Important safety instructions
The use of any electrical appliance requires the following common sense safety rules.
Primarily there is danger of injury or death and secondly the danger of damage to the appliance. These are indicated in the text by the following two conventions:
WARNING: Danger to the person!
IMPORTANT: Damage to the appliance! In addition we offer the following safety advice.
Location
• Do not use outdoors.
Children
• Close supervision is necessary when any
appliance is used near children.
Personal safety
•WARNING: Burns can occur from
touching hot metal parts, hot water
or steam.
•WARNING: To protect against the
risk of electric shock do not put the
appliance in water or in any other
liquid.
• Do not use the vertical steam feature on
clothes that are being worn.
• Do not leave the steam station
unattended whilst plugged in or on an
ironing board. Never allow the mains
cord to over hang the work surface.
• The socket should always be off before
plugging or unplugging from the socket.
Never yank the cord to disconnect from
the socket, instead, grasp plug and pull
to disconnect.
• Do not allow the cord to touch hot
surfaces. Let the steam station cool
completely before putting away.
Other safety considerations
• Use the steam station only for its intended use.
• Always disconnect the steam station from the electrical socket when filling the tank and when not in use.
• Do not operate the steam station with a damaged cord or if the steam station has been dropped or damaged. To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble the steam station, but telephone Morphy Richards for advice. Incorrect reassembly can cause a risk of electric shock when the steam station is used.
Special instructions
• If your steam station does not work, check the following points:
Has the temperature control been set to
the required temperature? Is the plug in its socket? Is the plug itself or the socket faulty? (Check by plugging in another appliance).
•WARNING: When not in use, your steam station should never be left on an ironing board unattended.
•To prevent damage to the textile being ironed, follow the temperature guide carefully. (Test the inside of the hem of the garment).
• When ironing is complete, remove the plug from the socket and allow to cool before storage.
• If you drop or severely knock your steam station this could cause internal damage even if the outside appears alright. Have it checked by a qualified electrician.
• It is recommended that everytime the steam station is used the steam button is depressed away from the ironing board for approximately 30 seconds.
This enables the iron to discharge any
droplets of water held in the system.
• This process should be applied if you have not steam ironed for several minutes.

If the socket outlets in your home are not suitable for the plug supplied with this appliance the plug should be removed and the appropriate one fitted.

Before use
Note: The steam facility should only be used on garments which are suitable for ironing at the 3 dot setting.
Clothes can be steam ironed at the 2 dot setting, but only for a short period.
Textiles and clothes are supposed to carry ironing instructions. If they don’t you should follow the fabric guide on page 3, but be sure to test the temperature by ironing the hem of the garment or similar area first.
If you turn the control dial down from a hot setting to a cooler setting, wait until the steam station temperature has stabilised before you continue ironing.
Filling
1 Make sure that the steam station is not
plugged in before filling the tank with water.
2 Lift up the fill cap ¤ and fill the tank
with water through the filling hole using the funnel provided. A 1.1 litres fills the tank. After filling replace the fill cap. In hard water areas the use of distilled or demineralised water is recommended.
WARNING: Never use battery topping up fluid or water containing any substances like starch, or sugar, or defrosted water from a refrigerator. 3 Always pour out the remaining water if the
product is not to be used for a few
weeks. Water can be left in the unit
between normal ironing periods.
WARNING: When filling your steam station with tap water always use the funnel provided. Never fill directly under the tap.
Temperature control
Plug in the steam station and switch on. Set the temperature control dial on the iron B to the temperature required, but don’t start ironing immediately.

If you wait a few minutes, the steam station will stabilise at the required setting. Your Morphy Richards iron is fitted with an indicator light · which will go on and off while you are ironing.
This is perfectly normal as it shows that the iron is maintaining the heat setting you have chosen.
It is always a good idea to begin with cool fabrics and work up to higher settings.
An iron heats up quicker than it cools down so you’ll save time and electricity.
Features of your iron
Temperature indicator light
The indicator light shows that the iron is warming up. When the required temperature is reached the light will go out and will cycle on-off during operation.
Dry ironing
You can use your steam station as a dry iron only.
Any temperature setting may be used depending on the garment. You do not need to put any water in the tank when dry ironing only.
'Click' on - 'click' off steam button
To activate the steam press the steam button once and release. The indicator light will illuminate, indicating the iron is in steam mode. The first time you use the steam station, it will take approximately 30 seconds for the steam to start. Any noise will be due to the pump removing air from the system.
To stop the steam, press and release the steam button ⁄ again.
Note: When the tank needs re-filling with water the pump will become noisy.
This is quite normal but the tank should be immediately filled with water. Failure to do so could damage the steam system.
Anti-scale system
The anti-scale cartridge is designed to reduce build-up of limescale which occurs during steam ironing, this will prolong the working life of your steam station. However please note that the anti-scale cartridge will not completely stop the natural process of limescale build-up.
Anti-scale cartridge replacement 1 Press the release button to the side of
the cartridge. C
2 Lift out the old unit and replace with a
new one. 3 Press to lock in position.
How often you need to replace your anti-scale cartridge depends on how often you use your iron with its steam functions and how ‘hard’ your water supply is. Water hardness varies greatly from one area to another. For advice on the relative hardness of your water, contact your local water supplier.
However, please note that the anti-scale cartridge will not completely stop the natural process of limescale build-up. If in average you spend 2 hours per week ironing, then we suggest you replace your anti-scale cartridge as shown in the table below. If you iron more or less frequently then you should alter the interval between re-fills accordingly.

Emptying and storing
When you have finished ironing, unplug your steam station. Ensure that the steam control is set to the 'OFF' position.
Do not store in the box, place the iron onto the steam station base and allow to cool before storage.
Maintenance
WARNING: Do not attempt to descale the steam station with descaling products.
To clean a stainless steel soleplate
To keep the soleplate of your steam station clean and free of limescale, we recommend that you use one of the gentle chrome, silver or stainless steel cleaners that are generally available. Always follow the manufacturers instructions. To clean off melted man-made fibres set the steam station at 3 dot position and pass it over a clean piece of cotton which will draw the deposit off the surface.
To clean the exterior
Allow the steam station to cool and wipe the iron and base unit with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then wipe with a dry cloth.
