detergents. For stubborn deposits, moisten the cloth with warm water.
This device has no user serviceable parts. Do not attempt to open, service, or

INTRODUCTION
This Blackbird™ HDBaseT™ Extender Kit allows you to distribute a 1080p@60Hz HDMI®
signal to distances up to 492 feet (150 meters) over a single Cat6 Ethernet cable. It supports
bi-directional IR and RS-232 pass-through extension, allowing for control of local video
source device or the remote display. It supports bi-directional 12V Power over Cable (PoC),
simplifying the wiring and allowing for the use of only a single AC power adapter.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Transmitter
1. POWER LED: The LED illuminates when power is applied.
2. RS-232: 3-pin Euroblock connector for connecting an RS-232 device.
3. HDMI IN: HDMI® connector for connecting the video source device.
4. CTRL/UPDATE: Slider switch for determining the behavior of the RS-232 connection.
When in the CTRL position, RS-232 signals are passed back and forth between the
transmitter and the receiver. When in the UPDATE position, you can perform a
firmware update of the Valens IC program through the RS-232 connection.

5. HDBT OUT: RJ45 connector for a Cat6 Ethernet cable to connect the transmitter and
the receiver. The LINK LED illuminates when there is a valid HDBaseT™ link between
the transmitter and the receiver. The HDCP LED illuminates when the video contains
HDCP content.
6. IR IN: 3.5mm jack for connecting an IR receiver (not included).
7. IR OUT: 3.5mm jack for connecting an IR transmitter (not included).
8. DC 12V: DC barrel connector for connecting the included AC power adapter.
Receiver

SAMPLE CONNECTION DIAGRAM
INSTALLATION
1. Ensure that all equipment to be connected is powered off and unplugged from its
power source.
2. Place or mount the transmitter and receiver in their intended locations.
3. Using a High Speed HDMI® Cable (not included), plug one end into the HDMI input
on your display or projector, then plug the other end into the HDMI OUT connector
on the receiver.
4. (Optional) Plug an IR receiver (not included) into the IR IN jack on the transmitter,
the receiver, or both.
5. (Optional) Plug an IR transmitter (not included) into the IR OUT jack on the
transmitter, the receiver, or both.
6. Plug a Cat6 Ethernet cable (not included) into the HDBT IN jack on the receiver, then
plug the other end into the HDBT OUT jack on the transmitter.

7. Using a High Speed HDMI Cable (not included), plug one end into the HDMI IN
connector on the transmitter, then plug the other end into the HDMI output on
your video source device.
8. Plug the DC barrel connector on the included AC power adapter into the DC 12V
jack on either the transmitter or the receiver, then plug the other end into a nearby
AC power adapter. The POWER LED on both the transmitter and receiver should
illuminate, indicating that power has been applied.
9. Plug in and power on all connected equipment. Start video playback on your video
source device and verify that you can see the video on the remote display. If you
are using the IR extension feature, verify that you can control the appropriate
devices with their remote controls.
