold.
2.
Press VOL+ or REDIAL/VOL- to select the handset or the wireless headset you want to call.
3.
Press MENU to call the handset or the wireless headset.
4.
When the other handset or the wireless headset answers the intercom call, press MENU on the calling handset to set up the conference call.

Press /BACK on any handset to end a three-party conference call and leave the other handset or wireless headset engaged with the caller or press on the wireless headset to hang up and leave the other handset engaged with the caller.
NOTE
During an external call, pressing /FLASH or / SPEAKER on any handset, or pressing on the wireless
headset will join in the call and set up a conference call.

3.15 Setting the dial mode

The default dialing mode is suitable for your country and network operator. It is unlikely that you should need to change this setting unless advised to do so.

• Handset not properly seated on the base cradle -
readjust the handset on the base.
• Dirty contact - clean the charge contacts by wiping with
an alcohol moistened cloth.
• Battery is full - charging is not necessary at this time.
No dial tone
• If there is no base power, check the connections. Reset
the phone by unplugging then plugging it back into an electrical outlet.
• If the handset batteries are empty, recharge the battery
pack for at least 24 hours.
• Move the handset closer to the base.
• Be sure to use only the provided telephone cords.
Poor audio quality
• If the base is too close to electrical appliances, reinforced
concrete walls, or metal door frames, move the base from these areas.
No ring tone
• The ringer may be off.
• The volume may need to be increased.
Caller ID does not work
• Check your subscription with your network operator.
• If you subscribe to high-speed internet service (Digital Subscriber Line - DSL) through your telephone lines, you must install a DSL filter between the telephone base and the telephone wall jack. The filter will prevent noise and caller ID problems caused by DSL interference. Please contact your DSL service provider for more information about DSL filters.
A phonebook entry cannot be stored
• The phonebook is full. Delete an entry to free memory.

• Try recharging or replacing the rechargeable battery pack.
• Reset the base. Unplug the unit's electrical, then plug it back in.
• If the LED is not lit up, then try to unplug the unit's electrical power, and then plug it back in.

Wait for around 15 seconds and re-plug the power again. Allow up to one minute for the handset/headset to synchronize with the registered base again.

This equipment complies with Part 68 of the FCC rules and with technical requirements adopted by the Administrative Council for Terminal Attachments (ACTA). The label on the back or bottom of this equipment contains, among other things, a product identifier in the format US: AAAEQ##TXXXX. This identifier must be provided to your local telephone company upon request.
The plug and jack used to connect this equipment to premises wiring and the telephone network must comply with applicable Part 68 rules and technical requirements adopted by ACTA. A compliant telephone cord and modular plug is provided with this product. It is designed to be
connected to a compatible modular jack that is also compliant. An RJ11 jack should normally be used for connecting to a single line and an RJ14 jack for two lines. See Installation Instructions in the User's Guide.
The Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) is used to determine how many devices you may connect to your telephone line and still have them ring when you are called. The REN for this product is encoded as the 6th and 7th characters following the US: in the product identifier (e.g., if ## is 03, the REN is 0.3). In most, but not all areas, the sum of all RENs should be five (5.0) or less. For more information, please contact your local telephone company.
This equipment may not be used with Party Lines. If you have specially wired alarm dialing equipment connected to your telephone line, ensure the connection of this equipment does not disable your alarm equipment. If you have questions about what will disable alarm equipment, consult your telephone company or a qualified installer.
If this equipment is malfunctioning, it must be unplugged from the modular jack until the problem has been corrected. Repairs to this telephone equipment can only be made by

the manufacturer or its authorized agents. For repair procedures, follow the instructions outlined under the Limited Warranty.
If this equipment is causing harm to the telephone network, the telephone company may temporarily discontinue your telephone service. The telephone company is required to notify you before interrupting service. If advance notice is not practical, you will be notified as soon as possible. You will be given the opportunity to correct the problem and the telephone company is required to inform you of your right to file a complaint with the FCC. Your telephone company may make changes in its facilities, equipment, operation, or procedures that could affect the proper functioning of this product. The telephone company is required to notify you if such changes are planned.
If this product is equipped with a corded or cordless handset, it is hearing aid compatible.
If this product has memory dialing locations, you may choose to store emergency telephone numbers (e.g., police, fire, medical) in these locations. If you do store or test emergency numbers, please:
• Remain on the line and briefly explain the reason for the
call before hanging up.
• Perform such activities in off-peak hours, such as early
morning or late evening.
