Performance is the result of a
comprehensive three-year research
and development programme
culminating in major technological
advancements. Progressive
technologies include the introduction
of proprietary polymer resin cabinet
construction, which makes possible
radical sculpting and has incredible
inherent mechanical strength, both
drastically improving sound quality.
Just as revolutionary is
Performance’s ATT™ (Aspirated
Tweeter Technology). Unconstrained
by conventional loudspeaker cabinets,
the beautiful elongated metal and
mechanically isolated tweeter floats
freely from the rest of the cabinet.
Along its length are strategically
positioned vents eliminating the
colouration which plagues traditional
closed-back cabinets. ATT™ means
the unique Performance high
frequency drivers literally ‘breathe’.
Finally, Performance employs
Mordaunt-Short’s latest generation
CPC™ (Continuous Profile Cone)
driver technology, mounted on unique,
critically profiled SDS (Sound
Deadening Steel) chassis, while
bespoke silver-plated wiring is used
throughout. No corner has been cut
producing the perfect Performance.
The five-strong range comprises a
three-way floorstander, two-and-a-
half-way floorstander, dedicated rear
and centre channels, as well as a high
power subwoofer with digital
amplification. Performance has been
developed to deliver the ultimate
experience, whether in stereo or the
latest multi-channel formats.
ATT™
ATT™ (Aspirated Tweeter
Technology) breaks-away from
the restrictions of a
conventional cabinet. The
elongated metal diffuser –
whose form is defined by
complex acoustic principles –
floats freely from the rest of the
cabinet in a discreet enclosure.
The unique venting system
means Performance’s tweeter
literally ‘breathes’,resulting in
an open yet detailed sound.
Crossover
All Performance designs
feature individually selected,
high-grade audiophile
components housed in
mechanically isolated
enclosures to ensure distortion-
free operation. Bespoke silver-
plated wiring – the best signal
conductor available – is used
throughout the designs. Nickel-
plated,bullet terminals offer a
durable,accurate signal
transfer and enable either tri-
or bi-wiring.
SDS™
The driver chassis are
constructed from highly
advanced Sound Deadening
Steel (SDS). The mechanical
properties of the laminate
material completely eliminate
unwanted resonance. Housed
within these state-of-the-art
mountings are the latest
generation,anodised
aluminium CPC (Continuous
Profile Cone) drivers.
Performance 6
Three years in development, Performance 6 is the flagship design in Mordaunt-Short’s
remarkable new high-end surround sound loudspeaker series
The ported cabinets of
Performance 6 eschew the
parallel surfaces of conventional
design, delivering a beautifully
sculpted form, which
revolutionises the concept of
loudspeakers.
And here beauty is more than
skin deep. The unusual shape
eliminates colouration and has
unsurpassed inherent
mechanical strength,
dramatically improving sound
quality. This is enhanced by a
heavy cast metal base with
spiked feet.
Such radical profiling is
possible through the use of a
complex polymer resin. Enabling
injection-moulded monocoque
construction the compound’s
density can be varied to within
less than one hundredth of a
gram. So, while the outside of
the Performance enclosure is
rock hard, inside the cabinet is
far less dense, delivering high
acoustic damping and low stored
energy.
Housed in these extraordinary
cabinets are an equally
impressive array of drivers,
taking in the aspirated ATT™
tweeter and the latest
generation, anodised aluminium
CPC™ (Continuous Profile Cone)
drivers.
CPC’s clean lines are
fundamental to its superior audio
reproduction. The uninterrupted
cone surface ensures excellent
rigidity and therefore minimal
distortion. Such uncompromising
characteristics are enhanced by
the use of aluminium.
A 10cm mid/bass driver and
two 16.5cm woofers sit in their
own enclosures and are mounted
to the rear of the cabinet
isolating them from any front
baffle resonance. The driver
chassis use proprietary SDS™
(Sound Deadening Steel)
designed to avoid proximity
colouration. In the case of the
mid/bass driver this is enhanced
by the use of smaller Neodymium
magnets, which offer higher
dynamic levels.
The cone edge makes use of
Mordaunt-Short’s V-Form
technologies. This employs an
innovative connection, which
exposes more of the driver and
aids the structural rigidity of the
assembly. The surround itself
varies in thickness, aiding
accurate, pistonic operation, and
allows the dish to operate
incredibly freely, delivering huge
benefits in timing performance.
An aerospace-grade visco-elastic
coupling between cone and
voice coil completes the drivers.
Bringing everything together is
a three-way crossover, sitting in
its own enclosure to ensure
distortion free operation. This
uses only the highest-grade
audiophile components while
bespoke silver-plated wiring
connects it to each of the four
drive units.
