This device is intended for indoor use only. Do not expose this device to water or moisture of any kind. Do not place drinks or

before reapplying power.

hands.

Prior to operation, check the unit and power cord for physical damage. Do not use if
physical damage has occurred.
Before plugging the unit into a power outlet, ensure that the outlet provides the
same type and level of power required by the device.
Unplug this device from the power source when not in use. Take care to prevent damage to the power cord. Do not allow it to become
crimped, pinched, walked on, or become tangled with other cords. Ensure that the
power cord does not present a tripping hazard.
Never unplug the unit by pulling on the power cord. Always grasp the connector
head or adapter body.
Ensure that power is turned off and disconnected before making any electrical
connections.
Clean using a soft, dry cloth only. Do not use chemical cleaners, solvents, or
detergents. For stubborn deposits, moisten the cloth with warm water.
This device has no user serviceable parts. Do not attempt to open, service, or
modify this device.

INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing this Blackbird™ 4K HDBaseT Extender Kit! This kit allows you to
extend 1080p@60Hz HDMI® signals to distances up to 229 feet (70 meters) and 4K@60Hz
signals to distances up to 131 feet (40 meters) over a single Cat6 Ethernet cable. It supports
IR and RS-232 pass-through and employs Visually Lossless Compression (VLC) technology
to ensure flawless UHD video transmission.

1. MODE SWITCH: Put the Mode switch in the CTRL position for normal operation and
to allow RS-232 control pass-through. Put the switch in the UPDATE A position to
update the Valens IC program. Finally, put the switch in the UPDATE B position to
update the compression IC program.
2. POWER LED: The LED illuminates red when power is applied.
3. HDMI IN: HDMI® port for connecting the video source device.
4. Tx/Rx: 3-pin Phoenix block terminal connector for connecting an RS-232 control
device (PC) or a device to be controlled by RS-232 commands.
5. IR IN: 3.5mm jack for connecting an IR receiver (not included).
6. IR OUT: 3.5mm jack for connecting an IR emitter (not included).

1. Ensure that all equipment to be connected is powered off and unplugged from its
power source.
2. Place or mount the transmitter and receiver in their intended locations.
3. Using a High Speed HDMI® Cable (not included), plug one end into the HDMI input
on your display, then plug the other end into the HDMI OUT port on the receiver.
4. Using a Cat6 Ethernet cable of the appropriate length, plug one end into the HDBT
IN jack on the receiver, then plug the other end into the HDBT OUT jack on the
transmitter. Note that if this cable must be rated for in-wall use if it will be run
through the walls.
5. Using a High Speed HDMI Cable (not included), plug one end into the HDMI IN port
on the transmitter, then plug the other end into the HDMI output on your video
source device.
6. (Optional) If you want to control the video source device from the remote location,
plug an IR receiver (not included) into the IR IN jack on the receiver and position it
where it can receive IR signals from the remote control, then plug an IR emitter (not

included) into the IR OUT jack on the transmitter and position it where it can
transmit IR signals to the video source device.
7. (Optional) If you want to control the display from the source location, plug an IR
receiver (not included) into the IR IN jack on the transmitter and position it where it
can receive IR signals from the remote control, then plug an IR emitter (not
included) into the IR OUT jack on the receiver and position it where it can transmit
IR signals to the display.
8. (Optional) If you want to control a remote RS-232 controlled device, plug the
included RS-232 cable into the Tx/Rx Phoenix connector on either the transmitter or
receiver, then plug the other end into the RS-232 connector on your PC. Next, plug a
second RS-232 cable (not included) into the Tx/Rx Phoenix connector on either the
transmitter or receiver, then plug the other end into the RS-232 connector on the
device you want to control.
9. Plug the DC barrel connector on the included AC power adapter into the DC 12V
jack o either the transmitter or receiver, then plug the other end into a nearby AC
power outlet. The POWER LEDs on both the transmitter and receiver should
illuminate red, indicating that power has been applied.
10. 10 Plug in and power on all connected equipment. Start playback on your video
source device and verify that video can be seen on the display. If you are using the
IR extension feature, verify that the appropriate devices can be controlled from the
remote location.
