Getting the best from your new cleaner...
Filters
It is important that the pleated filter is clicked clean each time the dust canister is emptied to allow air through the appliance. Wash the pleated filter regularly in warm water and allow to air dry. A spare pleated filter is included.
Check nozzles, tubes, hose and connectors for blockages. Note: The floor nozzle hose can be released for inspection see page 6.
Adjustable height handle
You can adjust the handle height to suit different height users, for carrying and for storage. Please see page 4 for details.
Safety cut-out
Both the suction and beater bar motors are protected by safety cut-outs.
See page 6 for more details. If these operate it is important to unplug from the main supply before attempting any remedial action.
Allergy sufferers

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
The use of any electrical appliance requires the following common sense safety rules.
Primarily there is danger of injury or death and secondly the danger of damage to the appliance.
Location
• Do not use or keep this product outside.
• Do not store the appliance near hot surfaces eg ovens or heating appliances.
Mains lead
• Do not allow the mains lead to become strained or run this appliance over it.
• If the electrical cable becomes damaged the cable assembly must be replaced. Do not attempt this task yourself, contact the helpline number that is found at the bottom of the page.
Personal safety
• WARNING: Keep loose clothing, hair, fingers etc. away from the floor nozzle whenever the cleaner is connected to the mains.
• WARNING: Only lift the product by the handles and Ô.
WARNING: Disconnect from the mains supply before attempting to clear any blockages or accessing the floor nozzle.
• Disconnect from the mains supply before cleaning or emptying the appliance.
• Never modify the cleaner in any way.
• Never use in the presence of explosive liquid or vapours.
• Never pick up inflammable or poisonous liquids such as petrol, copier toner or other volatile substances.
• Never pick up acids, asbestos, asbestos dust or other hazardous dusts.
• Never touch the plug or cable with wet hands.
• Unprofessional repairs can be dangerous for users.
• Use only Morphy Richards spare parts and accessories.
• The appliance must never be left running unsupervised.
• This appliance is intended for domestic use only. Misuse or use for commercial or any other purpose will render the guarantee invalid.
• Always disconnect the appliance from the main supply after use.
• To protect against fire, electric shock and personal injury do not immerse cord, plug or cleaner in water or other liquid.
Product safety
• Never use the appliance without the filters being installed.
• Never use the appliance to vacuum hot ashes, broken glass, sharp objects or liquids.
Children
• Children do not understand the dangers associated with operating electrical appliances. Never allow children to use this appliance.
Electrical requirements
Check that the voltage on the rating plate of your appliance corresponds with your house electricity supply which must be A.C. (Alternating Current).
If the socket outlets in your home are not suitable for the plug supplied with this appliance, the plug should be removed and the appropriate one fitted.
WARNING: The plug removed from the mains lead, if severed, must be destroyed as a plug with a bared flexible cord is hazardous if engaged into a live socket outlet.
Should the fuse in the 13 amp plug require changing, a 13 amp BS1362 fuse must be fitted.

Assembly
WARNING: Do not plug in the cleaner until it is assembled.
1 Carefully unpack all
components.
2 Lift cleaner body to upright
position.
3 Insert the handle, with the ‘D’
shape facing forward into the hole on the top of the product. Push down until it clicks.
NOTE: The handle may be removed by lifting while simultaneously pushing the release button with a suitable tool eg. a small screwdriver. A.The release button is located in a hole at the rear of the product just above the cable cleat. Rotate the cable cleat downwards for easier access.

