HIGH-PERFORMANCE CORDLESS THERMOCERAMIC STRAIGHTENER WITH
TOURMALINE PROTECTION AND DIGITAL CONTROL
THERMOCERAMIC & TOURMALINE
CORDLESS STRAIGHTENER
Your new cordless straightener has been designed by electrical experts Morphy Richards and twice international hairdresser of the year Mark Hill. Use this style guide to help you get the most from your styling tool.
Morphy Richards Mark Hill styling tools combine powerful ThermoCeramic heating technology with the added protection and performance of Tourmaline. This semi-precious gemstone has unique infrared and ionic properties. Negative ions are emitted close to the hair cuticles to create an ultra-sleek surface and to capture essential moisture, preventing over-drying and damage. The results? Super-enhanced shine, amazing colour and unrivalled protection.
STEP 1: DRYING YOUR HAIR
1 After you have shampooed and conditioned your hair,
comb through gently using a wide toothcomb. Hair stretches when wet, up to 1/3 of its length, and by being too rough at this stage, you could damage your hair
1 Before you apply a heat protection spray, use your
hairdryer to ‘waft’ the excess moisture from your hair. If you apply a styling product on very wet hair, you may dilute the product, making it less effective. Apply the heat protection spray evenly from the roots of your hair to the ends
1 Using sectioning clips take a small section of hair from
the nape of the neck, and secure the rest of your hair away from it. Using a paddle brush, dry the hair, pointing the hairdryer down the hair from roots to ends to help avoid any ‘frizzy’ bits
1 Once this section is dry, use the cool button for a
couple of seconds to ‘set’ the hair
1 Take the next section of hair, dry and cool. Do this for
the rest of your hair. This may take a little longer then you are used to at first, but the results you achieve will be worth it, and your style will last longer
STEP 2: STRAIGHTENING YOUR HAIR
1 On thoroughly dry hair, section hair from the nape of the
neck no deeper than 2cm and secure the rest of the hair away with clips
1 Using the + and – buttons select the right temperature
for your hair. For instructions on how to find the right temperature reference the instruction section within this book. Note that most hair types will not require the maximum temperature of 200˚C
1 Clamp the roots of the section between the
straightening plates
1 Gently and swiftly run the straighteners down the hair for
5 seconds
1 Take the next section and repeat until desired effect
is achieved
1 Finish by running a wide toothcomb through the hair
STYLE VARIATIONS
To retain plenty of body and bounce
Straighten only the top sections of the hair around the crown areas to give a smooth yet voluminous finish.
To create softness and shape around the face
While gliding the straightener down your hair, as you get half way down the section, turn your wrist inwards to shape the hair around your face and frame your features perfectly.
For a choppier texture
Flick-out hair at the very ends by turning wrists outwards as you get about two thirds of the way down your section.
USING YOUR STRAIGHTENER:
1. After washing your hair, it’s really important to prepare it for styling. If you use lots of heated
styling tools on your hair use a heat protection spray before you begin styling. Always dry the excess water from your hair using a towel, and then use a wide toothcomb to detangle and smooth your hair.
2. Use your hairdryer until your hair is completely dry.
3. Divide your hair into sections, and comb each section through.
4. Use sectioning clips to clip hair out of the way so you can straighten hair thoroughly.
5. Plug in your hair straightener base at the mains. There is space for cable storage in the
straightener base, so you may need to unwind the cable to reach your mains socket.
6. Press and hold the On/Off button and the digital display will illuminate to show the product is switched on and is heating up. The temperature will be displayed on the screen (the unit will switch on at 120 degrees). To alter the temperature use the +/- buttons until you find the best setting for your hair type. The minimum setting is 120 degrees which is ideal for fine hair, the maximum temperature is 200 degrees which is better for thicker or coarser hair. You should experiment to find the lowest setting your hair needs to help minimise damage.
7. When ready for use, the word ‘ready’ will appear on the screen and begin to flash. Lift your straightener from the base (the word ready will disappear to indicate the straightener has been removed from the base). Clamp a section of the hair between the straightening plates, as close to the roots as possible. Gently slide the straightener down your hair shaft to the ends. For more difficult sections of hair, you may need to do this again. Repeat on all sections of the hair.
8. To ensure optimum performance, you will need to replace the straightener back in the base approximately every 4 minutes. It’s really easy to do this while you section the next piece of hair to straighten. Leave the straightener in the base for a few seconds and full temperature will be regained. ‘Ready’ will begin to flash on the digital display to indicate the straightener has reached full temperature and is ready to use again.
9. Don’t forget to switch off your straighteners at the base unit by pressing and holding the on/off button.
10. Never wind the mains cable around the straightener – use the cable storage available in the base unit.
WIRING
The product is fitted with a 13A (BS1363) plug. A 13A fuse (BS1362) must be used. Check the voltage on the rating plate of your appliance corresponds with your house electricity supply which must be AC (Alternating Current). If the socket outlets in your home are not suitable for the plug supplied with this appliance the plug should be removed and an appropriate one fitted.
IMPORTANT: THE PLUG, REMOVED FROM THE MAINS LEAD, IF SEVERED, MUST BE DESTROYED AS A PLUG WITH BARED FLEXIBLE CORD IS HAZARDOUS IF ENGAGED INTO A LIVE SOCKET OUTLET.
CLEANING YOUR STRAIGHTENER
Over time, you will find a natural build up on your straightening plates. This can be caused by natural oils in your hair and styling products and lotions. At the first sign of build up, you should clean your straightening plates. To do this, always switch your straightener off and wait for them to cool down. Wipe with a damp cloth, or a non abrasive cleaning wipe. Failure to do this may mean the build up becomes burnt onto the straightening plates and they will become difficult to clean. If your straightening plates do become discoloured it will NOT affect their performance.
MAINS LEAD
As a safety precaution, and to prolong the life of your appliance, do not wrap the mains lead around the straightener unit. Use the cable storage provided in the base unit.
SAFETY INFORMATION
When using your hair straightener, basic safety precautions should always be followed. Please read these instructions carefully before using the product, and keep them in a safe place for future reference.
1. This straightener is of professional standard, and reaches very high temperatures. Always be
careful not to allow the plates to come into contact with the skin.
2. Do not leave the plates in contact with the hair for more than a few seconds. The straightener reaches very high temperatures, so there is no need to leave the hair between the plates for longer than a few seconds. This will avoid unnecessary damage to the hair cuticle.
3. Use the appliance for its intended use only.
4. To protect against the risk of electric shock, do not immerse the appliance in water or any
other liquids.
5. The appliance is not intended for use by children or other persons without assistance or supervision if their physical, sensory or mental capabilities prevent them from using it safely. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
6. Always unplug your appliance when it is not in use.
7. Do not leave the straightener switched on while unattended.
8. Do not use this appliance near bathtubs, showers, basins or other vessels containing water.
9. In the event of cable damage, do not attempt to replace the mains cable, return to
Morphy Richards.
10. After use, do not store until the product has cooled down.
11. Do not place the straightener on surfaces likely to be damaged by the heat.
12. Ensure your hair is completely dry before you begin straightening. Applying high
temperatures to damp or wet hair will increase the probability of hair breaking or becoming permanently damaged.
13. Try and use your straightener for as short a time as possible – prolonged use can cause unnecessary damage to your hair.
14. The appliance should be used with the stand provided.
