This device is intended for indoor use only.
Do not expose this device to water or moisture of any kind. Do not place drinks or

Take care to prevent damage to the power cord. Do not allow it to become
crimped, pinched, walked on, or become tangled with other cords. Ensure that the

Remove the batteries from the controller if it will go unused for a lengthy period of
time.
Clean using a soft, dry cloth only. Do not use chemical cleaners, solvents, or
detergents. For stubborn deposits, moisten the cloth with warm water.
This device has no user serviceable parts. Do not attempt to open, service, or
modify this device.
INTRODUCTION
This Blackbird™ 6G-SDI to HDMI® Converter is designed to convert an SDI video signal to
an HDMI output. It has a maximum input resolution of 4K@30Hz 4:2:2 and a maximum
output resolution of 4K@30Hz 4:4:4. It has the ability to extract the audio from the SDI
signal and output either stereo analog audio or AES/EBU digital audio (aka AES3). It
features an 8-pin DIP switch to lock or unlock the buttons or to select one of the external
audio options.

Front Panel
1. HDMI OUT: HDMI® port for connecting an HDMI display.
2. AUDIO LED: The LED illuminates blue when the SDI signal contains audio.
3. L - ANALOG or AES/EBU: 3.5mm jack for outputting left channel balanced analog
audio or AES/EBU digital audio.
4. R - ANALOG: 3.5mm jack for outputting right channel balanced analog audio.

Rear Panel
1. DC 12V: DC barrel connector for connecting the included AC power adapter.
2. POWER LED: The LED illuminates red when power is applied.
3. SDI IN 1: BNC connector for connecting an SDI video source.

5. SDI OUT: BNC connector for connecting an SDI output device.
6. SOURCE LED: The LED illuminates blue when an input signal is detected on SDI IN 1.
The LED blinks blue when an input signal is detected on SDI IN 2.

1. DIP SWITCHES: 8 DIP switches for locking or unlocking the top panel buttons and
enabling or disabling external audio. The DIP switch is ON (1) when it is in the down

1. AUDIO: Press the AUDIO button to cycle through the audio options. See the

2. VOLUME: Press the up or down VOLUME buttons to increase or decrease the
output volume level. The LEDs to the left of the buttons indicate the volume level.
3. MUTE: Press the MUTE button to enable or disable audio muting.

SAMPLE CONNECTION DIAGRAM
INSTALLATION
Perform the following steps to install the 6G-SDI to HDMI® converter.
1. Ensure that all equipment to be connected is powered off and unplugged from its
power source.
2. Place or mount the converter in its intended location.
3. Using a High Speed HDMI® Cable (not included), plug one end into the HDMI input
on your HDMI display, then plug the other end into the HDMI OUT port on the
converter.
4. (Optional) Using a 6G-SDI cable (not included), plug one end into the SDI input of an
SDI display, then plug the other end into the SDI OUT connector on the converter.
5. Using a 6G-SDI cable (not included), plug one end into the SDI IN 1 connector on the
converter, then plug the other end into the output of your SDI source device (e.g.,
camera).

SDI source device.
7. (Optional) Using an audio cable with a 3.5mm mono TS jack on one end, plug one
end into the L-ANALOG jack on the converter, then plug the other end into the left
channel input of an external audio device. Then repeat for the R-ANALOG jack and
the right channel input of an external audio device. Alternatively, using a digital
audio AES or EBU cable with a 3.5mm plug on one end, plug one end into the
AES/EBU jack on the converter, then plug the other end into the digital audio input
of an external audio device.
8. Plug the DC barrel connector of the included AC power adapter into the DC 12V
connector on the converter, then plug the adapter into a nearby AC power outlet.
The POWER LED on the converter will illuminate red.
9. Start video playback on your source device, then verify that video can be seen on
the HDMI® display.
Congratulations, your 6G-SDI to HDMI converter is installed and ready for use!

Audio De-embed
DIP switches 2, 3, and 4 are used to select which one of eight pairs of audio channels to de-
embed from the SDI input. The following table identifies which audio channels are selected
with the eight possible DIP switch positions.

Button Lock
DIP switch 6 controls the button lock status. Place DIP switch 6 in the OFF position
to UNLOCK the top panel buttons or put it in the ON position to LOCK the top panel
buttons.
Audio Selection
DIP switch 8 determines de-embedded audio will be ANALOG or AES/EBU digital.
Place DIP switch 8 in the OFF position for ANALOG audio or put it in the ON
position for AES/EBU digital audio.
AUDIO BUTTON
Use the AUDIO button to select analog left channel, analog right channel, analog stereo, or
AES/EBU digital audio. The LEDs indicate the audio selection according to the following
table.