1 The handle height can be
adjusted to suit different height users or pushed fully down for easier carrying and storage.
2 Pull the adjustable height trigger
upwards whilst pulling the handle upwards or pushing the handle downwards depending on the desired height.
3 For carrying and storage pull
adjustable height trigger upwards and push handle fully down until it clicks into place.
OPERATING THE APPLIANCE
Using on carpets
1 Place cleaner in its upright
position.
2 Release the mains cable by
turning the quick release cleat Á half a turn and extend the cable fully.
3 Plug the mains cable into the
mains socket.
4 Adjust the handle to the required
height.
5 Clip the cable into the cable clip
holder Ò at the rear of the handle.
6 Place your foot on the foot pad
· on the floorhead whilst pulling the handle towards you to release the handle into the cleaning position C.
7 Press the power on/off switch
¤Don the floorhead for the main power. Then press the brush-bar on/off switch ‹ to activate the brush-bar motor for carpet cleaning.
IMPORTANT: To prevent damage to carpets, never leave the cleaner switched on in one place for an extended period.
IMPORTANT: The rotating brush bar will automatically stop when the cleaner is put into the upright position.
Using on hard floors
Follow steps 1-6 from the instructions for ‘Using on carpets.’
Press the brush bar on/off pedal to turn the brush bar off.
Using the hose and attachments
1 Take the flexible hose Ê out of
the storage holder.
2 Pull down the hose connector
inlet flap È and insert the hose connector with its ‘mouth’ pointing upwards E. Push the hose connector fully in such that the flap latches on to the connector.
3 Add the required accessory
directly to the tube connector Í or fit the extension tubes for maximum reach.
4 When removing the connector,
gently lower the flap slightly to release the catch then withdraw the connector.

suction is directed to the hose. Remove the connector before returning to general cleaning with the floor nozzle Â.
Under furniture cleaning

The unique pivot point on this product allows the whole head to fit under low furniture for better cleaning performance.
Using & cleaning the turbo nozzle
ı
(Exclusive to 73371 only) Attach the turbo nozzle to the
tube connector Í for use on upholstery and stairs.
After use your turbo nozzle may become clogged. Turn over the nozzle and pull away any hairs or fibres. If they are tightly wound around the brush carefully snip the fibres with scissors, being careful not to damage the brush bar, pull away from the bar and dispose.
DUST CANISTER
Emptying
1 Every time the dust canister is
emptied, rotate the filter cleaning dial Gfiseveral times clockwise before emptying (this will agitate the fine dust between the filter pleats and restore the air flow).
2 Remove the dust canister from
the product by pressing the canister release button H ›.
3 Holding the canister over a
dustbin press the one touch empty button I◊ and the bottom of the canister will drop down and release the dirt.
4 Close the bottom of the dust
canister by pressing the base upwards until it clicks into place.
5 Re-fit dust canister and push
back into position.
Allergy sufferers
If the allergy suffer is emptying the product it is recommended that the container is placed into a plastic bag to empty.
1 Place the container inside the
plastic bag, releasing the container with one hand whilst holding the top of the bag closed with the other. Leave the dust to settle for a few seconds before removing the dust canister. The plastic bag can then be sealed and disposed of.
FILTERS
Cleaning
To maintain suction the pleated filter must be cleaned using the cleaning dial each time the dust canister is emptied. To clean, turn the filter cleaning dial clockwise several times G before emptying.
Pleated filter
In addition to cleaning the pleated filter with the cleaning dial each time the dust caniser is emptied. It is recommended to regularly remove and wash (or thoroughly brush off) the pleated filter.
To thoroughly clean the filter it can be washed in warm water (no detergent). Leave the filter to air dry. Ensure the filter is thoroughly dry before refitting. The spare pleated filter allows one filter to be washed and dried whilst the other is in use. The section below describes how to access the pleated filter.
Cleaning the dust canister filter assembly
1 Operate the filter cleaning dial
several times and empty the dust canister over a bin and then close the canister.
2 To access the filter assembly
rotate the dust canister lid ˘ anti clockwise and remove from the dust canister J.

