MOTION PRO BEARING PULLER P/N 08-0140
This tool is designed to remove and install the swingarm pivot bearings on all Harley-Davidson Softail models. This puller can also be used on the pivot bearings on springer front fenders (Note: FXSTS/B front fenders do not have pivot bearings).
1. SWINGARM PIVOT BEARING REMOVAL The bearing is removed from the inside of the swingarm. It is not necessary to remove the circlip from bearing. Unscrew the puller end cap from the puller bolt and grease both sides of the washer located between the puller body and bolt head. Next, from the inside of the swingarm, install the puller bolt through the puller body and then the bearing/circlip assembly. Thread the end cap (indented side towards bearing) onto the puller bolt from the outside of the swingarm. Position the puller body on the swingarm so that the bearing/circlip assembly will clear the puller body when the bearing is removed. While making sure the bearing circlip clears the puller body, tighten the puller bolt until the bearing/circlip assembly is pulled out. Remove the old bearing from the puller and discard.
2. SWINGARM PIVOT BEARING INSTALLATION To install the bearing/circlip assembly, position the puller body on the outside of the swingarm. Next, slide the puller bolt through the puller body and then the bearing hole in the swingarm. From the inside of the swingarm, install a new bearing/circlip assembly (circlip out) over the puller bolt. Thread the end cap (indented side towards bearing) onto the puller bolt and finger tighten until the bearing is contacting its bore in the swingarm. While making sure the bearing is square with its bore, tighten the puller bolt until the bearing is seated into the swingarm. Unscrew the puller end cap and remove the puller from the swingarm.
