Electrical
requirements
Check that the voltage on the rating plate
of your appliance corresponds with your
house electricity supply which must be A.C.
(Alternating Current).
If the socket outlets in your home are not
suitable for the plug supplied with this
appliance, the plug should be removed and
the appropriate one fitted.
WARNING: The plug removed from
the mains lead, if severed, must be
destroyed as a plug with bared flexible
cord is hazardous if engaged into a live
socket outlet.
WARNING: This appliance must be
earthed.
Should the fuse in the 13 amp plug
require changing, a 13 amp BS1362 fuse
must be fitted.
Using
1 Fill the kettle with water through the
spout.
• Always fill through the spout, as this
helps to free the filter from limescale
build-up.
• The integrated water level gauge/viewing
lid allows you to easily see the amount of
water in the kettle.
• Always put in enough water to cover the
bottom of the kettle.
• Boil only as much water as you need as
this saves electricity.
2 Cordless models
Place the kettle on the base unit,
ensuring the kettle locates on to the 360°
connector.
• The 360° connector allows the kettle to
be located at any position - ideal for left
and right handed users and convenient
positioning on your worktop.
2 Corded models
Push the mains lead firmly into the kettle.
3 Plug in and switch on at the wall socket.
4 Switch the kettle on. The ‘power on’
indicator neon will light up, in the case of
the Opera jug, the water level indicator
will illuminate from behind.
5 When the water boils, the kettle will
switch off automatically. The Opera jug
will then whistle - see ‘Opera models’.
• If you are using the kettle for the first
time, pour away the boiled water and
refill.
6 Lift the kettle from the base unit by the
handle ensuring you hold the kettle level.
•To re-boil, switch to ON again. If the
kettle has just switched off wait a minute
or so before switching it back on again.
• If you do not put in enough water, or
switch on the kettle when it is empty, the
safety cut-out will switch off the power
automatically. If this happens, wait a few
minutes for the element to cool, then refill
and use as normal.
Mini jug models
The mini jug can be used on voltages
between 110V and 240V AC.
Ensure the correct plug adaptor is used
when operating in a country not using the
UK 13 amp socket system. If in doubt
consult a competent electrician.
• If using the jug on a 110 volt supply, the
water will take considerably longer to
boil.
Opera models
The Opera whistle can be turned on and
off by the switch on the bottom of the
cordless base Ë.
Filter removal
1 Open the lid.
2 Lift the filter upwards from its location
using the tab provided.
3 To refit the filter, slot it into the side wall

and lock securely.