3 Turn the central mesh filter ˜
clockwise to remove and clean as required K.
4 Detach the pleated filter ˆ from
the dust canister lid ˘ by a firm pull/twist action L.
5 Both the mesh and pleated
filters may be washed in warm water (no detergent). Allow to air dry. Ensure the filters are thoroughly dry before refitting
6 Re-locate the pleated filter back
into position on the dust canister lid by aligning the tabs on the dust canister lid ˘L with the cut away sections on the pleated filter before pushing into place.
Refit the mesh filter and turn anti-clockwise to lock into position on the dust canister lid.
Re-attach the dust canister lid on to the dust canister by aligning the arrows J. This will
be easier with the dust canister bottom open. Then
rotate the lid clockwise to lock.
Motor protection filter
The motor protection filter ¯ is located underneath the dust canister M.
1 Remove the dust canister.
2 Lift out the filter and shake over
a dustbin. The filter may also be washed in warm water (no detergents). Allow the filter to air dry. Ensure the filter is thoroughly dry before refitting.
3 Replace the filter.
Exhaust filter
The allergy exhaust filter should be replaced every 6 months to maintain the high performance filtration. Call our Replacement Parts Helpline.
The exhaust filter is located below the dust canister compartment.
1 Remove the
exhaust filter grille. ‚ N
2 Remove the
exhaust filter by pulling forward at the top and lifting away.
3 Fit the
replacement filter.
4 Refit the grille.
5 Dispose of the used filter in the
dust bin.
HINTS AND TIPS
Safety cut-out
(Suction motor) If the cleaner overheats a motor
protection thermostat will automatically switch the motor off. If this happens, switch the cleaner off, unplug from the power supply and leave the cleaner to cool for at least 60 minutes. Check the airways for blockages, empty dust canister and clean the filters before restarting.
Safety cut out
(brush-bar motor)
If a large item or rug edge jams the brush-bar a safety cut-out will operate. If this happens switch off and unplug before cleaning the blockage. Wait 1 minute before switching back on.
Blockages
If the performance has deteriorated there may be a blockage. Check the hose and tools. Check the dust canister inlet.
Check the floor nozzle hose Ó. The upper end of the floor nozzle hose may be disconnected for inspection by squeezing the release clips and pulling down O. Clear any blockages and refit securely before re-use. Make sure the clips are fully clipped back into place.

Cleaning and maintenance
Unplug from the mains before cleaning. The vacuum cleaner, especially the dust compartment and all accessories can be cleaned using a damp cloth or a non-abrasive cleaner and wiped dry.
PURCHASING REPLACEMENT FILTERS
Use only original Morphy Richards filters. These can be purchased from Morphy Richards on the Replacement parts line.
Accessing the floor nozzle
The floor nozzle top cover may be removed to clear any blockages.
1 Switch off and unplug.
2 Release the upright section and
lay the cleaner flat on the floor.
3 Using a coin, rotate the rear
release clips a quarter of a turn, lift the rear of the cover and un­hook from the front edge P.
4 Clear any blockage.
5 To refit, hook the front edge in
first then close. Rotate the rear clips a quarter of a turn to secure.
6 Lift the upright section back to
vertical until it clicks into position.

It is important to retain the retailers receipt as proof of purchase. Staple your receipt to this back cover for future reference.
Please quote the following information if the product develops a fault. These numbers can be found on the base of the product.
Model no.
Serial no.
All Morphy Richards products are individually tested before leaving the factory. In the unlikely event of any appliance proving to be faulty within 28 days of purchase it should be returned to the place of purchase for it to be replaced.
If the fault develops after 28 days and within 24 months of original purchase, you should contact the Helpline number quoting Model number and Serial number on the product, or write to Morphy Richards at the address shown.
You may be asked to return a copy of proof of purchase.
Subject to the exclusions set out below (see Exclusions) the faulty appliance will then be repaired or replaced and dispatched usually within 7 working days of receipt.
If you suspect a fault, follow the simple checks detailed below before retrying the appliance or
calling the helpline.
• Check the filters for blockages.
• Check the tools / tubes for blockages.
• Check the plug firmly in the socket is working by trying another appliance.
• Check the fuse in the plug.
If for any reason this item is replaced during the 2 year guarantee period, the guarantee on the new item will be calculated from original purchase date. Therefore it is vital to retain your original till receipt or invoice to indicate the date of initial purchase.
To qualify for the 2 year guarantee the appliance must have been used according to the instructions supplied.
EXCLUSIONS
Morphy Richards shall not be liable to replace or repair the goods under the terms of the guarantee where:
1 The fault has been caused
or is attributable to accidental use, misuse, negligent use or used contrary to the manufacturers recommendations or where the fault has been caused by power surges or damage caused in transit.
2 The appliance has been
used on a voltage supply other than that stamped on the product.
3 Repairs have been
attempted by persons other than our service staff (or authorised dealer).
4 Where the appliance has
been used for hire purposes or non domestic use.
5 Morphy Richards are not
liable to carry out any type of servicing work under the guarantee.
6 The guarantee excludes
consumables such as some filters.
• This guarantee does not confer any rights other than those expressly set out above and does not cover any claims for consequential loss or damage. This guarantee is offered as an additional benefit and does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
• This guarantee is valid in the UK and Ireland only.
