MOTION PRO IGNITION SYSTEM TESTER P/N 08-0122
WARNING:
IMPROPER USE COULD RESULT IN GREAT BODILY INJURY OR DEATH.
The Motion Pro ignition system tester is designed to test the integrity and strength of your vehicle’s ignition system. The spark created by the tester is used to determine the condition of the ignition system.
To check your vehicle’s spark, perform the following steps:
1. Adjust the ignition system tester to the spark air gap distance specified in your vehicle’s service manual. If the service manual does not specify a spark air gap, start at 6mm. Hand-tighten the locknut after adjusting the grounding bolt.
2. Disconnect the spark plug cap and remove the spark plug.
3. Connect the spark plug cap to the ignition system tester. Make sure a firm connection is made.
4. Ground the spark tester against the engine and away from the spark plug hole. Turn the ignition system tester so that its terminals face away from the open spark plug hole.
5. Crank or kick start the engine while observing the ignition system tester terminals.
Interpret the results as follows:
A good spark is blue in color and should easily jump the spark air gap specified in Step 1.
A weak spark is yellow in color and indicates a problem in the ignition system.
If there is no spark across the tester terminals, check the spark plug cap and wire connection, then repeat the
test. If there is still no spark, there is a problem in the ignition system.
If the spark is yellow in color, or there is no spark, refer to a service manual and troubleshoot the ignition system.
If the spark jumps the air gap and is blue in color, but the engine will not start, refer to a service manual and check the fuel and engine compression systems.
